After the closing of the mould cavity, an additional mould part (14) is moveable relative to the mould cavity. In order to reduce the volume thereof, until the plastics material fills the mould cavity completely. Consequently the invention ensures that when compression moulding in the mould cavity, the closure cap and in particular also the thinner section (19) are formed completely in the mould provided.

Abstract: A tubular dispensing container has a head whose shoulder is joined to a tubular body. The head and shoulder can be thin because they are provided with a plurality of ribs that extend axially from the neck to the lower end of the shoulder and rigidify the head. A head for a tubular dispensing container is provided having the above-mentioned ribs. Apparatus for forming the head has male or female tooling with axially grooves formed therein to form the ribs on the inside or outside surface of the head. Methods involve flowing moldable material along the grooves to provide the lower end of the shoulder of the head with enough moldable material at elevated temperature and pressure to form a good bond of the shoulder with the tubular body.

Abstract: A closure assembly is provided that includes an outer cap with a skirt dimensioned to telescope over the open top end of the tube. An annular shoulder extends inwardly from the top end of the skirt and includes an aperture through which a needle may be directed. A laminated seal is bonded to the bottom surface of the annular shoulder of the outer cap and extends continuously across the aperture in the annular shoulder. A stopper is secured on the bottom surface of the annular seal and is dimensioned for sealing engagement in the open top of the tube. Outer circumferential portions of the bottom surface of the laminated seal between the skirt and the stopper are bonded to the open top end of the tube. The bond between the closure and the laminated seal is stronger than the bond between the tube and the laminated seal. Thus, the closure assembly retains its structural integrity after opening of the tube and can be used to reseal the tube.

Abstract: A method for insert-molding a plural color film laminate part and part made by the method. The method comprises preforming a film laminate and subsequently insert-molding a plastic substrate against the preformed film laminate. An improvement in traditional insert molding techniques is provided by use of a specific mold cavity structure which facilitates positioning of the film laminate transition line(s) between colors within longitudinally extending groove(s) in the part show face. According to one embodiment, the film laminate is preformed with a re-entrant edge portion which is positioned within the mold cavity such that the edge of the plastic substrate will be substantially covered. The insert molding step involves positioning the preformed film laminate in a specially configured mold cavity, closing the mold and injecting molten resin into the mold cavity against the film laminate.

Abstract: A dual component molding assembly for packaging hot melt adhesives wherein a mold, preferably in the form of an open top pan, includes a cavity which is lined with a thin film of plastic material. The second component is a carrier for the mold and is also preferably in the form of an open top pan. The carrier also includes a cavity for receiving the mold, and functions not only to support the mold when nested therein, but also to act as a heat sink to effectively and rapidly remove, dissipate or absorb the heat from molten adhesive dispensed into the mold. After filling the mold with a mass of adhesive, the exposed open top surface of the adhesive is covered with a second layer of thin film of plastic material which is then sealed to the first film lining the interior of the mold.
