  • Patent number: 4078617
Abstract: A portable drill rig having an inclined ramp is transportable in discrete sections with each section of the inclined ramp forming a separate truckbed chassis. In erection the front portion of the ramp is swung upwardly with on-site lifting apparatus. Support legs are pendulously swung down and landed on portable landing pads to support the medial section of the front ramp in an angular inclined position. The rear ramp section is lifted at the medial rig section and its large supporting legs allowed to pendulously swing on the ground towards their eventual position. A pin registry is made between the two ramp sections so that the partially erected ramp appears not unlike an apex of a roof. The rear portion of the ramp is then erected to its full angularly inclined position and pinned. Provision is made to utilize a traveling car mounted for movement on the ramp sections for the erection of the ramp legs on both ramp sections.

  • Patent number: 4072354
Abstract: Apparatus including a downwardly-extending breaker bar connected for vertical movement by linkage to a base adapted to be mounted on a suitable traction unit. A hydraulic cylinder unit extends between the base and the breaker bar, and operating means is associated with the cylinder unit for selectively supplying fluid to said unit alternatively to raise and lower the breaker bar to cause it to strike a surface to be broken, such as the crust that forms on aluminum smelt in pots during the electrolytic production of aluminum.

  • Patent number: 4050526
Abstract: A portable hydraulic actuated machine for driving posts, ground anchors, concrete breakers, core drills and the like work pieces into the ground, pavements, or wall structures, maintains a continuing thrust on the work piece amplified by sequential hammer blows of controlled magnitude to advance the work piece at a rapid rate without damage to the impact receiving end of the work piece. The machine includes an automotive vehicle which is easily transported to the work site and which carries a turntable supporting an upstanding tower on which rides a carriage slidably mounting a spring loaded heavy hammer, a work piece engaging spring loaded anvil struck by the hammer and hydraulical hammer lifting mechanism. The tower is easily raised and lowered, adjusted toward and away from the vehicle and tiltable laterally to present the hammer and anvil to the work piece at the exact desired location in the plane of the work piece.

  • Patent number: 4027441
Abstract: An arrangement for erecting and dismounting an elongate object having one end articulated to a foundation is used, e.g. for erecting power transmission line supports into vertical or substantially vertical position. The arrangement comprises a chassis which is stationary during the installation of an object, a boom having one end thereof articulated to the chassis and a load gripping member mounted for displacement towards the distal end of the boom. In addition, the arrangement is provided, at the distal end of the boom, with an additional boom support articulated thereto which is disposed on the ground during the installation of an object. This additional boom support enables a considerable reduction of power input of means effecting the displacement of the load gripping member carrying the object due to a re-distribution of forces developed during the installation of the object.

  • Patent number: 4020909
Abstract: Earth drilling apparatus comprising an extensible mast constituted by a fixed lower ramp and an upper slide mounted with capability of longitudinal sliding on the fixed ramp. A rotation head for driving a drill string is movable on and guided over the length of the slide and the movements of extension and retraction of the slide are synchronized with ascending and descending displacements respectively of the rotation head. For this purpose two double-acting jacks connect the lower portion of the fixed ramp to the upper portion of the movable slide and each of a first pair of chains is wound on one pulley mounted on the upper extremity of each of the posts of the movable slide and is fixed at one of its extremities to the rotation head and at the other of its extremities to a cross-brace rigidly connecting the upper extremity of the posts of the fixed ramp.

  • Patent number: 3958646
Abstract: A penetrometer frame for mounting on, for example, a truck and comprising a fixed part provided with slides which guide a moving part in the form of a frame which itself serves as a guide for a driving hammer and which may be raised or lowered by two hydraulic rams. The fixed part of the frame is pivoted on a platform about a horizontal pivot offset from the point where tubes are inserted or removed. The arrangement is such that extending the rams causes the penetrometer frame to pivot and allows access to the position at which tubes are inserted or removed.

  • Patent number: 3957124
Abstract: A truck provided with drill units to drill the end wall of a tunnel under excavation, this truck being characterized by having a support for the drill units, which is pivoted about a transverse axis relative to the vehicle body to provide adjustment of the inclination of the support in relation to the inclination of the end wall to be drilled, to allow adjustment of the overall height of the truck for tunnels of different heights, and to provide a better load distribution to allow faster travel. This support is pivotally connected to provide automatic and constant aiming of the drill units in parallel rearwardly pointing relationship.

  • Patent number: 3951216
Abstract: Feed frame assembly for supporting and feeding drill head which rotates drill rod about axis. Assembly includes spaced front and rear end members, laterally spaced longitudinal members and first and second hydraulic feed cylinders. Longitudinal members and feed cylinders extend between end members and are parallel to rod axis. Piston rods of feed cylinders have double-acting pistons cooperating with cylinder bodies to feed head along the piston rods. Stabilizer cylinders in longitudinal members force bearing pads against rock face to counteract the drilling forces. Head mounting means secures rigidly one side of drill head to first cylinder body, and secures releasably with latch opposite side of head to second cylinder body. When latch is released drill head can swing outwards about first piston rod, and when engaged mutual actuation of feed cylinders moves drill head along rods. With head swung out, first cylinder is hydraulically locked to divert fluid to second cylinder.
