The inside diameter of the flange is less than the outside diameter of the rib on the neck so that the flange engages the upper surface of the rib to flex the skirt radially outwardly during downward movement of the closure on the neck until the flange snaps beneath the neck rib to hold the closure in sealing engagement with the neck.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 1981Date of Patent: June 22, 1982Assignee: Sunbeam Plastics CorporationInventor: Randall G. Patent number: 4335823Abstract: A child-resistant package consists of a container having an open-ended neck and a cap having a top and an annular skirt which telescopes over the container neck. There are co-operating snap-over retainers on the exterior of the neck and the interior of the cap skirt which require the cap to be moved axially a distance greater than the axial over-lap of the retainers in order to remove the cap. The container neck and the cap skirt also have a radially extending lug and a circumferentially extending ramp that are moved into engageable alignment by flexing the cap skirt inwardly. The ramp has a surface which is inclined relative to the axis of the neck and cap skirt and which has an axial height greater than the distance of axial over-lap of the retainers. In order to remove the cap, the skirt is flexed inwardly to align the lug with the ramp surface and the cap is rotated relative to the container neck causing the cap to be moved axially a distance sufficient to disengage the over-lapped retainers.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 1981Date of Patent: June 22, 1982Assignee: Sunbeam Plastics CorporationInventors: Gary V. Patent number: 4298036Abstract: An improved dispenser for cosmetic stick solids such as deodorants constructed to be filled in either normal or inverted position. This dispenser is cylindrical having walls of substantially uniform diameter, an open top, and substantially closed bottom. The dispenser is constructed so that the dispensing means is either pushed up manually, or propelled by a screw-mechanism. In the latter case a long screw is mounted in a central opening in the bottom, and continues along the axis of the cylinder. The cap of the dispenser may assume either of two forms, a snap-on type, or a screw-on type, each exhibiting an air-tight seal. The snap-cap is constructed to include a plurality of cams which operate in conjunction with similar members on the mouth of the cylindrical container to provide relative ease in opening and closing the snap-cap.The dispenser is designed to be filled in a conventional manner from the opening in the top, or, alternatively, from a hole in the bottom of the cylindrical container.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1979Date of Patent: November 3, 1981Assignee: Plastic Research Products, Inc.Inventor: William Horvath

Patent number: 4298129Abstract: A childproof safety screw cap and container having yieldable cap retainer means which are overcome, to effect cap removal, by a quarter-turn twist that produces a relatively large axial cap travel due to the provision of multiple screw thread elements thereon. The cap can be pushed straight on, accompanied by bypassing of the threads. The retainer means and the threads increase their interlock action if the cap is squeezed laterally, as by the act of a child applying its teeth to the cap. A shielding flange on the container defeats efforts to bite the cap under its bottom rim, and a bevelled top peripheral portion of the cap defeats its being gripped at the top, by the teeth.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1980Date of Patent: November 3, 1981Inventor: Morton Stull

Patent number: 4284200Abstract: A one-piece child-resistant dispensing closure for a container which has an open end. The closure has a skirt which mates with the end of the container and a top which spans the space defined by the skirt. Preferably there are two dispensing openings through the top, each of which is surrounded by an upwardly extending rim. The closure also comprises a lid for each opening and a hinge for each lid. The hinges and lids are integral parts of the closure. The lids have similar rims which fit around the rims on the closure top when the lids are swung over to close the dispensing openings. In the closed position, ribs on the edges of the pairs of opposed rims snap over each other and ears on the inner sides of the lids are closely spaced from a fulcrum on the closure top. The engagement of the ribs holds the lids closed. Pry means, such as a coin or blade, may be inserted between the fulcrum and a lid ear to pry the particular lid open.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1979Date of Patent: August 18, 1981Assignee: Sunbeam Plastics CorporationInventors: Randall G. Patent number: 4278178Abstract: A child-resistant closure and container system is provided with a snap on and off closure requiring a coin or tool to remove the closure. A skirt wall on the closure is positioned sufficiently close to a shoulder on the container that the gap between the bottom edge of the skirt wall and adjacent shoulder is insufficient to admit a tool or to allow the teeth of a child to enter and to be used to pry off the closure. The shoulder diameter is equal to or greater than the diameter of the skirt wall to prevent the child's teeth from engaging and prying off the cap. A small notch is formed in the skirt wall to allow a coin or tool to be inserted and to be twisted against the shoulder to pry off the closure.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1979Date of Patent: July 14, 1981Assignee: Kerr Glass Manufacturing CorporationInventor: Milton L.
