  • Patent number: 4765004
Abstract: A collapsible infant's crib is provided with hinged sides which fold inwardly. The side hinges are constructed to be slightly non-linear when in the open position, to provide an inward bias which prevents undue flexing of the joint when the crib is in use. The crib is held in open position by a tightly fitting bottom which opposes the inward bias of the sides and holds them straight. The sides are attached to the end of the crib by means of brackets of unequal length such that the crib folds down very compactly.

  • Patent number: 4730364
Abstract: A combined flush hinge and hold-open is described for hinging a panel flush with respect to a surface, such as may be used for hinging a liquid crystal display to a portable computer. The panel is connected to the surface through a pair of hinges, which are mounted on spring-activated follower parts which lie flush with the surface when the panel is closed. Upon rotation of the panel from the closed position, a cam surface on the panel, shaped in the form of an outward spiral, cooperates with an involute surface within the recess to displace the hinge outwardly, which permits the panel to rotate past the upper edge of the recess to opening angles greater than 90 degrees relative to the closed position, including up to 180 degrees.

  • Patent number: 4653951
Abstract: A hinged butt joint for connecting struts to multijoint fittings used in space structures is disclosed as two end fittings pivoted together, one of which is bifurcated and the other having a cammed butt end extending between the bifurcation with a pivot pin through aligned openings so that the fittings are rotatable to a desired angular position. Nominal manufacturing tolerances are used throughout. A wedge is forcibly fitted into the base of the bifurcation when the fittings are colinear, and bonded to the base in that position during manufacture or assembly, to preclude freeplay in the joint under alternating compression and tension leads and to create a solid mechanical path though which load is transmitted and heat and electricity conducted.

  • Patent number: 4631778
Abstract: A door and hinge mechanism particularly adapted for use in a conical hopper where the door may be on the down side of the hopper. The hinge pin connecting the fixed hinge element with the movable hinge element is placed under tension by springs such as Belville washers so that the hinge pin is not freely rotatably in the fixed hinged element. The movable hinge element includes a cam member which rotates about an off-set axis until the cam surface engages the hinge pin to prohibit further free rotation of the movable hinge. A force must then be applied to the door supplementing gravity to rotate the movable hinge element and hinge pin relative to the fixed hinge element to thereby open the door.

  • Patent number: 4628568
Abstract: A vehicle door hold open mechanism of the friction type may be assembled to the vehicle prior to the vehicle being subjected to an electrostatic priming process without coating the critical metal surfaces with primer. An arm member secured to the door includes non-conductive frictional material molded in a two sided arc. A pair of metal blocks engagable with the frictional material to create a frictional force are insulated from the vehicle body by elastomer blocks. When the door is opened, the frictional material slides between the metal blocks, compressing them to create a frictional hold open force. Neither the metal blocks, nor the frictional material, will receive a coating of primer during the priming process, as they will be insulated from the electrostatic charge received by the vehicle door and body.

  • Patent number: 4615464
Abstract: A container case includes a cover, a base and a hinge which pivotally joins the cover and the base on a corresponding side of each. The cover, base and hinge are formed by blow molding. The cover and base are double-walled in construction and identical so that they can be formed from the same mold. Each of the cover and base includes cylindrically-shaped, hollow extensions which form portions of the hinge. When the case is assembled, alternate hinge portions of the cover and base are aligned end-to-end along a common axis and cooperatingly mate to form the full hinge. The hinge is drilled to form openings in the end surfaces of the mating hinge portions which communicate with the interior, hollow areas of the hinge portions to form a single bore through the entire axial length of the hinge. A polyethylene pin is received by the hinge bore to interlock the individual hinge portions.

  • Patent number: 4507820
Abstract: A concealable handle for carrying an article having one or two elonated channels with a U-shaped cross-section. The handle works in combination with the channels, the handle comprising two elongated straps proportioned to fit inside the channels, one inside each channel. Each strap has a pivot at one end and an attachment at the opposite end. The pivot is too wide to slide out of the channel and is proportioned with longitudinal dimension about equal to the distance between the bottom of the channel and the lips. The latitudinal dimension, perpendicular to the longitudinal dimension, is shorter than the longitudinal dimension and the intersection of the edges is rounded. The dimensions of the pivot allow sliding of the strap means along the length in the channel and free rotation of the strap out of the channel to the perpendicular position. At the perpendicular, the pivot is restricted from further rotational movement. Further, at this position, movement of the pivot along the channel is restricted.

  • Patent number: 4332056
Abstract: The free end of an arm rotatable with one hinge member contains a roller receiving cavity which opens to an arcuate friction layer on the other hinge member which is disposed about the axis of relative rotation of the hinge members. A spring biased double faced wedging member is movable into and out of the center of the cavity and each face of the member is respective to a semi-cylindrical roller retention surface of the cavity. One face is more steeply sloped than the other.
