Abstract: A hinge mechanism is described wherein a multi-part device (e.g., dual-display device) can move to a snap-open position. In the snap-open position, the parts lock into place when they approach 180 degrees of rotation relative to one another. The locking force in the open position is sufficient that holding or using the multi-part device does not cause an accidental closing action. An unlocking force is required to unlock the device from the open position. Additionally, the locking force drops off precipitously when the two parts are unlocked and rotating away from the locked position.

  • Patent number: 9777789
Abstract: A device for damping the movement of a movably mounted component comprises a braking device which has a driven damper surface that cooperates with a secured damper surface to enclose a gap in which a viscous damping medium is present that causes a braking force of the braking device when the driven damper surface is rotated with respect to the secured damper surface, the braking force depending on the rotational speed of the driven damper surface. The device also has an additional braking device and a coupling. In the closed state of the coupling, at least one additional damper surface of the additional braking device driven by the movement of the component about an axis of the auxiliary braking device is rotated relative to at least one secured additional damper surface about the axis of the additional braking device, the additional braking device exerting an additional braking force. In one embodiment, a door assembly includes a door, an elongated door track, and a brush proximate the door track. The door includes a guide member extending outwardly from a side edge portion of the door. The brush is positioned such that moving the door between open and closed positions causes the guide member to deflect a resilient portion (e.g., a plurality of bristles, a plurality of flaps, or a blade) of the brush at regions of the resilient portion consecutively positioned along the length of the brush. The brush can be positioned away from the door when the door is in the closed position and in contact with a portion of the door when the door is in the open position.

The finger guard device includes a wedge and a protuberance from the wedge that is shaped and sized to hook over a hinge of the door. The finger guard device is placed to straddle a hinge so that the wedge extends down one side of a hinge and the protuberance hooks over the other side of the hinge. When the finger guard is so placed, the door can not be completely closed and a gap remains between the door and the doorjamb. This gap prevents injury caused by fingers being pinched in doorjambs.
