Abstract: A method of making slider end stops on zippers comprising two interlockable profiled closure members. The method comprises the steps of: opening a section of a zipper tape to form a gap between the profiled closure members; inserting a first portion of a body into the gap with a second portion of the body projecting above the tops of the profiled closure members; and joining the first portion of the body to adjoining sections of the profiled closure members. Then the body is narrowed down the middle to form a neck where the zipper tape will later be cut, each half of the body forming a respective slider end stop, but on different zipper segments. Alternatively, two bodies can be inserted into the gap and then joined to adjoining sections of the closure members. The zipper tape is cut between the two bodies, which will ultimately form respective slider end stops on different zipper segments. In an alternative embodiment, the zipper tape and the bag making film can be integrally formed.

Abstract: A slider for use with an elongate closure mechanism includes a retention member protruding into a medial space between an upper pair of opposing interlocking members and a lower pair of opposing interlocking members. The retention members define a gap through which the upper pair of opposing interlocking members cannot pass, and that allows the slider to be slidably shifted along the length of the closure mechanism, thereby maintaining the slider operatively disposed thereon. The retention members may have the form of one or more protrusions disposed on an interior surface of a channel sidewall spaced between a top end of the channel sidewall and a bottom end of the channel sidewall.

Abstract: A device for forming a seal includes upper and lower seal members, and a slider, wherein mating surfaces of the seal members interlock. In at least one embodiment, a lifting rib and closure bar on the slider cooperate with a lifting wing and closure bar groove on the upper and lower seal members, respectively. By moving the slider in one direction, the lifting rib lifts the upper seal member from the lower seal member. Moving the slider in the opposite direction causes the upper and lower seal members to interlock. In another embodiment, a slider has an intermediate lateral member connected on one side the slider top, and connected on the other side to the slider bottom. A breakaway sealing device is also provided, allowing a person to break the closed seal. A beginning stop block is also provided that includes a means for securing the upper seal member.

Abstract: A reclosable package comprises a slider-operated zipper wherein at least one of the zipper parts has a hinged flap to which a marginal portion of a panel of packaging film is joined. The hinged flap swings away from the rest of the zipper part in response to a pulling force tending to pull that zipper part away from the other zipper part. The flap is disposed between a base strip of the zipper part that it forms a part of and a sidewall of the slider. The slider is retained on the zipper by retaining ledges projecting from a distal end of a plow that pries open the zipper during slider travel in an opening direction.

Abstract: A slider for use with interlocking profiles in a reclosable plastic bag is disclosed. The slider includes a rotary device which allows the user to hold the reclosable plastic bag and operate the slider with a single hand. The rotary device can be a thumbwheel which is journaled for rotation about an axis in the side or top of the slider, and can also be a flexible or elastic band which passes through and is retained by slots formed in the slider.

Abstract: A reclosable package comprising a receptacle and an assembly, the assembly comprising a plastic zipper joined to or integrally formed with the receptacle and a slider mounted to the zipper. The zipper comprises first and second interlockable profiled closure members, and a slider end stop projecting outward from a side of the first closure member for a distance sufficient to obstruct further travel of the slider in a closing direction. The slider end stop comprises a body of plastic material joined to the first closure member, the body being disposed near one end of the zipper and entirely within an elevational range bounded by top and bottom edges of the first closure member.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to the use of coextruded or integral sealing ribs on zipper flanges to enhance the quality of the sealing between the flanges and the walls of a reclosable package. The coextruded sealing ribs may be made from sealing resins or similar materials. Additionally, grip strips are placed on the opposite side of the flanges from the ribs in order to improve the quality of the sealing even further and to inhibit inner flange sealing.

Abstract: Various embodiments of a press-to-open zipper for reclosable packages are disclosed. In a first embodiment, extensions are formed obliquely on the consumer side the zipper profiles and are squeezed together to separate the zipper profiles and open the package. In a second embodiment, arched portions are formed on the product side of the zipper profile. These arched portions are squeezed together to separate the zipper profiles and open the package. In a third embodiment, one of the zipper profiles includes a rounded portion with a semi-circular cross section upon which interlocking elements are formed. By squeezing together the zipper profiles by the edges thereof, the profiles rotate with respect to each other about the rounded portion so as to release the interlocking of the interlocking elements and open the package.

Abstract: A fastener strip, such as would be used in a reclosable container, comprises a sealing member having a plurality of sealing portions configured to engage complementary sealing portions of a complementary fastener strip. At least one sealing portion comprises one or more finger members extending therefrom. The at least one finger member, by engaging a complementary sealing portion of a complementary fastener strip, provides an additional degree of sealing, particularly when the fastener strips are in a partially engaged condition. A slider comprises top and side walls and inwardly facing flanges, preferably at lower ends of the side walls. The inwardly facing flanges define a gap having dimensions such that the sealing members of the opposing fastener strips, and particularly the sealing portion having the at least one finger member and its complementary sealing portion, are urged together to provide an additional degree of sealing, yet not completely interlocking, engagement.

Abstract: The zipper includes flanges which include an oxygen scavenging polymer. The oxygen scavenging polymer can be a co-extruded layer or blended with other polymers. The oxygen scavenging polymer is activated by ultra-violet light prior to installation by a form fill seal apparatus. This zipper is particularly useful in reducing residual oxygen in the packaging of such food products as cheese and meat, thereby extending the shelf life.

Abstract: The invention generally relates to interlocking closure devices including two closure elements arranged to be interlocked over a predetermined length. The closure elements permit the venting of fluids when the closure elements are in their occluded vented position. The closure elements have an occluded closed position which creates a seal and prevents fluids from passing between the interlocking closure elements. The closure fastening device may be utilized with a flexible container and is advantageous in permitting a user to vent excess air from the interior of the flexible container prior to sealing the container.

The profile strips are readily secured to the web without entrapping air between the profile strips and the film web and form an airtight and watertight seal. The interlocking hooks, recesses and protuberances are dimensioned to provide and airtight and watertight seal upon interconnection thereof.

The slider includes a plow that pries apart the zipper sections lying in its path during slider travel in an opening direction; first and second sidewalls disposed on opposite sides of the plow and bounding a slider tunnel, and first and second ledges supported by the plow. The first zipper part passes through a first space between the first sidewall and the plow, while the second zipper part passes through a second space between the second sidewall and the plow. The first ledge is the only portion of the slider that underlies any portion of the first zipper part, while the second ledge is the only portion of the slider that underlies any portion of the second zipper part. Accordingly, the ledges retain the zipper parts with the spaces on the opposing sides of the plow.

The fastener assembly (10) includes a zipper (18) with a seal feature on a web flange (24) extending from an interlocking member (26) of a profile (28) of the zipper (18). The web flange (24) is bent at a lower portion of the web flange (24) upward to the interlocking member (26). At the lower portion, an interior face (32) of the web flange (24) is sealed to an opposite interior face (33) to form a flange seal (31). The bend (35) of the lower portion includes a weakness area (34) which, in concert with the flange seal (31), acts as a barrier and a tamper-evident feature. After the flange seal (31) is initially torn open, the weakness area (34) may be torn open to access the plastic bag (30). A method for making a reclosable plastic bag (30) is also disclosed.

Abstract: There is disclosed a slider for a plastic zipper, including an inside guide which is inserted between a pair of male hook and female hook of a plastic zipper, functions so as to disengage the male hook and female hook from each other by the sliding movement of the slider, is installed on the slider main body rotatably about an axis perpendicular to the plastic zipper, and is capable by the rotation, of being located at a prescribed position where it functions as such or being dislocated from the above prescribed position. The above slider is easily attachable to a plastic zipper at a rate higher than a bag manufacturing rate, and is prevented from falling-off even if a small plastic zipper is formed of a thin film with low strength.

The slider comprises a pair of projections or a single extended projection arranged to project into and travel along the longitudinal channel during slider travel. One closed end of the channel lies in the path of one of the two projections or one end of the extended projection when the slider travels in an opening direction. Abstract: A slider-zipper assembly for reclosable packaging in which separation of the zipper halves occurs in the vertical plane. The package comprises front and rear walls disposed on opposing sides of a vertical plane; first and second zipper parts respectively joined to the first and second walls; and a slider for displacing the first zipper part relative to the second zipper part in a downward direction parallel to the vertical plane. In one embodiment, the slider comprises a top wall, first and second side walls connected to the top wall, and an inclined projection projecting from an inner surface of the second side wall. The projection engages a groove in the vertically displaceable zipper part. The end of the projection nearest to the closing end of the slider is located closer to the top wall than is the other end of the projection. In another embodiment, a projection can be formed on the zipper part that engages an inclined groove formed in the slider.

The bag also includes a slider having a body with having a first edge and a second edge. The slider is movable along the zippered closure. An arm extends from one of the first edge or second edge of the slider body. The arm includes a distal end.

Abstract: A slider device and methods of making. The slider device is for use with a resealable package having a zipper closure, and includes a top wall with first and second ends, a spreader depending from the top wall, a first sidewall with a first hook construction extending therefrom, and a second side wall with a second hook construction extending therefrom. An extended length of profiled material is extruded and can be converted to form individual slider devices. The spreader can be tapered, either in its width or the distance in which is depends from the top wall. These slider devices can be incorporated into resealable packages.
