Perforated Or Grooved Plates Patents (Class 210/498)
  • Patent number: 5718826
Abstract: A screen cylinder, screen, method of manufacture of the screen cylinder, and method of use of the screen cylinder, allow screen capacity to be maximized without sacrificing screen cylinder strength, and while achieving a clean accepts flow. A screen cylinder is constructed in a conventional manner except that at least one reinforcing ring is permanently fastened (typically by continuous or spot laser or electric beam welding, or direct resistance welding) to at least a majority of (and typically essentially all of) the land areas which separate grooves in a row from each other, at the outlet surface of the cylinder. The welds each typically have a width of about 1 to 3 mm (that is they are very small), but that width is typically at least about 75% of the width of a land area in which it is formed, and the weld has a length of at least about 50% of the width of the reinforcing ring at the weld.

  • Patent number: 5711877
Abstract: A thin metal foil disc etched on both sides in such a way as to form a crossover pattern of rectangular flow passages (or channels) spiraling out, in opposite directions, from the inner diameter to the outer diameter of the disc. In the preferred embodiment, these channels have a depth slightly greater than half of the disc thickness, creating an opening through the thickness of the disc at their points of intersection. This disc design, when stacked appropriately into a filter element, provides substantially lower flow losses than other existing designs. When used as a filter, it performs as an absolute surface filter featuring a tortuous flow path and high degree of porosity. When used as a surface tension device, it offers superior wetting and re-wetting characteristics.

The filter is oriented generally in the direction of ink flow to provide a greater filter surface area. Abstract: In the floor of a pulp slurry inlet chamber an opening is provided. The opening is elongate and arranged substantially tangential to the outer, bounding wall of the chamber. Barriers of arcuate cross-section depend from the opening, at opposite ends of the opening. The barriers are incurvate, relative to the opening. The opening has a length across which junk cannot bridge. Consequently, the junk falls through the opening and is captured in an accumulator which underlies the opening. Knots substantially bridge across the opening, and impinge upon the arcuate barrier at the far end of the opening to be thrown upwardly for assimilation with the slurry flow coursing through the chamber. An elutriative liquid is supplied to the accumulator, at a given flow velocity, to wash up and out of the accumulator any organic particles which, due to irregularities, pass through the opening, to return the organic particles to the chamber.

Abstract: Embodiments of this invention include pressure differential barrier members for separating selected substances from fluid, gaseous and/or liquid, and methods of making same. They include separation material which, with respect to the fluid to be treated, is pervious and exhibits desired separation capabilities. They may also, at least in part, include material which is substantially impervious to the fluid. They include bridges spanning flow paths to form lateral flow paths, and they may also include flow paths that are unbridged. All flow paths through such embodiments are either through structural elements which themselves have desired separation capabilities or are occupied by separation material that is pervious to the fluid being treated and is of such desired characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5378354
Abstract: An apparatus for recovering liquid from liquid contaminated small articles of manufacture has a housing which defines upper and lower chambers separated by an inclined perforated plate. A vacuum producer withdraws air from the housing causing liquid contaminated articles discharged from a production machine to be drawn into the housing through a flexible suction hose. Liquid contaminated articles entrained within the incoming airstream enter the housing, strike a target plate, and drop onto the perforated plate. Liquid drains from the articles, passes through the perforated plate, accumulates in a sump in the lower portion of the housing and is pumped to a recovery station. An access opening in the housing facilitates removal of the articles from the housing.

  • Patent number: 5292437
Abstract: A reusable multilayer filter for use with a beverage brewing apparatus. The multilayer filter includes a foraminous support player, a porous mesh layer and a multiplicity of wrinkles formed in the porous mesh layer. The foraminous support layer has a multiplicity of spaced apart holes extending through the layer. The porous mesh layer overlies and is attached to the foraminous support layer. The mesh layer is formed of a woven, etched, or deposited material which has a multiplicity of small openings extending therethrough. The openings in the porous mesh layer are smaller than the holes in the foraminous support layer for selectively retaining material having a dimension larger than the openings. The wrinkles in the porous mesh layer are formed in spaced apart areas which are defined by a perimeter of the holes in the foraminous support layer. The wrinkles increase the effective surface area of the filter.

  • Patent number: 5268100
Abstract: A manure separating apparatus includes a trough with angularly bottom surfaces that converge downwardly to a discharge opening. A drain screen is located above the bottom trough surfaces and includes somewhat similarly angled downward converging infeed and discharge surfaces. The infeed section of the drain screen is approximately twice as long and at a smaller angle to the horizontal than the discharge screen section. A manure/liquid slurry may be introduced at a top infeed end of the screen and moved downwardly along the infeed section of the screen by a paddle conveyor. Separation of solids occurs primarily along the infeed screen section. The slurry is then moved angularly upwardly along the discharge section of the screen for final dewatering. The discharge section is spaced above the trough bottom to avoid liquids on the trough bottom below to facilitate dewatering of the solids before discharge.
