Frangible Member Or Portion Patents (Class 215/250)
  • Patent number: 7416077
Abstract: A disposable-type carrying case wherein the parts that house contact lenses cannot be re-sealed is realized via an easy-to-use construction. In the case main unit 10B of a contact lens carrying case 10, when a handle 12 that is integrally formed with a cover unit 20B is rotated in the clockwise direction, end portions 27G and 27H that are integrally formed with the handle 12 are gradually lifted up starting with the parts thereof that are near the handle 12 while engaging members 40G and 40H are fixed in position. When this occurs, first bridges 29G and 29H that are connected to end portions 27G and 27H are strongly pulled in the direction of rotation of the handle 12 while maintaining connection to top portions 41G and 41H. As a result, the first bridges 29G and 29H are sheared off from the end portions 27G and 27H and the engaging portions 40G and 40H detach from the cover unit 20B.

  • Publication number: 20080179273
Abstract: A cap for use with bottled water dispensing systems. The cap includes a main cap and a liner. The main cap has an opening which receives and seals against a probe. The liner is gripped between the main cap and the bottle neck and has a outside part and an inner movable part. The inner movable part is linked to the outer part by a large connecting section that serves as a hinge, and breakable or frangible connecting section. When the bottle is lowered onto the dispensing system, the probe enters into the opening in the main cap, breaks the frangible connection, and pushes the inner movable part open like a flap. The liner, at the location of the large connecting section, is resilient such that the inner movable part tends to close when the bottle is removed from the dispensing system.

  • Patent number: 7237698
Abstract: A multi layered frangible seal is bonded over the pour spout opening of flexible plastic bottles containing pourable products such as motor oil. The seal provides a leak proof closure that is strong enough to remain intact when the filled uncapped container is held in an inverted position, and at the same weak enough to break open and dispense the contents into a fill opening when a consumer squeezes the inverted container. The seal is constructed from a first layer of leak proof frangible sheet material that is bonded to a second layer of strengthening sheet material. The strengthening layer contains a cut out void configuration that forms a breaking pattern which forces the seal to break open only in the weaker single frangible layered configuration of the cut out void forming the breaking pattern when the container is squeezed.

The snap lid has a closing wall from which an annular sealing lip projects towards an inside of the package, and can be brought into contact with an inside surface of the edge in sealing engagement. The closing wall is provided with an outside catch for snap engagement with a snap catch of the edge of the head. The head of the package widens outwards and upwards at its edge, and both the inner surface of this edge and an outer surface of the sealing lip on the snap lid are curved convexly relative to each other. The invention also includes preforms for making the package of the invention.

Abstract: A fluid transfer system suitable for emptying a container or flask closed by a liquid-tight removable frangible closure obtained from a material that can be recycled. Photoprocessing materials are transferred from a first container having the frangible container into an adjoining second container. The frangible closure has a single closure sheet fixed to a lateral skirt for mounting the frangible closure on the spout of the flask, for example with a screw. The flask is emptied by tipping the flask onto a perforation device that perforates a central weakness in the closure sheet which connects with a radial weakness at the seam of the closure sheet and lateral skirt, allowing for lower puncture forces.

  • Patent number: 6192948
Abstract: A closure for a transportable container used in the transfer of materials to or from an enclosed process area is described. The container docks with a port in a wall of the process area forming a sealed connecting chamber which is sterilized by irradiation. Communication between the interiors of the container and the process area is then established. The closure has a collar and a lid, which portions are formed so that all the surfaces which form part of the connecting chamber in use are in the direct line of the sterilizing radiation, which is normally ultra-violet or pulsed white light radiation. No relevant surface is shadowed from the radiation. The lid may be formed integrally with the collar with a thin web separating the two to define a fracture line. The lid is provided with a grip which can be grasped from within the process area. Application of a pulling force to the grip causes the lid to be pealed away from the collar without the generation of particulates.

Abstract: A flavor enhancing mechanism for bottled water, club soda, and bland liquid comestibles, is described. The flavor enhancing mechanism includes a bottle cap containing a flexible bellows. The bellows is generally transparently clear, flexible plastic. The bottle cap and bellows are mounted upon a bottle containing a liquid comestible, whose flavor is to be enhanced. The bellows contains concentrates of fruit juices and/or other natural flavors. The bottle cap is designed to be screw threaded or snap fitted onto the standard lip portion of glass or plastic drinking containers. Upon application of a downward force, the flavor enhancers are squeezed from the flexible bellows, and injected downwardly into the bland liquid substances held in the bottle.

  • Patent number: 6158604
Abstract: One form of a cap for a container includes an internal part and an external part relatively movable with respect to one another among closed, intermediate and open cap positions. Complementary structures protrude from the internal and external parts for dictating relative positions of the internal and external parts as the parts are initially joined together. Interengaging elements on the internal and external parts secure a selected portion of one of the internal and external parts to the other after joining the parts together. A breakable seal between the selected portion of the one of the internal and external parts and the remainder of the one of the internal and external parts, when broken, allows the internal and external parts to move relative to one another. Variations are also disclosed.
