  • Patent number: 7753669
Abstract: A system for flexing a web is disclosed. The web passes over two co-rotating members, such as rollers or belts, which are separated by a small adjustable gap. The web travels around the first rotating member, is peeled off in the vicinity of the gap, bent back on itself in a small radius and reattached on the second co-rotating member. The location of the small radius is fixed with a closed loop control system sensing the radius location and controlling the relative velocity of the two members. Strain in the web is adjusted with the size of the small radius, which is controlled by the adjustable gap and radius location.

  • Publication number: 20090244246
Abstract: An inkjet printer prevents the paper from lifting away from the platen when the suction action of the platen is stopped, and thereby prevents paper jams and other printing problems. The printer 1 conveys the printing paper 12a while holding the paper 12a to the surface of the platen 19 by a suction mechanism 50. After the automatic paper cutting operation is completed, the leading end part 12b of the printing paper 12a is retracted from the cutting position B to the printing start position A on the platen 19, and the printer 1 waits for the next print job with the printing paper 12a held against the platen 19. When a power conservation mode or power off mode is entered, the control unit 61 of the printer 1 advances the leading end part 12b of the printing paper 12a from the printing start position A to the cutting position B so that the paper is held by the downstream-side paper feed roller 34 and pressure roller 35, and then stops the power supply to the suction mechanism 50 of the platen 19.

  • Patent number: 6622623
Abstract: In a method for conveying sheets in a sheet-printing machine, the sheets are held securely in position on a circumferential surface of sheet-guiding cylinders with the aid of an adhesive, which can be detached again a number of times and does not transfer itself onto the sheets, and are conveyed through the printing stations of the printing machine. For transport without using grippers, the sheets are held in an area of their front and rear edges only by the adhesive, and are lifted off the circumferential surface of the impression cylinders with the aid of a sheet-lifting device in order for the front edge to be transferred to a downstream sheet-guiding cylinder. Lifting the sheets off the circumferential surface of the cylinders results in a peel-off effect, by which the adhesive bond can be readily released again.

  • Patent number: 5178313
Abstract: An apparatus for uniformly applying a compressive force against a filament to pneumatically drive the filament or fiber optic cable against a capstan without any concentrated amount of stress at any point on the filament is effectuated by pneumatically forcing the filament into an equatorial V-groove defined in the capstan. Pneumatic pressure is applied to a predefined segment of the capstan by a pneumatic shoe having an internal shoe pressure chamber. The pressurized gas or air is applied to the segment from the chamber within the shoe into the proximity of the equatorial V-groove on the equator of a disc shaped capstan. The V-groove is vented to atmosphere so that the cable is forced or blown into the V-groove. Side and end clearances between the rotating capstan and the shoe are sized to allow the viscosity of the pressurized gas to operate to retard the escape of the pressurized gas from the predefined segment of the capstan.
