  • Patent number: 6148480
Abstract: A hinge construction for a two part folding mobile phone body has a spindle provided at one end with a torsion spring for applying torque in a closing direction to the two parts of the phone body. A first cam member is mounted on the spindle for movement axially thereof and has a portion engaged with one part of the phone body to prevent reciprocal rotation therebetween. A second cam member is attached to the other part of the phone body. A helical compression spring surrounding the spindle urges the first cam member into engagement with the second cam member. Push-button is disposed at the opposite end of the spindle for applying axial thrust to the first cam member to release the first cam member from the second cam member and allow opening movement of the body parts out of the closed position.

  • Patent number: 5890263
Abstract: A split lockable hinge for a baby bed containing a first hinge wing, a second hinge wing and a lock. An outer and inner legs respectively extend downward from the first and second hinge wings. The lock comprises a plurality of receiving holes on the first hinge wing, a plurality of hooking slots on the second hinge wing which can engage the engaging pin which can be inserted through the receiving holes and the hooking slots, and a plurality of elastic members. The first hinge wing is locked to the second hinge wing by the engagement of the engaging pin to the hooking slots of the second hinge wing by the elastic force of the elastic members. The operation of the split lockable hinge is easier and more stable. The structure of it is easily made. It is easier to arrange the cloth of the baby bed and the volume of the collapsed bed is reduced after collapsing because the rod members can rotate about their long axes. With the split lockable hinge, the jumping dismantling action will not occur.

No. 5,381,570 for foldable tubular playpen frames having a step in the tooth of a recessed sprocket portion in which a connecting gear rests. In order to unlock the joint one must move the gear axially inwardly with a pushbutton as well as relieve the stresses on the joint by lifting up the tubular bars connected to the joint so that the gear may slip off the step. In this way an additional factor of safety is built-in in order to unlock the joint, and accidental release is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5408726
Abstract: A locking device for pivotally interconnecting a closure to a support and locking the closure in an open position relative to the support. The interlocking device interconnects the closure and support about a vertical axis, so that the closure can pivot about this axis and open and close relative to the support. The interlocking mechanism includes a locking mechanism having two engageable locking ratchet members. One ratchet member is fixedly coupled to the closure, and the second ratchet member is coupled to the support for movement along the vertical axis. The locking mechanism also has a spring which biases the ratchet members together into engagement with each other. Both ratchet members have compatible teeth with a ramping surface and a stopping surface for limiting the pivotal movement of the closure to a first direction and locking the closure in an open position. The releasing mechanism disengages the ratchet members, which allows the closure to be closed.

  • Patent number: 5399149
Abstract: A knee hinge with selectively limited motion which optionally limits an available flexion range of a user's knee to approximately 24 degrees so that a user will not fall should the user buckle at the knees. The hinge may be released to provide for a greater range of knee flexion which will allow a user to sit down in a conventional manner. The approximately 24 degree limit of the flexion range is automatically re-engaged when the user's knee is straightened. The hinge provides a spring mechanism for assisting weak knee muscles. The hinge also allows a small degree of knee hyperextension for the purpose of allowing the user to assume and maintain a safe standing position.

Abstract: A bracket hinge and bracket members (10, 10') with a spring biased and movable locking member (30). The locking or latch member (30) has ear parts (38, 39) received in locking openings (25, 25') where wedging surfaces (40, 41) on the ear parts cooperate with complimentary surfaces (42, 42') on the bracket members for bringing the bracket members into a tight end-to-end alignment when the bracket members are in an extended position. When the locking member (30) is moved to an unlocking position, pivoting of the hinge about a pivot pin (32) automatically places locking pins (70, 71) in a circular shaped groove (55) on the locking member (30) to retain the locking member (30) in an unlocked position. In pivoting the hinge from an extended position to a folded position, longitudinal spring members (80, 81) are placed under tension over annular rollers (60, 61) so that the spring tension in a folded position assists in return of the hinge from a folded position to an extended position.
