Patent number: 4711452Abstract: A slot machine having multiple spinning reels coaxially mounted in a frame for relative rotation. All machine movements are electrically activated by pulling a starting handle. The handle operates an electric switch which, in turn, initiates sequencing of the machine by a processor. The reel and sprocket are mounted so that relative rotational movements between them in a first rotational direction are prevented when the two are in a predetermined angular orientation. However, relative rotational movement between the reel and sprocket is permitted over a limited arc in the opposite rotational direction. A spring interposed between them permits a slight overtravel of the reel beyond the arrest position of the sprocket, and thereafter returns it to its normal position relative to the sprocket. To prevent undesirable oscillations, a friction clutch is interposed between the reel and the sprocket.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1986Date of Patent: December 8, 1987Assignee: International Game Technology (IGT)Inventors: Peter D. The rotor discs have a plurality of circumferentially spaced slots along their inner periphery. The slots opposite side walls are beveled and are complimentarily engaged by the beveled legs of a U-shaped insert. The inserts transfer the load and stresses to the full beveled faces of the slots while held in place by overlying clips which are fastened to the discs.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 1983Date of Patent: August 14, 1984Assignee: The B. F. Goodrich CompanyInventor: Lowell D. Bok

Patent number: 4463933Abstract: There is disclosed a clutch/brake mechanism of the "disc" type wherein the coacting friction producing members are severally configured of frusto-conical and planar form whereby sealing contact is maintained at the peripheral surfaces thereof when in a brake-released condition to thereby prevent entrance of external contaminants into the brake-clutch mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 1982Date of Patent: August 7, 1984Assignee: Columbus McKinnon CorporationInventors: Kenneth D. Patent number: 4450947Abstract: A combination friction ring and mount therefor for clutches, brakes and the like is shown according to the teachings of the present invention as including a circular friction disc member having a substantially flat face. The face has a shoulder thereon at the outer periphery thereof and a substantially flat ring friction lining secured upon the flat face of the circular member and the shoulder.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1981Date of Patent: May 29, 1984Assignee: Horton Manufacturing, Co.Inventor: James V. Patent number: 4449621Abstract: A segmented annular clutch plate for use in any conventional clutch plate chanism. The segments are of equal arcuate dimension so that they are interchangeable. Each segment possesses the same annular uniformily serrated surface. Each segment may be provided with a key-slot mating connection to restrict the radial movement of the clutch plate while in operation. The clutch plates are designed and oriented so that in the clutch assembly the plates in one set of plates have different numbers of segments than the plates in the other set of plates, whereby adjoining plates can have only two segment joints in axial alignment at any one instant.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1981Date of Patent: May 22, 1984Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventor: Erwin F'Geppert

Patent number: 4396100Abstract: A friction lining for a multiple disk clutch or a multiple disk brake, with grooves extending in a direction from a radially inner lining edge to a radially outer lining edge. Individual ones of these grooves exhibit pronounced rectangular or orthogonal transistion areas between the groove and a surface of the friction lining with the remaining grooves exhibiting non-rectangular transistion areas of the groove edges to the friction surface of the friction lining. A plurality of grooves provided non-rectangular transistional areas extend linearly and are not connected to the grooves having the rectangular transistional areas. At least one groove having a rectangular transistional area and being open at least toward the outer lining edge is disposed between two circumferentially adjacent or neighboring grooves having a non-rectangular transistional area.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1980Date of Patent: August 2, 1983Assignee: Daimler-Benz AktiengesellschaftInventor: Georg Eltze

Patent number: 4385429Abstract: A clutch is disclosed having an input shaft and an output shaft and having alternate pairs of discs interfitting with each other. Half of the discs being attached to the input shaft and half to the output shaft. The discs are knurled on one side in a grooved pattern. The knurling is deeper at the inner radius than at the outer radius so that there is a major restriction to oil flow from the inner radius to the outer radius. The restriction of the grooves insures that the grooves are completely filled with oil during operation of the clutch.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1981Date of Patent: May 31, 1983Assignee: Dynetics, Inc.Inventor: John H. Crankshaw

Patent number: 4350231Abstract: A friction pad configuration and a method and apparatus for fastening said pads to a disk core member wherein the base of the pad is formed with a plurality of extended tabs that are inserted in slots in the core and secured to the tabs of a pad on the opposite surface of the core by a clip that draws the base-to-base mounted pads together on the core. Alternatively, and for mounting on a single face surface of the core, U-clips are mounted on the tabs and inserted through the core to the opposite surface thereof and the ends of the U-clips are bent down into annular grooves in the face surface of the core to securely mount the pads to the core.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1980Date of Patent: September 21, 1982Assignee: Goodyear Aerospace CorporationInventors: Richard L.
