  • Patent number: 6918548
Abstract: An electronic fuel injector capable of supplying fuel in a stable manner is provided by employing a swirler, which is manufactured at a lower cost and has durability, and by ensuring superior wear resistance of the swirler and a valve member provided on a movable part, which is put into frictional contact with the swirler. The electronic fuel injector comprises a movable part, a valve member, a valve seat, a swirler, a stopper, a stator core, a casing, a spring, and an electromagnetic coil. A valve member is provided at a fore end of the movable part. The swirler serves not only to swirl fuel, but also to guide movement of the valve member provided at the fore end of the movable part. The swirler is formed of a powder sintered compact of martensitic stainless steel having corrosion resistance and wear resistance.

  • Patent number: 6752333
Abstract: A fuel injector, especially a fuel injector for injection systems of internal combustion engines, includes a solenoid which works together with an armature and a valve needle to actuate a valve-closure member, which together with a valve-seat surface forms a sealing seat. A longitudinal axis of the valve needle is inclined by a prescribed angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of a valve housing. The armature is linked with an actuating body whose longitudinal axis is inclined with respect to the longitudinal axis of the valve needle and which acts on the valve needle through a hydraulic device.

  • Patent number: 6749137
Abstract: An electromagnetic fuel injection valve wherein a central pipe part has satisfactory mechanical strength and an intermediate portion of the pipe part is surely made non-magnetic is provided. The electromagnetic fuel injection valve has a core surrounded by a solenoid coil. A valve housing is disposed forward of the core. The core and the valve housing are connected through a thin-walled portion. The wall thickness of the thin-walled portion is smaller than the wall thickness of the core and that of the valve housing. The core and the thin-walled portion, together with the valve housing, are formed in an integral structure. The thin-walled portion has a sufficient wall thickness to provide satisfactory mechanical strength. The thin-walled portion is modified into a high-hardness non-magnetic portion by a carbulizing treatment.

  • Patent number: 6742728
Abstract: An electrical actuator subassembly, preferably for use in a fuel injector, includes an externally threaded ferromagnetic metallic body, an internally threaded collar, an electrical actuator, an electrical connector, and a plastic cap. In one embodiment, the electrical actuator is a solenoid, while a piezoelectric actuator is used in a second embodiment. The electrical actuator directly controls a pilot valve member positioned between the metallic body and the injector body, and a needle valve which opens or closes a nozzle outlet at the bottom of the injector. The electrical actuator subassembly is attached to a fuel injector body by mating the external threads of the metallic body to the internal threads of the collar. The collar is attached to the injector body with a groove and snap ring configuration.

  • Patent number: 6739520
Abstract: A liquid injection apparatus 10 comprises an injection device 15, and an electro-magnetic injection valve 14 for ejecting pressurized fuel into the injection device. An ejection hole in the electro-magnetic injection valve is connected to a hollow cylindrical hermetically sealed space, which in turn is connected to a liquid ejection nozzle, through a liquid filling port, a liquid supply passage, and a chamber which are included in the injection device. By means of allowing the electro-magnetic injection valve to eject the pressurized fuel at an angle of inclination relative to the center axis of the hollow cylindrical hermetically sealed space, flows of fuel are produced across a wide area in the hermetically sealed space so that large-sized air bubbles are prevented from being formed in the hermetically sealed space.

  • Patent number: 6729563
Abstract: A fuel injector for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The fuel injector includes a housing, a valve seat, a metering orifice, and a needle. The housing has an inlet, an outlet, and a longitudinal axis extending therethrough. The valve seat is disposed proximate the outlet and includes a passage having a sealing surface and an orifice. The metering orifice is located at the outlet and has a plurality of metering openings extending therethrough. The needle is reciprocally located within the housing along the longitudinal axis between a first position wherein the needle is displaced from the valve seat, allowing fuel flow past the needle, and a second position wherein the needle is biased against the valve seat, precluding fuel flow past the needle. A generally annular channel is formed between the valve seat and the metering orifice. The channel tapers outwardly from a large height to a smaller height toward the orifice openings.

  • Patent number: 6719224
Abstract: A fuel supply system has a pump, a common rail, and injectors. Pressurized fuel is stored in the common rail. The common rail distributes the fuel to the injectors. A liquid fuel and a liquefied gas fuel such as dimethyl ether and a liquefied petroleum gas may be used as a fuel. In each injector, a valve element is actuated directly by an electromagnetic actuator. The injector has a low pressure chamber for decreasing a biasing force which acts on the valve element in a valve closing direction. The valve element can be divided for replacement. The injector has means for suppressing the bounce of the valve element. A hydraulic unit which utilizes the fuel suppresses the bounce of the valve element. The fuel supply system is connected to a refrigerating cycle. The fuel leaking from the fuel supply system is cooled and again liquefied by the refrigerating cycle.

Abstract: In a fuel injection valve including a flat fuel diffusion chamber provided between a valve seat member and an injector plate to widen radially outwards from an outer end edge of a valve seat bore, an annular step is formed on a ceiling surface of the fuel diffusion chamber so that a level of the ceiling surface is gradually lowered radially outwards, and fuel injection orifices are disposed immediately below the step and at a distance from an inner peripheral wall of the fuel diffusion chamber. Thus, a fuel spread radially in the fuel diffusion chamber is allowed to collide with the annular step, leading to an enhancement in fuel diffusing effect, so that it is possible to further promote the atomization of the fuel injected from the fuel injection orifices and to form more stable fuel spray forms.
