Patent number: 8889007Abstract: The present invention is a wastewater treatment system utilizing a recirculating filter system comprising sand, gravel, or synthetic media. Septic effluent is continuously, or approximately continuously, dosed under pressure to the treatment media through pressure compensating drip irrigation emitters. The system comprises a commonly known septic tank and recirculation tank. Septic tank effluent is collected in the recirculation tank, from which it is continually dosed by means of a pump to the top of the treatment media of the recirculating filter through pressure compensating drip emitters. Continuous dosing of diluted residential septic tank effluent through drip irrigation emitters provides a slow consistent application of liquid rich in organic material and pathogens over the treatment media. The treated effluent is then recirculated if water is low or went to final disposal.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2011Date of Patent: November 18, 2014Inventors: David Mark Lowe, Richard D. Eldredge

Patent number: 8603255Abstract: A dishwasher, in particular a domestic dishwasher, having at least one substantially closed water circuit in which washing liquor is recirculated in a first direction in accordance with a program control unit, with the washing liquor being conveyed through a filter element during recirculation in order to filter impurities. Provision is made of a device for reversing the direction of flow, and this allows recirculation of the washing liquor in a second direction, which runs counter to the first direction, in order to flow through and eliminate impurities from a first screen, with the first screen being arranged in the water circuit in such a way that liquid forcibly flows through the first screen during recirculation of the washing liquor both in the first and in the second direction.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2006Date of Patent: December 10, 2013Assignee: BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgeraete GmbHInventors: Egbert Classen, Helmut Jerg, Hans-Peter Nannt, Roland Rieger

Patent number: 8591739Abstract: The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for separating particles and dissolved matter from a fluid stream. Specifically, the present invention includes a first pressure source which transports untreated fluid into a separator annulus with a filter element disposed therein. The untreated fluid is placed under appropriate pressure sufficient to produce turbulent flow, increased particle kinetics and/or cavitation physics allowing the desired fluid to penetrate and pass into and through the filter media. The filtered fluid is then transported to a collection tank. The contaminant particulate matter retained on the exterior of the filter media may be removed by the instantaneous reverse pressurization of the separator annulus by a second pressure source thereby removing the contaminant particles away from contact with the filter media, and which may then be transported to a waste collection tank or a concentrator for further treatment.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2007Date of Patent: November 26, 2013Assignee: Tervita, LLCInventors: Raymond Ford Johnson, Markley Dean Johnson, Rodney Grage

Patent number: 8524075Abstract: A fluid pressure vessel has a filter cartridge with spaced headers positioning cylindrical pleated filter media. The headers form an inlet chamber communicating with the inlet upstream side of the filter media and an isolated outlet chamber communicating with the downstream side of the filter media. A hollow piston with a toothed periphery having a circumferential slot is positioned closely adjacent the upstream side of the filter media. The piston hollow communicates with a drain chamber isolated from the inlet and outlet chambers. Upon opening of the drain chamber to atmospheric pressure, the pressure in the piston hollow and slot causes a lower pressure in a localized area of the media and back flushing of trapped material on the upstream side of the media to the drain chamber. An actuator is connected to selectively progressively move the piston and slot along the entire surface of the media.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2012Date of Patent: September 3, 2013Assignee: Eaton CorporationInventor: Mark Anthony Quintel

Patent number: 8501004Abstract: Disclosed herein is a ballast water treatment device. The device includes a filtering unit filtering ballast water introduced into a ship using a filter, a vortex generating unit generating an artificial vortex in the ballast water filtered by the filtering unit, and an ultraviolet treatment unit having an ultraviolet lamp which sterilizes the ballast water discharged from the vortex generating unit using ultraviolet rays, thus preventing secondary contamination resulting from by-products, preventing a ballast tank from becoming contaminated, affording effective maintenance, and making it convenient to control. Further, an artificial vortex is formed in the ballast water when it is mixed, thus allowing a large quantity of ultraviolet rays to be radiated onto the ballast water passing through the ultraviolet treatment unit, therefore improving a sterilization effect.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 2010Date of Patent: August 6, 2013Assignee: Panasia Co., Ltd.Inventors: Soo-Tae Lee, Tae-Sung Pyo, Sang-Gyu Cheon, Hyun-O Kim, Su-Kyu Lee
