Machinery Support Patents (Class 248/637)
  • Patent number: 4634091
Abstract: The invention uses a laser frame which has a central opening about its sensing axis. There is a structural support member in the shape of two substantially conical frustums attached together at their largest diameter portions, with their axes coaxial, and attached to the periphery of the central opening of the frame. The support member is slotted with axially and radially directed slots to form therebetween axially and radially directed struts. The struts have surfaces at their smallest diameter portions for attachment to a post member. The angles of the frustums and the struts are such that when the support member is attached to a post member, thermal expansion of such post member would produce substantially pure bending of the struts.

  • Patent number: 4492356
Abstract: A precision parallel translation system including a pair of tables or upper and lower tables movable parallel to and in directions perpendicular to each other, and a pair of drive means for rough movement each detachably connected to one of the tables to drive the respective table for movement a relatively long distance. Each table supports drive means for fine movement detachably connected to a base (which is the lower table in the case of the upper table) supporting the respective table. The table is moved a relatively long distance by the drive means for rough movement when rough movement is effected, to effect rough positioning of the table. Then the drive means for fine movement is secured to the base while detaching the drive means for rough movement from the table, to drive the table for fine movement to effect precision positioning of the table.

  • Patent number: 4488701
Abstract: A structure for mounting a housing, such as the housing of a hydraulic cylinder, on a support plate or panel by a simple manual push and twist motion exerted on the housing. The support plate or panel, such as the floorboard or bulkhead of a motor vehicle, is provided for example with a generally square opening, and the housing has a generally cylindrical mounting portion provided on one side with a circular flange of an outer diameter larger than the largest dimension of the square opening, and on its other side provided, for example, with a substantially square flange dimensioned such as to pass freely through the square opening. A resilient gasket is installed between the two flanges and is compressed such as to permit rotation of the housing for disposing the corners of the square flange in a locked position in engagement with rear surface areas of the plate or panel adjacent each straight side of the square opening.

  • Patent number: 4475184
Abstract: Vibration limiting apparatus for use in supporting devices sensitive to vibration embodies an outer supporting container. A vibration dampening liquid within the outer container dampens vibrations transmitted between the outer container and an inner buoyant member. The inner buoyant member supports the vibration sensitive device and floats freely within the outer container. Oppositely disposed magnets mounted on adjacent surfaces of the inner buoyant member and the outer supporting container urge the inner buoyant member toward a position so that it is supported by the dampening liquid in spaced relation to the adjacent inner surfaces of the outer container.

  • Patent number: 4414824
Abstract: In order to use a common module cryogenic cooler with two different types thermal nights, an adapter plate is required for mounting the cooler to the sights. The plate has its two opposite sides differently machined to fit against the walls of corresponding sights, and has a central opening for a cooler mounting flange. For one sight, one side of the adapter is screwed to the sight wall and the cooler flange is inserted in the central opening. For the other sight, the other side of the adapter is inserted into a recess in the sight wall, and is retained by a retainer plate screwed to the wall. The cooler flange is inserted into the adapter plate central opening through a hole in the retainer plate.

  • Patent number: 4395198
Abstract: A support structure for a hydraulic turbine is disclosed where the turbine has a generally horizontal drive shaft enclosed within a bulb housing. The housing is contained within a hydraulic passage formed by duct walls within the structures foundation. A structural inner stay cone is provided in the bulb housing perpendicular to the axis of the drive shaft. An outer stay cone is provided in the duct wall coplanar with the inner stay cone. A pair of vertical stay columns extend from the bottom of the outer vane to the top of the outer stay cone while passing through and affixed to the inner stay cone. The stay columns are perpendicular to the drive shaft with the shaft extending between the two stay columns. Vertical piers abutting the stay columns extend from the duct wall to the housing both above and beneath the housing.
