Abstract: A process and system for producing sterilized shredded material such as mulch or compost introduces a sterilant during a grinder stage for forming the shredded material, wherein the sterilant is presented by introduction with water via a spray bar at the grinder stage. The grinder stage may have a preliminary first (initial) grinder stage. The process may include shearing wood parts to a uniform size prior to the first grinder stage. The resulting shredded material can be irradiated or subjected to external heat. Testing of the resulting output shredded material can be conducted to determine the presence of mold spores, or the like and, if found, for redirecting the shredded material to the grinder stage associated with the sterilant.

Abstract: A fluid-energy mill for size reduction of a material includes a manifold defining a grinding chamber having a first radius extending from a center of the grinding chamber, a gas inlet, a feed inlet, and an outlet. The feed inlet is positioned such that the material enters the grinding chamber tangent to a second radius extending from the center and larger than the first radius. The fluid-energy mill includes a cover for enclosing the grinding chamber. The manifold defines a non-circular groove around the grinding chamber, and a seal is positioned within the groove. The grinding chamber is cycloid-shaped. The manifold defines a protective pocket and a barrier at a region where the material enters the grinding chamber. The feed inlet includes a feed gas inlet, a material funnel, and a venturi. An intersection of the feed gas inlet and the material funnel form an elliptical hole. The feed inlet is oriented at an angle of about 30 degrees or more to a horizontal.

Abstract: A mobile slurry apparatus for creating a slurry from oil sand ore has a frame and a slurry box supported by the frame. Water is mixed with the ore to form a slurry that is retained in the slurry box. The frame base has a first set of spaced apart support points for supporting the frame in a stationary mode, and a second set of spaced apart support points for supporting the frame in a moving mode. The second set of spaced apart support points is closer together than the first set of support points and defines a lifting region disposed beneath a centre of gravity of the slurry apparatus in a moving mode when the slurry box is empty. Thus, a single moving device can be positioned beneath the second set of support points for lifting and moving the slurry apparatus.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device for granulation of an ejected material form at least one nozzle (7), in particular a thermoplastic plastic, with a perforated plate (2) comprising the nozzles (7). A blade head (10), supporting several blades (11) lies opposite the same, fixed to a shaft (9) which is rotatably driven by a motor (13). The motor (13) is suspended such as to be displaced relative to the housing (1) by means of a suspension (15), however the above is suspended in such a manner that displacement is only possible in the direction of the axis (8) of the shaft (9) and not in a radial direction. Said suspension (15) comprises at least one membrane (14) which suspends the motor (13) on the granulator housing (1). The motor (13) can be adjusted relative to the perforated plate (2) by means of an adjuster device (27), such that the desired pressure of the blade on the perforated plate (2) is maintained. The excised granulate particles are drawn out of the housing (1) by means of coolant.

Abstract: A shrouded attrition nozzle for use in fluidized bed jet attrition. The nozzle comprises a shroud surrounding the nozzle and extending upwardly from the nozzle tip. The shroud is sized so as not to interfere with the periphery of the jet emitted from the nozzle and may be cylindrical or inverted frustoconical in shape. When a desired spacing is achieved between the periphery of the jet and the shroud, fluidizable material enters the interior of the shroud from the open end, moving countercurrently towards the nozzle tip. A disengagement of fluidization gas from fluidizable material occurs and an increased entrainment of solids in the jet leads to improvements in grinding efficiency. The result is a reduction in jet flowrate and fluidization gas wastage, which reduces overall energy requirements for attrition. A method of causing attrition of a fluidizable material using the shrouded nozzle is also disclosed.

Abstract: An apparatus and process for naturally recycling poultry carcasses for use as a nutritional supplement, the apparatus generally consists of four modules: an enzymatic digest medium mixing assembly that self adjusts for pH; a mobile grinding assembly mounted on a truck trailer; a digesting and emulsifying assembly which includes a heated tank and separator; and a drying system. Carcasses are loaded into the grinder, and the ground carcasses are pumped into a storage tank with the enzymatic digest medium to produce a protein soluble mixture. The particle size of this mixture is then further reduced, and transported to a centralized and stationary processing plant for digesting and emulsifying. The remaining emulsified proteins are then dried. The resulting pellet-like pieces are uniformly sized for packaging.
