The carriages support corresponding rope sheaves for free rotation, and a pair of fluid cylinders are mounted on the beam and have piston rods connected directly to the corresponding carriages. The rope sheave on each carriage has at least two peripheral grooves to receive a double loop of the rope, and the frame supports a corresponding multiple groove sheave for each of the carriage sheaves and for also receiving a double loop of the rope.

    Abstract: A one-piece clip of flexible metallic plastic material has a first section which can be separably affixed to a belt conveyor, and an elongated slotted second section. A web of photosensitive material is caused to extend through the slot of the second section so that its leader is located at one side and the next-following portion of the web is located at the other side of the slot. The leader is then folded against the respective major surface of the second section, and the web is form-lockingly connected to the second section. The form-locking connection can be established by one or more pairs of complementary tooth-shaped protuberances which extend into the slot and penetrate into and through the folded portion of the web behind the leader, by securing the leader to the next-following portion of the web by a clamp in an enlarged window-like portion of the slot, or by bonding a small part of the leader to the next-following portion of the web in such window-like portion of the slot.

    Abstract: The insertion of thread into a yarn tester is accomplished by a mechanism that includes a clamp (3) for the thread end and an insertion arm (14) mounted for pivoting movement about a fixed axis to contact a portion of the thread above the clamp and swing a loop portion of the thread down into the space between feed rollers and to present the loop to a take-over nozzle (13). The thread is transferred from the insertion arm to the nozzle (13) and is fixed until transfer in the clamp (3), so that the thread transfer takes place in the form of a loop. Consequently, the insertion arm (14) need have no special thread clamp and can be of correspondingly simple design. The pivoting movement of the insertion arm (14) requires only a simple drive, and the take-over of the loop-shaped thread (F) by the take-over member is carried out without difficulty.

    Abstract: A web threader assembly comprises at least one flexible stainless steel belt to which the leading edge of a web can be detachably affixed. The belt is conveyed through a web path extending through the dryer or other machine in which the web travels, is guided by a plurality of pulleys and tensioning devices, and is positively driven through the dryer or other web processing machine by its own drive system. The belt is extremely thin and thus permits tight sealing of the dryer or other machine requiring a threading operation and also requires no lubrication, and also can be easily cleaned and thus can be used in sterile environments. If the threader is to be used with a relatively wide web, two spaced apart belts are preferably provided and connected threader bar to which the web is attached. An electronic control system monitors operation of the threader assembly and terminates operation of the threader assembly upon breakage or jamming of the web or the belt.

    Abstract: A gripper assembly grips a double layered end portion of a tape with a tacky side of the tape facing downwardly and a backing side of the tape facing upwardly. A tape feed assembly feeds the tape, with the tacky side down, from a tape storage reel to the gripper assembly at the speed at which the gripper assembly moves along a tape support to tend to minimize tension in the portion of the tape disposed between the tape feed assembly and the gripper assembly. When the desired length of tape has been fed, the tacky side of the tape is moved into engagement with the upper side of the tape support. Suction is applied to the tacky side of the tape to hold the tape in position on the tape support. While the tape is disposed on the tape support, opposite ends of the tape are cut. A tape transfer manifold applies suction to the upwardly facing backing side of the cut tape to grip the tape.

    Abstract: The tape threading mechanism threads a magnetic tape from a magnetic tape cartridge along a tape transport path to a take-up reel by using a two-member, spring loaded tape threading arm which uses two cam surfaces to control the articulation of the spring-loaded tape threading arm. A cam follower formed on the upper end of a leader block locating pin of the tape threading arm engages a short cam surface at the beginning of the tape transport path to guide the leader block of the magnetic tape along a short distance at which time the tape threading arm is smoothly accelerating. Once the cam follower disengages from the cam surface, the spring-loaded tape threading arm is locked into a fixed radius which allows the magnetic tape to maintain a constant velocity through approximately three hundred degrees of rotation, at which time the cam follower engages a second cam surface. The second cam surface guides the cam follower and leader block into position to engage the take-up reel.

Laterally aligned pairs of circular perforations located near the outer longitudinal edges of the guide, are provided through the thickness dimension of both upper and lower half-sheets. The bearing of the transport wheel can shift linearly, or along a small arc, the force being generated by the weight of the wheel or by a spring.

    Abstract: A paper tailing device accommodates automatic transfer of an initial portion of a paper web across a gap in a paper making machine during guiding of the initial portion through the machine. The paper tailing device comprises a pair of brackets, one on each side of the gap and each carrying a pair of sheaves over which carrier ropes extend. During guiding of the initial portion of the web through the machine, a side edge of the web is gripped between the carrier ropes, and at the sheaves, the ropes define an outgoing nip on one side of the gap and an incoming nip on the opposite side. To transfer the leading end of the web across the gap, the brackets are moved close together in the gap to place the nips in close facing relationship, so that as the leading end of the web exits the outgoing nip it is automatically introduced into the incoming nip.

    Abstract: Apparatus for threading the leader of a flexible web through a coating, drying or other processing machine has an elongated steel strip which is adjacent the path of movement of the web through the machine and one side of which is overlapped by an inflatable hose. The leader of the web is separably coupled to a follower by a wire or cord, and the follower tracks the strip and simultaneously overlies and deflates a portion of the hose. The hose is connected with a source of compressed air, at least at one side of the follower, so that when the source admits compressed air into the hose, the latter is inflated and propels the follower along the strip. The follower has a smooth-surfaced slightly convex first roll which overlies and deforms the adjacent portion of the hose, and a flanged second roll which engages the strip opposite the hose so that the strip and the hose are located between the two rolls.

After the rotational member rotates by a predetermined angle, it is stopped to form a loop of the printing paper.

When the clamp and the belt are thus positioned, the male die is moved into the female die. This causes the marginal portions of the belt to approach one another.
