  • Patent number: 5916406
Abstract: A branch pipe liner bag and a pipe lining method are provided for ensuring to securely joining a flange and a main pipe liner bag to provide a reliable integrated structure. The branch pipe liner bag comprises a tubular resin-absorbent material impregnated with an unhardened hardenable resin. The tubular resin-absorbent material is formed at one end thereof with a rigid flange which is formed with a plurality of bores. In the pipe lining method using the branch pipe liner bag, a portion of unhardened hardenable resin oozing from a main pipe liner bag enters the bores formed through the flange of the branch pipe liner bag and is hardened therein, so that the flange is securely joined with the main pipe liner bag, thereby preventing a gap from being formed therebetween. In addition, the bores may be arranged on concentric circles on the flange, and cords made of a resin-absorbent material may be passed through the bores along the inner or outer periphery of the flange.

  • Patent number: 5888439
Abstract: A unitary or one-piece acoustical cabinet grille frame and a method for making the one-piece grille frame. In the unitary acoustical cabinet grille frame a sound-transmissible fabric is integrally bonded or fused to serrations in a slot within the shaped plastic face. In the method for manufacturing the one-piece acoustical cabinet grille frame, a sound-transmissible fabric is placed over a shaped plastic face. A heated fusion blade having the configuration of the slot is placed over the sound-transmissible fabric. The fabric is forced into contact with the plastic serrations in the slot and the plastic serrations are plasticated or melted. The sound-transmissible fabric is then fused with the plastic. Finally, the heated fusion blade is removed from the slot and the plastic is allowed to cool.

  • Patent number: 5695704
Abstract: Provided is a method for crimping a thermoplastic member which allows a first member made of thermoplastic resin to be mounted on a second member at a high mounting strength without complicating the fabrication process and without causing any reduction in the production efficiency. After an entire portion of the first member that is to be crimped is thermally melted or softened, the portion is deformed and crimped by using a crimping die having a die surface which is at a temperature lower the melting point of the thermoplastic resin. Therefore, the deformed portion is given with a uniform internal structure free from internal defects such as cracks and interfaces. Because the interior of the crimped portion remains to be hot as compared to the surface portion which is in contact with the crimping die during the crimping process, a certain pattern of internal stress is produced in the internal part which opposes the internal stress of the surface portion as the deformed portion cools and contracts.

  • Patent number: 5363628
Abstract: A thermal barrier apparatus and process for fabricating same, wherein the apparatus provides insulation between two or more juxtaposed frame members which may be simultaneously exposed to different temperatures and environmental conditions. A stretchable attachment strip, which is stretched to a reduced insertion shape, is at least partially inserted within corresponding strip acceptance channels of the two or more juxtaposed frame members. After the attachment strip has been properly inserted, there is a recovery step during which the stretched attachment strip recovers back towards a recovered restraining shape which not only binds the juxtaposed frame members together, but which also results in a contiguous but thermally broken profile.

  • Patent number: 5336351
Abstract: A flexible pipe connector is disclosed for connecting to a hard plastic pipe. The flexible pipe connector, preferably made of polyethylene, has a tubing member which defines a cylindrical wall with inner and outer surfaces, the cylindrical wall having a male end which has a plurality of undercuts formed on the outer surface. The male end with the undercuts is inserted into the female end of a hard plastic pipe with a solvent weld glue applied at the inner surface thereof. The solvent weld glue liquifies the inner surface of the pipe's female end to form a liquified layer of hard plastic which is received in the male end's undercuts and then hardens into a reconfigured solid layer. In this manner, the flexible pipe connector, which is inert and normally cannot be attached with glue to a hard plastic pipe, can be sealably secured to a hard plastic pipe as the liquified layer solidifies within the undercuts to prevent separation of the pipe connector and the hard plastic pipe and to provide a seal therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5329686
Abstract: A novel slide test element and method of making are described. Both feature a lip coined in the sidewall of a recess shaped in a frame member to hold the reaction member bearing the detecting reagents. The lip then overhangs the reaction member, once assembled. Assembly occurs by bending the frame member with the lip facing outwardly, thus forcing the lip to part a distance sufficient to allow the reaction member to be inserted. An optional stacking and fusing procedure is also described to facilitate shipment of frame members prior to assembly.

Abstract: The present invention provides a new and improved method for manufacturing vehicle interior trim panels such as door panels and instrument panels in which different regions of the trim panel have different colors or other aesthetic characteristics. Two pieces of sheet vinyl having the desired color or other aesthetic characteristic desired in the manufactured trim panel are cut to shape and then bonded together edge-to-edge to form a composite two-tone vinyl sheet. This composite vinyl sheet is draped over a mold having a blade projecting from the mold surface. A retainer is installed onto the backside of the composite vinyl sheet to attach the composite vinyl sheet to the blade and thereby hold the vinyl in place with the bond between the two sheets located at the apex of the blade. The mold is closed and urethane is poured against the backside of the composite vinyl sheet to encapsulate the retainer.
