Patent number: 4817831Abstract: An expandable sealing plug and supporting structure adaptable for both pull-to-open, push-to-close and twist-to-open, twist-to-close captive dispensing caps is provided. The expandable plug is manufactured with thinner walls than that of the supporting structure and a compatible outer cap, and is designed to balloon outwardly when the assembled cap and container experience an increase in internal pressure. This ballooning affect tightens the connection between the plug and the dispensing orifice in the outer cap, thereby increasing the sealing of the dispensing cap. Material resilience returns the plug to the original plug shape on release of internal pressure and maintains original plug shape when no unusual pressure is applied.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 1988Date of Patent: April 4, 1989Inventor: G. Patent number: 4645096Abstract: A unique combination of a neck having a back wall which extends above a front wall and a closure for sealing an opening in the neck is disclosed. The back wall has a lip which extends into the opening for engaging the closure. The closure is inserted into the opening such that a groove in its upper surface is engaged by the lip to prevent movement of the closure out of the opening. Removal of the closure is accomplished by depressing it into the opening slightly to release the lip from the groove, and then rotating it about the front wall. In one embodiment, the front wall includes a tamper-proof tab which must break away from the front wall when the closure is rotated during a removal operation. Patent number: 4600125Abstract: A convenient, spill-resistant and highly versatile pouring system for containerized liquids is disclosed. A primary funnel includes a container seating well having a built-in container piercing element. The primary funnel is inverted and placed over a liquid container or vice versa to carry out the piercing operation, following which the primary funnel and pierced container are in an upright position so that the reduced diameter pouring spout of the primary funnel can enter an aperture of a receiver of the liquid. Easily attachable secondary and tertiary pouring spout extensions allow pouring from the primary funnel into receivers having restricted openings and into receivers at relatively inaccessible locations. A convenient closure plug adapted to fit all pouring spouts of the system is provided. The secondary pouring spout can also be conveniently coupled with a standard size outlet of a bulk liquid storage container.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 1985Date of Patent: July 15, 1986Inventor: Walter P. Patent number: 4472091Abstract: Apparatus which controllably meters dry powder from a powder supply chamber falling through a vertically disposed axial passageway interconnecting the supply chamber with a mixing chamber therebelow for forming an air-powder mixture therein for transport to a desired site. A tapered plug member is bonded to a bimorph bender comprising a piezoelectric element bonded to each face of a thin, flat, cantilevered metallic beam which is deflectable by a dc bias or driving voltage applied to the bender to cause the tapered plug to penetrate or move within the passageway, thus varying width of annular gap formed between the plug and passageway, and hence, amount of powder capable of falling therethrough. An oscillating voltage may be impressed upon the piezoelectric elements to cause the deflected beam to additionally be vibratorily displaced in accordance with the frequency of vibrations of the impressed oscillating source.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1983Date of Patent: September 18, 1984Assignee: Pennwalt CorporationInventor: John W. Patent number: 4470164Abstract: A preferred cap for the fill spout of a water bed comprises a screw cap having a top and a threaded flange which is capable of mating with the threaded portion of a fill spout, a turning knob, and a sliding shaft for connecting the screw cap to the turning knob. The shaft allows the knob to reciprocate between a first position substantially abutting the top of the cap and a second position raised above the top. In the raised position, turning of the knob turns the screw cap through the shaft, thereby unthreading or threading the screw cap onto the threaded portion of the fill spout. The knob may also be used as a handle to apply sufficient force to extract a retracted fill spout from its stored position in the envelope of the water bed.To enhance sealing of a cap in a water bed, a sealing thimble may be used to fill the inner volume of the fill spout. An outwardly projecting flange of the thimble bears against the rim of the fill spout.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 1981Date of Patent: September 11, 1984Inventors: Keith A. Patent number: 4266692Abstract: A sealed container having matter, such as a liquid, paste or powder effectively sealed in the container, has an elongate stopper member transversely disposed in the seal. The seal grips the elongate stopper member but is not sealed thereto. The elongate stopper member has one end extending through the seal and the other end extending outside the container. The outside end of the stopper member may be grasped and pulled. The end extending into the container will be caused to be withdrawn through the container seal, leaving an opening into the container through the space formerly occupied by the elongate stopper member. The matter within the container may then be expelled through the opening.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1978Date of Patent: May 12, 1981Assignee: Bausch & Lomb IncorporatedInventor: James A. Clark

Patent number: 4261485Abstract: The specification of the present invention discloses an automatic bottle cap that may be applied to an opened receptacle. The valve used in this cap automatically opens when the receptacle is tipped for pouring and closes when the receptacle returns to the upright position. The device uses two permanent magnets positioned such that a net unbalanced force exists between them which is used to open or close the valve. The movement of one magnet within the structure causes the direction of the net unbalanced force to be reversed causing the second magnet and associated valve stem to move and open or close the valve.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1979Date of Patent: April 14, 1981Inventor: Raymond Borg

Patent number: 4185587Abstract: Feeder apparatus is provided for delivering a pre-determined amount of feed to hogs and like livestock. The apparatus includes a feed transporting and dispensing conveyor with which are associated a plurality of feeder units; each unit receives and temporarily stores the feed. Each unit includes a feed receiver body. A boot extends from the body and defines a discharge opening. A pear-shaped stopper valve carried in the boot fits into and onto the discharge opening to obstruct the flow. A stopper valve pull system acts to draw the stopper valve away from the discharge opening, thereby permitting feed flow; if desired, this pull system can be connected to a timer so as to discharge the feed at a pre-selected moment. The stopper valve includes a semi-spheroidal element adapted to fit into and onto the discharge opening and a conical element adapted to be drawn through the feed pile so as to discourage feed bridging and hang-up within the feeder unit body.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1978Date of Patent: January 29, 1980Assignee: Chore-Time Equipment, Inc.Inventor: Ingmar Kallin
