    Abstract: A perforated metal center tube is provided for use within an oil, fuel, or hydraulic filter. The tube is fabricated from a perforated metallic sheet formed into a cylinder in which opposite edges thereof are mutually engaged with one another to form a longitudinal multi-layered lockseam. The lockseam is mechanically clinched to inhibit slippage of the mutually engaged edges without the need for welding, soldering or otherwise chemically or adhesively bonding the lockseam. A series of circumferential beads are provided at spaced locations along the length of the tube to provide structural reinforcement. Each bead is formed through lockseam without generating slippage or disengagement of the first and second edges relative to one another. The beads advantageously provide the tube with sufficient structural integrity to withstand typical filtration pressures, with a metallic sheet of relatively thin gauge.

The side edges are joined together by a mechanical clamp system or by a strip of polymeric material that is melted and infused into the side edges of the filter media.     Abstract: The present invention features a filtration plate for use in a filter pan comprising a corrugated sheet having a series of alternately upwardly and downwardly opening channels and a reinforcing material bonded to surfaces of the downwardly opening channels. The reinforcing material is effective for strengthening the sheet and retaining heat in a manner effective to slow cooling of the filtration plate during washing and to reduce heat losses from the filtration plate during filtering. According to a preferred aspect of the invention, the corrugated sheet is a monolithic sheet of structural metal having a smooth upper filtration surface. The invention also provides a filter pan configured for use in filtration of a filtrate from solid particles. The filter pan comprises a filtration plate including a corrugated, monolithic sheet of structural metal having a series of alternately upwardly and downwardly opening channels.

    Abstract: A method is disclosed for the manufacture of screen cylinders, e.g. for removal of debris such as sand, rock, metal, resin etc. from a liquid suspension used in the pulp and paper industry. The screen is of the type having a plurality of slot passages, each extending axially the entire axial length of the cylinder. According to the invention, the width of the slots is controlled by determining the physical structure of the screen, particularly the overall thickness of the screen and the backing reinforcement ribs, prior to the rolling of the screen plate into a cylinder. A table of a number of different sizes is included showing the practical range of application of the invention. The invention allows the use of standard cutters used in the milling of the slots for the production of screens with much narrower slots to obtain an improved degree of removal of contaminants without having to use specially thin cutters. Screens produced by the method are also claimed.

The welds each typically have a width of about 1 to 3 mm (that is they are very small), but that width is typically at least about 75% of the width of a land area in which it is formed, and the weld has a length of at least about 50% of the width of the reinforcing ring at the weld.

    Abstract: A thin metal foil disc etched on both sides in such a way as to form a crossover pattern of rectangular flow passages (or channels) spiraling out, in opposite directions, from the inner diameter to the outer diameter of the disc. In the preferred embodiment, these channels have a depth slightly greater than half of the disc thickness, creating an opening through the thickness of the disc at their points of intersection. This disc design, when stacked appropriately into a filter element, provides substantially lower flow losses than other existing designs. When used as a filter, it performs as an absolute surface filter featuring a tortuous flow path and high degree of porosity. When used as a surface tension device, it offers superior wetting and re-wetting characteristics.

    Abstract: Filter apparatus for filtering contaminants from a fluid, such as machine tool coolant, are disclosed. One filter apparatus includes a filter drum unit having a generally cylindrical open perforated support sheet with a cylindrical screen element mounted thereabout. Circumference varying mechanisms, such as turnbuckles, are connected relative to the support plate to vary the circumference of the support plate and the tautness of the screen element. A disc filter assembly having a mandrel and fluidly attached annular disc filter elements is also described. Each annular disc filter element has an inner structure with concentric ribs forming concentric grooves therebetween which are connected to radially extending grooves. A screen element is supported by the ribs so that the microscreen will not tear while allowing filtering of fluid into the grooves which are in fluid communication with the mandrel.

The first surface has an outer perimeter and an inner opening that permits the hub to extend therethrough. The second surface has an inner boundary joined to the outer perimeter of the first surface. From the inner boundary, the second surface extends outward and terminates at an edge. The second surface contains a plurality of slots arranged in a non-radial manner. The slots permit fluid to pass through the straining system, but prevent some articles from passing through the straining system and making contact with the pump.
