  • Patent number: 5225165
Abstract: A microcentrifuge tube or other thermoplastic sample container having a round opening and a frictionally seated sealing lid, the lid having a size and shape to cover the perimeter of the tube opening and maintain the inside of the tube free of any contaminant. The lid viewed on an upright closed container has a downwardly extending annular portion shaped to sealing fit inside the opening, the lid further having an integral upwardly projecting lid extension configured and arranged on top of the lid to facilitate aseptic opening, grasping and identification-labeling of the container. The location, angle and size of the lid extension allow mechanical pressure to be used on top of the lid, rather than beneath the lid, to open the container. The improved apparatus and method for opening the container functions to prevent sample contamination which could otherwise occur when a fingernail or other container opening instrument is inserted beneath, and contacts some portion(s) of the underside of the lid.

  • Patent number: 4688716
Abstract: The present invention briefly relates to a package box (11) for the liquid tight sealing of the contents, preferably a liquid, which box (11) is folded from a cardboard blank, the side of which facing inwardly in the package box (11) is coated with a thin layer of plastic. The closing flaps (12a, 13, 14, 15) extend each from its corresponding wall of the box (11) and are delimited from respective wall by a folding line (17). The longitudinal corner (19) of the box (11) between box bottom and lid is defined by two parallel folding lines (24, 25) and the recesses separating the flaps (12a, 13, 14, 15) terminate at a distance from the folding lines (17) of the flaps (12a, 13, 14, 15). The recesses preferably terminate in a section, the flange (23) of which is parallel to the folding lines (17) of the flaps (12a, 13, 14, 15) the length of such flange portion corresponding essentially to the distance between two parallel corner lines (24, 25).

  • Patent number: 4487359
Abstract: An aid for opening and reopening of rectangular, frozen dessert boxes. The aid is a cut tab which is located in the outer edge portion of the innermost lid of the box. The cut tab includes a curved cut and a scoreline. The curved cut has a circumference of approximately 2/3 of a circle and has its ends connected to the scoreline. The scoreline is inclined at a predetermined angle with the side edge of the lid. The cut tab is located a predetermined distance from a corner and has an area which provides ample finger room for a finger opening. Opening instructions are printed in cut tab area. Another cut tab may be located near the opposite corner of the lid with its scoreline similarly inclined as the other cut tab. To break the bond between the frozen dessert and the lid, one depresses the cut tab inwardly with his finger to create a finger opening and then lifts upwardly with the finger. To reopen a partially emptied box, one places a finger within the finger opening and then lifts upwardly with the finger.
