  • Patent number: 4312695
Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing a liner from a formed metal closure by at least partially everting the closure with an advancing punch adapted to temporarily couple the everted closure. By everting the closure, the liner becomes accessible to be retained within the closure support and is separated from the closure when the punch is retracted. A stripper is provided adjacent the punch to separate the everted metal portion of the closure from the punch.

  • Patent number: 4260067
Abstract: The closure consists of inner and outer caps which are disposed concentrically about the mouth of a container. A flap or latch is cut into the side wall of the inner cap and the latch is biased such that its upper edge is normally disposed beneath a lip formed in the brim of the container to lock the inner cap about the mouth of the container. The outer cap is maintained concentrically about the inner cap by means of the lower edge of the latch which is accommodated in an annular groove formed in the inside wall of the outer cap. The caps may be removed from the container by first forcing the outer cap downwardly relative to the inner cap. As the outer cap moves downwardly the wall of its groove contacts the lower portion of the latch and causes the latch to pivot to a position at which its upper edge is no longer beneath the brim lip. Secondly the inner cap is grasped along with the outer cap and the two caps are removed together as a unit from the container.

  • Patent number: 4235349
Abstract: A safety closure is provided for closing the open neck of containers having a bead type finish formed on such neck end. The closure comprises a unitary element molded from a resilient plastic material and having a generally horizontal circular panel portion and an integral, generally vertical peripheral flange portion. The flange portion is provided with an internally projecting rib which snaps into engagement with the groove normally provided beneath the bead of a container bead finish. In the closed position of the closure on the container, the bottom edge of the closure flange is flush with the side wall of the container neck and cannot be engaged by the fingers to pry the closure off of the container.

  • Patent number: 4220262
Abstract: An improved safety closure for containers of harmful products includes an inverted cup-shaped body member formed of resilient plastic material and an integrally molded locking flap connected by an integral hinge to the top periphery of the body member. The locking flap folds into a conforming recess in the top surface or panel of the body portion, and, in its folded position, all edges of the locking flap are flush with the adjacent surface of the panel. One or more dispensing openings are provided in the panel and sealing means are provided on the bottom of the flap to close the dispensing openings in the folded position of the locking flap. Two distinct sets of cooperating locking surfaces are provided on the flap and body portion to retain the locking flap in its folded position. The one set requires a vertically downward pressure on a specific area on the panel to release.

  • Patent number: 4194640
Abstract: A closure structure for a vial or container, preferably of the two-compartment type, wherein lyophilized medication is contained in one compartment and a solvent is contained in the other compartment with a displaceable, moisture-proof plug disposed between the two compartments. The closure structure is comprised of a stopper which is partially inserted into the neck of a vial and is covered by a cap member having a fastening portion for securing the cap member to the open end of the vial neck and a sleeve portion of reduced diameter which snugly surrounds the protruding portion of the stopper and is disconnectible from the fastening portion in order to move with the protruding portion of the stopper into the neck of the bottle under manually applied pressure. A dust shield is secured to the free end of the sleeve portion and is preferably removed after which the needle of a syringe can be inserted through the stopper to communicate with the interior of the vial.
