Temperature Modification Of Comminuting Member Patents (Class 241/66)
  • Patent number: 4401277
Abstract: The disclosure relates to apparatus for producing mechanical wood pulp of the type having a grinding stone with at least one wood supply chute in which the wood which is to be ground is pressed onto the grinding stone. A trough or a collecting channel is placed underneath the grinding stone. A water supply device moistens the grinding stone at the grinding zone. At least one closed water tank is set up on the grinding stone in front of the wood supply chute, viewed in the direction of rotation of the grinding stone. The water tank is sealed at least on the side furthest away from the supply chute. The tank has a supply line for pressurized water and has outlet holes directed toward the surface of the stone. Preferably, sealing of the water tank is effected by a sealing plug at the grinding stone which plug is adjustable with respect to the grinding stone to accommodate wear of the plug from the stone.

  • Patent number: 4371119
Abstract: An agitator-type ball mill has a circumferential wall which bounds a working chamber having an axis and includes two radially spaced jackets which form therebetween a gap for receiving a heat-exchange medium. The jackets are releasably connected with one another so that they can be separated from each other by displacement in an axial direction. A flexible member is arranged in the gap between the jackets, connected with one of the jackets, and forms a substantially helical passage in the gap. The heat exchange medium flows through the thus-formed helical gap. The flexible member may be formed by a band which is inserted in a helical groove provided in one jacket and extends radially into the gap so as to abut against the other jacket with prestress.

  • Patent number: 4277235
Abstract: In a process and plant for producing cool sintered particulate agglomerated solids of ore, the solids are moved in a continuous stream through a heat-treating zone to form a layer of the agglomerated solids and hot particles thereof are obtained from the layer. The hot particles are moved in a continuous stream into a structurally separate cooler which is heat-insulated from the heat-treating zone and through the cooler in a cooling path. Cooling air is blown into the cooler to flow countercurrently to the continuous stream of hot particles in the cooling path to subject the hot particles to forced countercurrent cooling whereby the cooling air is heated by contact with the hot particles and the entire heated cooling air is delivered into the heat-treating zone.

  • Patent number: 4257563
Abstract: The disclosure concerns both a process and an apparatus for producing wood pulp. Wood to be pulped is fed into a housing where the wood is ground. The housing is pressurized above atmospheric pressure. Water at a temperature over 100.degree. C. is fed to the pressurized housing in the grinding zone. The wood pulp produced by grinding is collected and is conveyed through a worm conveyor which causes the water in the pulp to be removed therefrom, while the pulp and the water removed therefrom are maintained at elevated pressure. The water under pressure is returned to the grinding zone in the housing. The wood pulp is thereafter returned to atmospheric pressure. Various pressure lock devices for transmitting the wood pulp from being under pressure to atmospheric pressure are disclosed including a nozzle, a pressure lock device, a hydrocyclone and/or a disc refiner.

  • Patent number: 4201346
Abstract: A device for crushing sinter and other material of like consistency is disclosed wherein the flow sinter material is deployed against an impact table which directs the sinter material downward onto a series of vertically disposed discs fixed to a common means of rotation. The common means of rotation intersects each disc through its central axis. Adjacent to the discs and parallel to the common means of rotation is positioned a shaft upon which are mounted crusher means arranged to intersect and pass between the discs. As sinter is directed downward onto the discs, the crusher means rotates and forces the sinter between the discs, thus crushing it. Heat buildup in the discs is controlled by a means of cooling which impinges on the discs.

Abstract: A blower beater mill for grinding and drying operations in which a rotor is provided with a beater portion located on the mill shaft and has also a fan impeller. Beater arms of a beater portion are fastened between hub rings of the mill shaft. The shaft is water-cooled along its longitudinal axis. Shaft crests of the hub rings are enclosed by a jacket at a spaced distance therefrom. The jacket is made of individual rings through which the beater arms pass. The width of these rings is slightly larger than the spacing between two adjacent rows of beater arms. The rings, moreover, overlap in the area of cutouts of the beater arms. The rings may have U-shaped profiles with vertical legs inserted together with the beater arms into grooves between the hub rings. The space between two adjacent U-shaped rings and two adjacent beater arms, located within one beater arm row, is covered by sheet metal connected to the rings and the beater arms.

  • Patent number: 3935808
Abstract: A method and apparatus for milling grain while simultaneously cooking the grain in which the grain is introduced between coaxial relatively rotatable grinding members and advances therebetween while being milled. The milling of the grain develops heat in the grain which converts the moisture therein to steam which effects cooking of the grain. Most, if not all, of the steam thus generated is reabsorbed by the milled grain as it emerges from the apparatus. In order to enhance the cooking effect on the grain, the outer one of the conical grinding members has a heated gaseous medium supplied thereto and the mill includes an impeller for forcing the gaseous medium through the inner one of the grinding members so that both of the grinding members are heated and thereby enhance the cooking of the grain being milled in the apparatus.
