Patent number: 8695813Abstract: Methods and apparatus for desolvating flowing liquid streams while retaining temporal resolution of dissolved substrates are disclosed. A novel small-scale self-regulating spray dryer preserves temporal resolution while desolvating a liquid chromatography eluent stream and depositing the solute onto an optical surface for infrared spectrographic analysis. The liquid eluent is pumped through a heated nebulizer to create a high-speed jet of solute containing liquid and solvent vapor. This jet is directed circumferentially inside a hot cylindrical cavity. Centrifugal force causes the larger liquid droplets to travel along the outer diameter of the cavity. The cavity surface is heated to cause the droplets to film boil. Film boiling reduces droplet contact with the cavity surface thereby retaining the solute in the droplets. The solute temperature is limited by controlling the pressure into which the solvent evaporates from the droplets.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2007Date of Patent: April 15, 2014Assignee: Spectra Analysis Instruments, IncorporatedInventors: William W. The second flow path comprises a second supply unit adapted for adding an alkaline fluid to the dialysate flowing in the second flow path, and a further detoxification unit located downstream of the second supply unit. The further detoxification unit is adapted for removing toxins from the alkalized dialysate flowing in the second flow path.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 2007Date of Patent: February 19, 2013Assignee: Hepa Wash GmbHInventors: Bernhard Kreymann, Catherine Elisabeth Schreiber, Ahmed Nabeel Al-Chalabi

Publication number: 20130001176Abstract: A fluid filtration system for use with an internal combustion engine includes a fluid inlet, a fluid manifold fluidly connected to the fluid inlet, and a plurality of filter elements rotatably coupled to the fluid manifold such that an order of fluid flow through the plurality of filter elements is varied according to a position of an individual fuel filter element of the plurality of fuel filter elements with respect to the fluid manifold. The fluid filtration system may be configured such that fluid flows in series through the plurality of filter elements and the plurality of filter elements is configured to be rotated such that the order of fluid flow through the plurality of filter elements is varied such that a filter element of the plurality of filter elements which was previously a final filter element in the series becomes a first filter element in the series.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 30, 2011Publication date: January 3, 2013Applicant: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Alan W. Publication number: 20120325752Abstract: An additive cartridge for dispersing an additive within a filter housing is provided. The additive cartridge includes an additive cartridge housing having a peripheral wall, the additive cartridge housing defining first interior area and a second interior area being divided by a first wall. A first unidirectional fluid path is disposed adjacent the second end, the first fluid path defining a flow path from the second interior area. A first biasing member being made from a shape-memory alloy disposed in the second interior area adjacent the first end, the shape memory alloy moving between a first position and a second position in response to a change in temperature. A first piston member is movably disposed within the second interior area and coupled to the first biasing member, the first piston member defining a dispensing chamber within the second interior area.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 27, 2012Publication date: December 27, 2012Applicant: FRAM GROUP IP, LLCInventor: Donald William Baldwin, JR.

Patent number: 8318007Abstract: The invention relates to an ultraviolet radiation lamp. The lamp comprises a substantially sealed cavity comprising a mercury-containing material; a filament disposed in the sealed cavity; and an electrical control element in contact with the filament, the electrical control element configured to adjust or maintain a temperature of the mercury-containing material with respect to a prescribed temperature. Such a constructions allows the present ultraviolet radiation lamp to be operated at optimal efficiency without the need to use additional components to add heat to and/or remove heat from the mercury-containing material.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2006Date of Patent: November 27, 2012Assignee: Trojan TechnologiesInventors: Jim Fraser, Joseph Elku, Michael Sasges

Publication number: 20120285872Abstract: A sample manager of a liquid chromatography system implements a thermal system that uses a dual-loop feedback control system to control temperature within a thermal chamber. The sample manager includes an external heatsink disposed externally to the thermal chamber, an internal heatsink disposed within the thermal chamber, and one or more thermoelectric devices thermally coupled to the external and internal heatsinks to transfer heat therebetween in response to a pulse-width modulated power signal. A first temperature sensor disposed within the thermal chamber continuously measures a chamber temperature. A second temperature sensor coupled to the internal heatsink within the thermal chamber continuously measures temperature at the internal heatsink. A feedback control system controls a duty cycle of the pulse-width modulated power signal in response to a target chamber temperature and real-time temperature measurements produced by the first and second temperature sensors.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 11, 2011Publication date: November 15, 2012Applicant: WATERS TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATIONInventors: Joshua A.
