  • Patent number: 5634533
Abstract: An intermittent impulse-type anti-lock braking device for bicycles and motorcycles, whose principal function is to prevent the front or the rear wheel from locking up when the rider actuates the brake lever. Said impulse-type intermittent device is made up of an eccentric wheel placed into motion by contact with the wheel of the vehicle. The eccentric wheel, connected to a lever, which has its fulcrum in, transmits the necessary alternating motion to the brake pad. In this manner, the pad is pressed against the rim of the wheel with an intermittent action instead of the continuous pressure that is provided by the braking systems which are currently on the market.

  • Patent number: 4667779
Abstract: This invention relates to a unidirectional high gain brake arrangement that includes in combination a shaft mounted for rotation within a housing. The shaft is rotatable in either direction. A brake is selectively releasably coupled to the housing and to the shaft. The brake has a first member. An intermittent motion device is respectively coupled through the first member to the housing and through a one-way clutch to the shaft. The brake also has a second member that is mechanically coupled to the first brake member and to the housing. The intermittent motion device causes the brake to be activated by movement imparted to the first brake member after a preset number of revolutions of the shaft in one direction. The brake is released by rotation of the shaft in an opposite direction whereby torque transmitted through the one-way clutch to the first brake member is removed.

  • Patent number: 4257497
Abstract: A vehicle braking system including a wheel hub, a hub member separate from the wheel hub, a torsional coupling device and a magnetically actuable brake spring. In a preferred embodiment, the hub member is connected to the vehicle suspension by the torsional coupling device and, upon actuating, the brake spring wraps around the wheel hub to cause the hub member and the wheel hub to be nonrotatably joined together. In another embodiment, the wheel hub is torsionally connected to the hub member and actuation of the brake spring causes the hub member to be nonrotatably joined to the vehicle suspension. The movements of the wheel hub relative to the vehicle suspension permitted by the torsional coupling are monitored by an electronic control circuit that guards against wheel lockup or skid conditions. The electronic control circuit intermittently triggers the brake spring between brake release and approaching wheel lockup so as to incorporate anti-skid performance with the brake function.

  • Patent number: 4156803
Abstract: An operating device for an electric circuit breaker includes a closing spring and a rotatable spring-controller mounted for rotation between first and second dead center positions with respect to the spring. The spring is charged by transmitting rotational forces to the spring-controller. One end of a connecting link is pivotally connected to a point on the spring-controller which is eccentric with respect to the center of rotation of the spring-controller. Another end of the connecting link is connected to an operating mechanism of the circuit breaker. Circuit breaker closing is effected by allowing the spring to quickly discharge after a charging operation. Damping means is provided for imposing a damping load on the spring-controller substantially only after it has performed its useful work and is undergoing subsequent oscillations. The damping means causes the duration of the oscillations to be substantially reduced so that the spring-controller is rapidly brought to rest.
