  • Patent number: 7578010
Abstract: A recessed incrementally rotating nozzle assembly is located in a wall or bottom surface of a swimming pool in fluid communication through a conduit with a source of water under pressure from a valve, which valve periodically releases water into the conduit. Each time water flows, a nozzle housing is raised to eject a stream of water. As the nozzle housing rises, it is incrementally rotated by a pin engaging a saw tooth member of a cam ring. Upon cessation of flow, the nozzle housing is retracted and during retraction the nozzle housing is further incrementally rotated by the pin engaging another saw tooth member of the cam ring. After a predetermined degree of angular rotation, a cam reverser slidably reorients protrusions guiding the pin into and out of the saw tooth members to cause the pin to be guided by the opposite side of the saw tooth members and thereby cause reversal of the direction of rotation of the nozzle housing.

  • Patent number: 5975430
Abstract: A sprinkler device has a helical track and a tracking element coupled between a reciprocating piston and a rotating head or nozzle to convert the reciprocal linear motion of the piston to rotation motion of the head or nozzle. A sprinkler housing defines a chamber for receiving the reciprocating piston. A sprinkler head is rotatably disposed on the housing and has a shaft extending into a cavity of the piston. The helical track is formed in the exterior surface of the shaft. Water is channeling into the chamber causing the piston to move in a linear direction. A tracking element formed on the piston engages the track and forces the shaft, and thus the head, to rotate. A return mechanism is coupled to the head and engages a valve to control the channeling of the water about the piston, causing the piston to reciprocate. An adjustable valve controls the flow of the water about the piston, and thus the rotational speed of the head.

  • Patent number: 4651925
Abstract: A spray device having a plurality of rotating nozzles directing sprays of a high pressure fluid in a circular pattern against an object being cleaned. The nozzles are mounted on the ends of supply pipes extending radially outwardly from a hub connected to a hollow crankshaft. The crankshaft is connected to a source of high pressure fluid through a supply conduit which is connected to the crankshaft by a rotary union. The rod of a double action piston is connected to the crankshaft and rotates the crankshaft and nozzles upon linear reciprocating movement of the piston rod. The piston cylinder is pivotally mounted on a valve block which has a pair of ball check valves which are actuated by a rocker bar mounted on the cylinder. A small quantity of the high pressure fluid is directed into the valve block from a manifold and is injected alternatively into the ports of the cylinder upon pivotal movement of the cylinder to reciprocate the rod and rotate the crankshaft and connected spray nozzles.

  • Patent number: 4534510
Abstract: An area pattern controlled sprinkler comprises a nozzle rotatably mounted about a vertical axis through the sprinkler and driven by the energy of the water in the pressurized water supply line, a plunger also driven by the pressurized water to restrict and enlarge the nozzle, and a cam member controlling the displacement of the plunger so as to produce a water distribution pattern of predetermined configuration around the sprinkler.

  • Patent number: 4509686
Abstract: A water sprinkler device of the type having a reciprocating or oscillating sprinkler nozzle is provided comprising a novel fluid drive system for the nozzle movement. Water upstream from the spray nozzle is partially diverted to a piston chamber. Water entering the chamber moves a piston in reciprocating movement within the chamber. A rack is connected to the piston to move outside the chamber with the same reciprocating motion as the piston. The rack engages a gear associated with the sprinkler nozzle to impart oscillating rotational movement to the sprinkler nozzle as the rack moves in its reciprocating motion.

  • Patent number: 4344570
Abstract: A forward motion arresting means is added to a fluid powered lance to reduce the harmful effect of the stopping of the lance forward motion. A plug member mounted on the lance mates with a body member within the housing to prevent fluid flow and reduce the lance forward motion. Rearward motion arresting is achieved by the addition of a reservoir portion which acts as a hydraulic stop in conjunction with the lance piston.

  • Patent number: 4335853
Abstract: A linear to rotary motion transmission device comprises a reciprocal rack having a plurality of ratchet teeth engageable with flexible pawls of a rotary pinion. Reciprocation of the rack in one direction causes driving engagement between the pawls and the teeth for rotatably driving the pinion, and reciprocation of the rack in an opposite direction causes the flexible pawls to slide over the ratchet teeth in non-driving engagement.

  • Patent number: 4265403
Abstract: A lawn sprinkler system has a plurality of sprinkler heads connected to a common water supply line. The sprinkling or irrigation, the rate of rotation and the contour of the area sprinkled all are controlled at each sprinkler head. A timer valve associated with a manually adjustable control setting regulates the sprinkling cycle at each head in response to rotation of the head, following which water is bypassed to the next sprinkler head in succession. Further, each sprinkler head contains a rotatable nozzle assembly which is adjustable to provide a spray pattern which will conform to different contours or areas to be sprinkled by each head independently of the other heads in the line in such a way as to afford the greatest possible water efficiency.

  • Patent number: 4019686
Abstract: A sprinkler for watering an area having a specific shape using water subject to an intermittent and regular variation in pressure introduced against a patterned plate positioned in the base of the sprinkler. The plate is situated adjacent to a slotted opening in the lower solid side of a hollow head moveable under water pressure within a cavity formed between the base and a cap of the sprinkler. A nozzle is attached to the upper end of the head to distribute the water passing the restricting window and segment of pattern disposed in its path in the base. Springs are associated with the head to provide a torque to the sprinkler head as the head rises in the cavity under pressure of the water on the lower side of the head. A gear and ratchet is provided on the head to prevent the head from returning to the first position upon reduction of the water pressure and resultant reaction of the springs to return the head to its position of rest within the cavity.
