The apparatus includes an enclosure which in its normal transport mode has the appearance of an attache case. The utilitarian object is concealed within the attache case until the deployment mechanism is actuated causing the attache case to fall away from the utilitarian object readying it for use. A novel safing mechanism is provided within the handle of the attache case to positively prevent accidental actuation of the deployment mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5149203
Abstract: A bag or similar portable container having a wall or walls surrounding an internal space accessible through an opening (4) in the bag, the wall or walls incorporating or being lined with one or more layers (6) of high tensile strength and high stretch resistance material such as to be capable of resisting penetration by a bullet. Preferably, a single multi-layer sheet (6) is used to form the wall or walls (9) by folding the sheet at the corners (32), thereby avoiding joins that would be vulnerable to penetration. Preferably, the penetration resistant material (6) is backed up by one or more layers (11) of an impact absorbing material, such as polycarbonate sheet material and foamed plastics material. The layers of penetration resistance material (6) and impact absorbing material (11) may be separately formed as removable inserts that are used to line the bag.

  • Patent number: 5056342
Abstract: A security box or a container assembly designed to be secured to the undersurface of a table, counter, bed frame, or like structure so as to extend beneath the undersurface in a substantially out-of-sight location and specifically adapted to hold a handgun or other applicable weapon, valuables or medication in a readily accessible location for easy removal once a cover of the container is opened. To mount the container under a bed, a mounting structure is removably attached to the bed frame so as to support the container in the preferred out-of-sight location beneath the bed in a somewhat cantilevered fashion. Mounting to other surfaces, such as under a table or counter top can be achieved by securing the top of the container to the mounting surface in such a manner as to be out of the general line of sight.
