Line Of Weakness Extends Circumferentially Of Receptacle Mouth Opening Patents (Class 215/256)
  • Patent number: 5735426
Abstract: A fitment and closure assembly useful with a gable-topped carton having a gable-forming panel with a pouring hole, through which contents are pourable from the carton, is molded from low density polyethylene. A fitment having a tubular spout formed with an external thread and an annular flange extending outwardly from the tubular spout, below the external thread, is attachable to the gable-forming panel so that the annular flange is attached to the gable-forming panel, around the pouring hole, and so that the tubular spout extends upwardly from the pouring hole. A closure having an upper wall, a tubular skirt with an internal thread and an upper shoulder, and a plug seal forming an annular recess between the plug seal and the upper shoulder is threadable onto the fitment so that the external and internal threads are interengaged and so that the upper end of the tubular spout enters the annular recess with an interference fit.

  • Patent number: 5720402
Abstract: A cap and container combination wherein the cap fits about the container in at least two closure positions. Two circumferential bands are provided around the skirt of the cap and there is an internal thread which engages an external thread about the container neck. In the first position, one band of the cap engages a circumferential slot about the container. The internal thread seals with the top of the container. The first band is removed and the container opened by removing the cap. In the second position, the second band engages the slot and the threads engage each other. In the second position, the second band is located about the container. It remains in position when and after the cap is removed. Tampering of the container and cap can be visually detected with this configuration. A bead about the container is formed of a reduced cross-section in portions circumferentially around the cap. This facilitates assembly and disassembly of cap and container.

  • Patent number: 5715959
Abstract: Closure caps with anti-tamper strips (3) are used to visually display initial opening of a container to the public. The possibility of opening such a container without evidence should be prevented as far as possible. The possibility of stretching the anti-tamper strip (3), in order to then manipulate it past the bead on the container mouth, is here countered by an additional security ring (7). This security ring (7) is arranged coaxially to the actual anti-tamper ring (3). It is connected to the anti-tamper ring and mainly surrounds the lower area (5) of said anti-tamper ring. Access to the actual anti-tamper ring is considerably hindered as a result. In a preferred embodiment, the security ring possesses weakened zones (10) that break during manipulation, so that the interference will be visibly displayed to the outside.

  • Patent number: 5711441
Abstract: An internal fitment has a bottom peripheral flange adapted to be ultrasonically welded or otherwise attached to a panel of a paperboard carton surrounding a hold in such panel. Above the flange is a spout which converges upwardly and has a cylindrical external locking bead. Above the spout is an outward slanted tear band and above the tear band is a reclosure cap having a top, a depending skirt formed with internal interrupted beads and a plug. The tear band is connected to the spout and cap by thin horizontal tear lines. A finger grip tab extends outwardly of downward with respect to the tear band so that the consumer may conveniently grip the tab, pulling it circumferentially around the spout to separate the tab from both spout and cap. The cap is dimensioned so that the skirt fits over the outside of the spout, the beads detachably locking under the locking bead. The plug seals against the inside of the spout to prevent spillage.

Abstract: To ensure the original state of the contents of a receptacle, the stopper comprises inwardly oriented blocking attachments on a surrounding tear-off sealing ring, with the blocking attachments gripping below an outwardly oriented annular projection of the receptacle. The blocking attachments are formed by lateral slides which cooperate with an inner contour sleeve. The sealing ring is respectively connected by a single tear-off web centrally between two adjacent blocking attachments to the upper circumferential wall. As a result, the finished stopper can be slid from the contour sleeve after cooling to 80.degree., the blocking attachments being smoothly guided on the guide surfaces of the contour sleeve. The sealing ring bulges elastically between two adjacent tear-off webs and subsequently assumes its original circular shape again.

Before a cap portion of the closure cap member can be removed to permit the pouring of the liquid, a tear band must first be removed from the closure cap member, thereby providing tamper resistance. Additionally, the cap portion must be aligned with the sleeve before it can be removed, thereby providing child resistance.

Abstract: A covered airtight container capable of preventing a soup from leaking therefrom. The covered airtight container comprises a body made of hard plastics and a cover made of soft plastics wherein the cover has a reverse channel-shaped edge portion piece formed by bending the upper end edge thereof upward and reversing it downward so as to cover the upper end portion of the body. The body has an annular stepped portion to which the cover is retained at the inner peripheral surface of the upper end portion of the peripheral wall. The cover has an annularly projected fin for elastically contacting the edge of said annular stepped portion. The covered airtight container may be formed square shaped with circumferential surfaces of the body and cover being slightly curved shape close to a circle. Particularly, the leaking prevention effect can be conspicuous since the sealing effect or state is assured at the inner and outer surfaces of the peripheral wall of the body.

Abstract: A fitment attached around an aperture in a container has a flange from which extends an internally threaded spout closed by an initially integrally molded externally threaded plug. The plug is moved axially into the spout, the threads slipping over each other. The plug has an outward extending slotted ear and the fitment has an upward extending finger aligned with the slot in the ear and formed with tangs which lock the finger and ear together as the plug is moved to the spout, thereby making the device tamper-evident. As a further feature of the invention, an over-size foil seal extends across the bottom of the flange and is welded or otherwise adhered to the bottom of the flange. After assembly the portion of the foil extending outside the flange is welded or otherwise adhered to the carton. This further feature is particularly useful in aseptic packaging. Optionally the lower edge of the plug may be welded to the foil so that when the consumer unscrews the plug the foil under the spout is torn away.
