Abstract: The present invention relates to an electronic assembly that includes an integrated circuit package, a heat sink, and a fastener which connects the heat sink to the integrated circuit package to cool the integrated circuit package. The fastener includes a stem that extends through the heat sink and the integrated circuit package. The fastener further includes a clamp that is connected to one end of the stem and a spring head that is connected to an opposing end of the stem. The spring head includes a first biasing member that extends around the longitudinal axis of the stem to compress the heat sink and the integrated circuit package against the clamp in order to reduce the thermal impedance between the heat sink and the integrated circuit package.

Abstract: A heat sink assembly includes a heat sink (10), a plurality of standoffs (20), and a plurality of springs (40). The heat sink includes a base (12) defining a plurality of through apertures (16). Each standoff includes a head (24), and a body (22) extending through a corresponding through aperture. The springs are placed over the corresponding bodies and located between the heads and the base. The body has a hollow part (26) for fixedly receiving a bolt (45). The hollow part includes an expandable portion (28) at a bottom end thereof, a smooth guiding portion (31) above the expandable portion, and a threaded portion (33) above the guiding portion. The guiding portion guides the bolt in the standoff to facilitate the bolt engaging in the threaded portion. The expandable portions are expanded to thereby combine the heat sink, standoffs and springs as a single unit.

Abstract: A facility for mounting an electronic component includes a first circuit board having of mounting apertures. A mounting element is associated with each aperture, and includes a boss defining a bore. The boss has a first surface contacting a major surface of the first circuit board, and a second surface opposite the first surface. A pin is received in the bore, and has a lower portion protruding from the first surface of the boss and into one of the apertures. The pin's lower portion defines a space to capture a portion of the first circuit board. A fastener connected to the pin may generate compression between the space and the boss to secure the board, and a corner-shaped protrusion on the second surface may constrain the corner periphery of a second board resting on the second surface, with the fastener also securing the second board against the boss.

Abstract: A component attachment apparatus is used for attaching a component in a panel hole of a panel and is formed of a grommet to be inserted into the panel hole to be incapable of rotation, and a pin. The grommet includes an insertion hole, an open part extending outwardly to cross the insertion hole, and a meeting part formed at least one side of the open part along the insertion hole. The pin includes a head part larger than the insertion hole, and a leg part extending from the head part and inserted into the insertion hole of the grommet to be capable of rotation. The leg part has a first catch elastically projecting outward from an outer perimeter of the leg part to couple in the panel hole, and a second catch positioned at a tip of the leg part for preventing escape of the leg part from the insertion hole. When the pin with the leg part is inserted into the insertion hole, the first catch is positioned in the open part to engage the panel.

Abstract: A clip is attached to an insertion part of an object and inserted into an attachment hole formed in an object receiving attachment. The clip is formed of a pair of clamping plates facing each other for receiving therebetween the insertion part of the object and having elasticity for expanding outward. The clamping plates have a plurality of teeth with tips formed on inner surfaces. The tips form a multiple stage pattern across a direction of insertion into the attachment hole to be pressed to the insertion part. Also, coupling arms are provided outside the clamping plates. The coupling arms are coupled into the attachment hole by elasticity at a final position of insertion into the attachment hole after being elastically bent inward upon insertion of the insertion part of the object into the attachment hole.

Abstract: A fastener (50) includes a pin (52), a spring (54) and a handle (56). The pin extends through a heat sink (10). The handle is pivotably attached to a top portion of the pin. The pin has a foot (522) extending through a mother board (30) and a supporting board (40) located under the mother board to engage with the supporting board. A CPU (20) is mounted on the mother board. The spring surrounds the pin and is located between a base of the heat sink and the handle. When the handle is rotated from a horizontal position to a vertical position, the handle compresses the spring toward the foot. The spring in turn presses the base of the heat sink against the CPU.

  • Patent number: 6376776
Abstract: When a sub board is detached from a main board, a movable part is slid toward the main board. At this time, a wedge part of the movable part intrudes between a main part and an engagement part to cause elastic deformation to an extending part of the engagement part, thereby releasing engagement between the engagement part and an engagement receiving part. Even if an operator removes his/her hands from the movable part, the movable part is not displaced away from the main board, and the state in which the engagement part is disengaged from the engagement receiving part is thus maintained. Consequently, after sliding the movable part to release the engagement between the engagement part and the engagement receiving part, the operator can proceed to the next operation of pulling out the sub board.
