The blocks may release from the mold and fall onto the collection surface. If any blocks remain in the mold, a plunger mechanism is pushed against the sagging mold to release the blocks. Guide members may facilitate positioning the blocks on the collection surface.

Simultaneously with expanding the bellows part, a step of pushing the substantially rigid open end of the bellows part by the stripper rod causes the resilient portion and resilient open end to be stripped off the core pin. Finally, the substantially rigid open end of the bellows part is ejected from the stripper rod.

    Abstract: An ejector is coated with a thin, hard, low friction, lubricous coating for use in a mold to eject molded articles from the mold without the use of liquid lubricants. The preferred ejector has a thin, low friction, coefficient coating with a thickness on the order of 0.00004 inch to 0.0001 inch. This coating provides long lasting, dry lubrication for low friction reciprocation of the ejector within a bore in the mold. The thin lubricous coating allows the ejector to be inventoried and sold in nominal sizes and cut down to the desired size by the mold builder to suit a specific application, and the cut ends are then deburred by the mold builder and finish ground to size, with the lubricous coating remaining intact at the cut end of the ejector. The coating is so thin that the nominal size of the ejector is essentially unchanged. The very thin coating does not chip or flake at the cut end, as would result in cavities into which the plastic could flow and form flashing on the plastic part being molded.

    Abstract: A compact core and ejector assembly includes an elongate core terminating in a male mold component and including a cylindrical shoulder which supports the top plate of an associated core support frame. The shoulder includes opposing, longitudinally-extending slots which receive jaw elements, which are pivotally mounted on a reciprocating knock out plate, and therefore guide the jaw elements during the ejection procedure.     Abstract: An injection molding apparatus is disclosed for forming articles with internal undercuts by the use of lifter heads with transversely extending protrusions. The lifter heads are received in recesses in the mold projections which form the interior of the molded article. The transverse protrusions of the lifter heads extend into the voids surrounding the projections to form the undercuts. The lifter heads are extended outwardly from the projections to remove the article from the mold. Ejector pins move the molded article outwardly from the lifter heads. The lifter head protrusions have inward ramping surfaces which facilitate the removal of the molded article. A lifter head may include two, angularly offset protrusions which form two undercuts near the corner between intersecting internal walls of the molded article. The protrusions have beveled release surfaces which allow the molded article to shift transversely off the lifter heads.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a mold with gas ejection of pieces formed in the mold. The mold includes a female body part and a male body part. The male body part includes a male molding surface with a surrounding plastic injection shut off face and a reciprocable gas controlling blow off pin slideably trapped within a pin recess at the shut off face. The pin has an enlarged bottom portion and a narrowed upper portion with a gas passage starting upwardly through the lower bottom portion into the upper portion and opening sideways through the pin which has a solid top surface above the sideways opening. The pin receiving recess has an undercut configuration including a small diameter upper region and a larger diameter base region with clearance for sliding of the pin in the recess. The clearance is at a minimum near the solid top surface of the pin and increases downwardly from the upper to the lower portion of the pin.

    Abstract: A slide retainer for an injection mold tool with positive locking, recessed mounting, and guide bar capabilities. The retainer includes a track channel insert rigidly mounted in the base plate of an injection mold tool and a cooperating cylindrical insert mounted for rotational movement in the slide. The channel insert may be extended outwardly from the base plate to serve secondarily as the slide guide bar. The cylindrical insert includes an eccentrically mounted track pin and a torsional spring thereby biasing the track pin for rotation movement. The channel insert includes a circumferential heart-shaped channel that defines an island in the middle thereof. The track pin extends into the channel and traverses the circumferential path once during each mold cycle. A unidirection flapper gate is provided to route the pin through the channel in the proper direction. Slide retention and locking are achieved when the track pin is oriented in the indented portion at the top of the heart-shaped channel.

The knock-out pin is connected to a pneumatic piston which is urged by biasing means to a stop such that the knockout pin is positioned flush with the inner wall of the molding surface or cavity during injection of plastic or other molding material into the tool. The side of the molding plate opposite the molding surface is characterized by at least one pneumatic channel between the piston and its intersection with a complimentary pneumatic channel in a backing plate. The latter is perforated by a pneumatic orifice for connection of the system to the external pneumatic pressure source.

    Abstract: An independent-stroke ejection system for an injection molding apparatus enables the motion of an ejector pin, or pins, to be controlled independently of the motion of the knock-out plates. The so-called independent-stroke ejector pin is mounted on an independent-stroke knock-out pin retainer rod which is alternately locked to and unlocked from the reciprocating motion of the knock-out plates. As a consequence, the independent-stroke ejector pin moves only during a portion of the reciprocating cycle of the knock-out plates, and does not advance and retract over an equivalent distance. While ejector pins are usually mounted on the knock-out plates, and reciprocate over an equivalent distance, the present invention enables one to uncouple the motion of an ejector pin from the knock-out plates for a portion of the reciprocating cycle.
