  • Patent number: 6655439
Abstract: The present invention provides a scalable, preformed, mold covered with fabric to form a window treatment. The fabric is cut to fit the mold and adhered to its contours in order to obtain the shape of the desired window treatment. The fabric can also have alignment tabs in order to make attachment to the mold easier. One or more rod hooks can be adhered to the fabric covering the mold or integrated into the mold. The rod hook attaches the window treatment to any standard curtain rod. Optional side extensions allow the creation of fuller pieces. The mold is designed to look attractive on the underside as well as the top side (front-back).

  • Patent number: 6630222
Abstract: An acoustic medium for temporary acoustic treatment of a room is formed from one or more continuous curtains, preferably, with pleated first and second major surfaces. Each pleated curtain preferably has one or more series of collapsible elongated tubular sections which form the pleats that make up the major surfaces of the curtain. Since the elongated tubular sections are collapsible, the curtain can be retracted by collapsing the elongated tubular sections and extended by opening the elongated tubular sections. The mat materials forming the elongated tubular sections and the pleated major surfaces of the curtain provide the curtain with an airflow resistance through the curtain, in a direction generally perpendicular to the planes containing the apexes of the pleats forming the first and second major surfaces of the curtain, that has the desired properties for absorbing or reflecting sound.

Abstract: A mass marketable decorative window treatment system employs adjustable-width and adjustable-length valance pieces that can be hung from a conventional curtain rod on which a rod sleeve has been mounted. Hook and loop fastener means are employed on both the valance pieces and on a curtain rod subassembly so that the decorative window treatment components need not be permanently secured to a board as required with similar custom window treatments The width and length of individual valance pieces, such as swags and balloons, can be adjusted so that the standard size components can be used for different size windows. Individual window treatment components can be mounted side by side or in overlapping relationship. A protective flap is provided so that exposed hook fasteners will not damage the fabric during cleaning.

Abstract: An improved method for draping curtains which allows one person to form a decorative window treatment known as a bishop tail without requiring any specialized skills or training. The method described hereinafter allows a fabric scarf to be draped from a rod of conventional configuration in a decorative manner about a window opening. The method uses hook and loop type fasteners means to secure the fabric scarf to the rod and thereby prevent the fabric scarf from sagging at the top. Curtain rings are placed over the ends of the depending fabric scarf and then installed on the rod near its ends to allow a portion of the fabric scarf to form a decorative downwardly curved arc of fabric. The newly formed arc is then "dressed" or folded into pleats in accordance with the teaching of U.S. Pat. No. 5,146,972 to William L. Tacchella. • Patent number: 5123475
Abstract: Disclosed is a shirr-pleated drape and the method of manufacturing the drape. An elongated stiffened fabric strip, preferably crinoline which may be precut to size, is formed with evenly-spaced drapery hook pockets. The drape is provided with a longitudinal rod pocket along the top of a size to accommodate said fabric strip. The drape is gathered on said fabric strip and then attached to said fabric strip at said drapery hook pockets and at the ends of said rod pocket to retain said gathered drape on said fabric strip. When mounted on a rod such as a traverse rod, said drape has the appearance of being shirred when closed, and of being shirred and pleated when open.

  • Patent number: 5105749
Abstract: A drape with multiple horizontal superimposed box tucks (FIG. 1-78) secured by stitching is composed of one continuous piece of fabric (80) containing top (20a-20b to 24) and bottom (22a-22b to 24) rod pocket extensions, and multiple box tucks pockets (33, 35, 37). Top and bottom rod pocket extensions are joined by stitching (46) to form a rod pocket (70) which is subsequently gathered over a rod (75). The construction of the pocket (70) is such that multiple box tuck (78) projects off a center front location on the rod pocket (70). Upon gathering of the rod pocket (70) over the rod (75), multiple box tucks 78 produce the desired ruffle effect (FIG. 1).

  • Patent number: 5078199
Abstract: A drapery holder for securing to a wall surface for retaining drapery material adjacent to a window or wall opening includes a wall engaging member disposed in a first plane. A first leg has a first end disposed adjacent to the wall engaging member and a second end extends from the first end and projects outwardly in a second plane substantially orthogonally to the wall engaging member. A curved member is disposed adjacent to the second end of the first leg. The curved member projects from the second plane in a path curving in a reverse direction back towards the wall engaging member. The second leg includes a first end disposed adjacent to the curved member and a second end projecting rearwardly towards the wall engaging member. The second leg is disposed in a third plane substantially orthogonally disposed relative to the wall engaging member and is substantially in parallel with the second plane.

  • Patent number: 5072767
Abstract: A goods-handling door comprises a raisable curtain 1 which folds concertina-like and which is stiffened by reinforcing bars 2 having rings 4 through which lifting straps 3 are passed, which straps are wound onto a top shaft 5. During lifting and while the curtain is folding, it is desirable for the curtain to fold regularly and in a preferred direction. Flexible and inextensible elements 11 are placed between adjacent bars in order to limit the spacing between the bars, and they are given a structure which facilitates folding in the desired direction.

  • Patent number: 5018567
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and kit for forming a decorative shape with the portion of a curtain material that extends down along the side of a window. The decorative shape, known as the tie-back pouf, is formed by first mounting a C-shaped holder to opposing sides of a wall. A portion of the curtain material that extends down along the window is plaited to form a bar-like bundle and is pulled forward through the prongs of the holder from the wall area. The forwardly pulled portion of the curtain material is then pulled around the sides of the holder to form the tie-back pouf.

  • Patent number: 5012851
Abstract: The invention relates to a holder for draping curtains and for fastening to a wall. The draping of relatively large amounts of curtain material for decorating door or window openings requires much experience. A visually attractive hang of the folds is particularly difficult. To simplify the draping procedure, a holder is provided with at least two recesses in the form of two U sections in each of which parts of the curtain material can be laid.

Abstract: A bendable sheet of material includes a column of apertures and at least one loop interleaved therewith disposed along each opposed vertical side and support structure for suspending the sheet from its upper edge. A pair of clips, secured to the lower edge of the sheet, penetrably cooperate with the columns of apertures to selectively retain the sheet foldable upon itself to a predetermined degree. The pair of clips are adapted to penetrably engage the loops to retain a further fold of the folded part of the sheet to selectively further reduce the area defined by the suspended sheet.

  • Patent number: 4907635
Abstract: In a liftable window drape (10), such as a window shade with straight pleats or a curtain with rounded pleats, a fabric web (11) is employed which, on its rear side, has several parallel, vertical rows (16,17) of loops with guide elements. The latter can be produced by a folding band affixed to the rear side of the fabric web (11). The drawstring (21) is secured at the lower marginal region of the fabric web (11) and extends to a carrier (29) secured in the upper marginal region of the fabric web (11). In order to assure a satisfactory appearance of the window drape (10) and to easily adjust this to changing window heights, it is proposed to let the loops in the rows extend horizontally and to form each loop from a bundle of weft threads (24) which float over the fabric web (11) or over the folding band.
