    Abstract: A single-use, snap-over cap for use primarily in healthcare settings in order to maintain the integrity of a medication solution. The cap has a tapered cylindrical skirt, a puncture resistant lid portion, and one or more latch tabs. When placed onto a flanged injection port such as is found on a conventional fluid container, the latch tabs engage and flex about the port flange. After the cap is placed, the latch tabs engage the port flange to prevent upward axial movement relative to the port, thereby preventing removal of the cap and thus deterring unwanted or erroneous drug administrations or withdrawals.

    Abstract: A cap with a tamper-evident ring is designed to snap engage a container that is provided with an upper and lower bead. A ring of teeth provided along an inside skirt of the cap engage teeth located along an inside wall of the container. When the cap is snapped onto the container, both sets of teeth automatically engage and a plug seal provided on the cap engages the container upper bead. By turning the cap clockwise or counterclockwise, the side angles of the teeth force the cap to disengage upwards over the upper bead and unsnap from the container. When the closure is opened for the first time, the ring breaks away from the cap and slides down the container below the lower bead, which keeps the ring from coming off the container and provides evidence that the cap had been opened.

It has been found that for blowmolded containers that the support flange for the bottle preform can later be used as a part of the latch mechanism to secure a closure onto the container. Preforms have a support flange by which the preform is handled prior to being placed into the mold and in the mold. Prior to being placed in the mole, the preform is heated to about 85oC to about 200oC. During this time and in the mold, it will be supported by the support flange. This support flange is used after the container is blown and filled as one part of the latching mechanism of the closure. The closure will have a portion that is an interference fit with the support flange of the bottle to thereby secure the closure to the bottle.

    Abstract: A blown plastic container that includes a hollow plastic body, an integral blow-molded neck and an integral blow-molded finish with a radially outwardly extending blow-molded thread or bead for retaining a closure on the finish. Reinforcement is provided between the thread or bead and a ledge on the finish to prevent collapse of the finish when a closure is applied to the finish. In one form, this reinforcement includes blow-molded axial columns extending radially outwardly. In another form, the reinforcement includes geometric depressions. Preferably, the reinforcement is disposed circumferentially at equal spacing. When the container is trimmed, the finish may have an annular frustoconical radial ledge spaced form the open end of the finish. The reinforcement extends between the ledge and the lowest thread or bead, between the thread or bead, or for the full height of the finish above the ledge.

To this end, the locking means is of flexible locking tongues arranged such that they are inclined diametrally inwardly of the skirt and upwardly towards the ceiling of the protector, whereby, upon depressing the unit closure to its hermetically sealing posture, the locking tongues deflect radially outward of the skirt and, on completion of the depression of the unit closure, the locking tongues snap resiliently into place underneath a flange of the mouth of the container to hold firmly the unit closure in the hermetically sealing posture.

    Abstract: A child-resistant adult-friendly prescription storage vial is presented with an over-cap which can only be removed from the vial by first orienting the cap at a particular point on the vial and then depressing a pair of push-tabs on the cap. When the cap is properly oriented the push-tabs mechanically operate a pair of locking tabs on the vial which hold the cap in place. The locking tabs are designed so that an extended lip on the tab interlocks with a slit on the cap and can only be removed from the slit when the push-tabs on the cap are manually operated.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a closure for a container, such as a blow molded jug having a neck surrounding an opening therein, the closure having a first annular portion and a second annular portion. The first annular portion in the closure has a wiper seal and a lip seal. The second annular portion exerts an upward pressure on the lip seal which causes improved sealing and leak-tight properties during shipping, handling, etc. The upward pressure also enhances the effectiveness of the wiper seal. The second annular portion may include an annular tear skirt having a pull tab for the removal thereof to facilitate removal of the closure from the container. The closure may also include a plug seal, and a lower annular portion extending from the second annular portion.

A first side wall separates the first and the second grooves, and a second side wall separates the second and the third grooves. A preferred embodiment of the cap comprises a female receptacle adapted to receive one of the foregoing male nipples, a male projection adapted to be inserted into the dialysate port, a manually grippable portion facilitating manual attachment and detachment of the cap, and a channel or analogous feature defined by the female receptacle for venting of the medical device through the male nipple whenever the cap is fully attached to the male nipple.

The main portion is selectively secured to the lid with a latch, the latch opposite the hinge. The central bore has internal grooves, and the plug has protuberances which match the internal grooves to effect a tight seal between the central bore and plug. The main portion further has an upper groove, and the lid has a ring which fits in the upper groove. The ring is larger in diameter and concentric with the plug. At least one opening preventer attaches between the lid and main portion to prevent inadvertant opening of the bottle and for revealing tampering to the bottle, since the opening preventer can be opened once, and then cannot be restored.
