Abstract: The present application relates to a filtration system (1) having at least one flexible filter (9) and cleaning apparatus (25) for projecting a flow of fluid onto the at least one flexible filter. The fluid to be filtered passes through the at least cone flexible filter (9) and causes the at least one flexible filter (9) to be deflected in a first direction. The flow of fluid projected onto the at least one flexible filter (9) from the cleaning apparatus (25) causes the at least one flexible filter (9) to be deflected in a second direction. The first and second directions are substantially opposite to each other. The present invention further relates to a filtration system (1) for filtering particulates from a liquid. The filtration system has a sealed vessel (2) suitable for supporting a pressure less than atmospheric pressure. A filter (9) is provided for filtering particulates from the liquid. The application also relates to a method of filtering fluid.

  • Patent number: 7288186
Abstract: A self cleaning filtration device wherein an activation piston, laterally supported within an activation cylinder is immersed in filtrate within the confines of an immersion chamber. The immersion chamber receives filtrate from a disk filtration stack via orifices and sparger support tubes (the “Tubes”). Gas pressure (i) drives the piston, the Tubes, and the disk compression block upward and (ii) forces the immersion chamber fluid through the Tubes to separate the disks. The Tubes contain gas entrainment orifices on the side of the piston that are configured to facilitate entrainment of gas into the fluid. The entrained fluid impacts the opened disks with a high energy dispersed scouring action, to flush the disks clean.

  • Patent number: 7282188
Abstract: The invention concerns a method and an apparatus for producing a metal hydroxide, in particular magnesium hydroxide, from a salt solution, wherein the metal is firstly precipitated from the salt solution and the suspension produced in that way is then filtered. The object of the invention is to provide a method and an apparatus which permit simple inexpensive and rapid production of metal hydroxide, in particular magnesium hydroxide, in a high state of purity. According to the invention that is achieved in that the suspension is filtered through at least one filter (13-17) of a cross-flow filtration installation (13-17), and that a permeate produced by filtration of the suspension is fed to the cross-flow filtration installation (14-17) again.

  • Patent number: 7250109
Abstract: In the backflush filter (10) according to the invention, in which the flushing back of the filter inserts (15) which are received in several filter chambers takes place by means of flushing filtrate loaded by compressed air, the flush valve (35) and the mud drain valve (39) are actuated by a common drive, whereas the valves or the valve bores (45, 46) are dimensioned in such a manner that the flush valve only releases the connection to the filtrate chamber (19?) of the filter inserts (15?) to be flushed back, when the mud drain valve has already at least partially released the connection between the mud chamber (24?) of the affected filter chamber (14?) with a mud outlet (40). By this, it is ensured in a particularly simple manner that at the backflush process the pressure level in the mud chamber has already dropped before the filtrate for the backflush is loaded with compressed air (see FIG. 2).

A spray tube having a plurality of outlets that slideably engages the inlet fitting, is positioned in the ring discs of the existing filter and a compression member proximate to one end of the ring discs applies a compressive force to the ring discs. When fluid enters the spray tube from the inlet fitting compression on the ring discs is reduced to allow the ring discs to separate while fluid pressure is simultaneously imposed on the ring discs through a plurality of outlets to clean the filter component. The parts included with the system may be used to convert a manual filter into a self-cleaning filter system.

  • Patent number: 7052610
Abstract: Modules of ultrafiltration or microfiltration membranes are arranged in a tank open to the atmosphere to substantially cover the cross sectional area of the tank. A filtration cycle has permeation steps and deconcentration steps. During permeation, supply of feed substantially equals feed removed and little if any aeration is used. During deconcentration, aeration with scouring bubbles is provided with one or both of backwashing and feed flushing. In feed flushing, feed water is supplied to the tank from below the modules. Excess tank water created during deconcentration flows generally upwards through the modules and out through a retentate outlet or overflow at the top of the tank.
