  • Patent number: 6848638
Abstract: Improved apparatus and methods for making substantially crisp, clean, uniform cuts or slices from fibrous foodstuffs using a motorized food processing device with a unique cutting assembly, such that the foodstuffs are supported by the cutting assembly in a manner that lessens the potential for pulverization of the foodstuffs upon cutting. The invention can include a rotary cutting assembly having a rotary cutting blade and a blade spacer. The cutting blade can include a first cutting edge extending radially from a central portion of the rotary cutting blade. The blade spacer can include an opening adjacent to the first cutting edge of the blade for cut foodstuffs to pass through. The opening can also include a peripheral edge, a portion of which can be substantially aligned with the first cutting edge. The rotary cutting blade and blade spacer can be coupled to a rotatable hub, which can be adapted to engage a drive motor to rotate the rotary cutting assembly.

  • Patent number: 6536692
Abstract: An apparatus and method for shredding a block of material, the apparatus includes at least one cutting blade. A drive unit rotates the cutting blade about an axis, and a feed unit moves the block of material toward the cutting blade. The axis about which the cutting blade is rotated is generally perpendicular to the direction in which the block of material is being fed. In one embodiment, the block of material comprises a plurality of ribbons, the ribbons being stacked atop each other. In one preferred embodiment, the cutting blade comprises a serrated edge, and the distance between the teeth in the serrated edge is less than the thickness of each ribbon.

Abstract: This fiber chopper overcomes the disadvantages of the previous cutting rollers for chopping continuous filaments. The apparatus includes a means for feeding continuous fibers through apertures in a fixed head. Rotating blades engage the continuous fiber and chops them into discrete fiber lengths. In another embodiment, a rotating chopping disc with cutting apertures therethrough replaces the fixed head and rotating blades. The cutting apertures have sharp edges for chopping the continuous fibers.

Abstract: A safety device for a food processor having a bowl closed by a cover and fed through a chute for introducing products into the working bowl, has a control switch responsive to the position of a pusher guide carrying a pusher. The pusher is slidably mounted for translation in the pusher-guide. The pusher-guide is pivotally mounted to cover over the open end of the chute, and a set of rods connect the pusher-guide to the switch operating safety rod extending along the bowl. The device prevents access of the user's hand to the cutting area, even for a large chute, by blocking the chute when the motor is enabled.

Abstract: A wood chipping method and a disc chipper provided with knives (4). The chips (11), after having separated from a log (3), pass through a chip opening (12) in the disc (1) and hit an impact surface (10) located after a knife. Along different portions of the knife (4), a stronger impact effect is caused in proximity to the centre than in proximity to the outer periphery of the disc. The direction of the impact surface (10) deviates more from the direction of the rear surface (15) of the knife in proximity to the centre of the disc than in proximity to the outer periphery of the disc. The distance of the connecting line between the rear surface (15) of the knife and the impact surface (10) from the cutting edge (16) of the knife can be longer on the outer periphery of the disc than in the centre of the disc.
