  • Patent number: 6524519
Abstract: A molding method and a mold therefor capable of forming a doll head of a shape exactly conforming to a mold by blow molding using a safe molding material. A split mold (2, 3) which has an inner surface formed to have a configuration conforming to a shape of a doll head (17) is so arranged that a parting line (18) formed by mold members (2, 3) of the split mold may be formed on a hairline of the hair of the doll head (17) or in proximity thereto. A molding material is constituted by a thermoplastic synthetic resin elastomer as a main ingredient thereof and has a plasticizer and a coloring agent added thereto. The molding material is heated and then dropped in as a parison (15) between the mold members (2, 3) of the split mold spaced from each other. Then, the mold members (2, 3) of the split mold are joined together and air is blown into the split mold. Air is removed through at least one projection such as a nose (5) or the like from a cavity during blowing of air into the split mold (2, 3).

  • Patent number: 6500379
Abstract: A method for fabricating synthetic-material molded parts through extrusion blow molding, produces sharp-edged, strong contours and/or undercuts in the region of break-throughs. A synthetic-material tube introduced into the blow-molding die is initially widened by pneumatic pressure, shaped and held on smooth or slightly contoured surfaces of the blow-molding die. However, strong, sharp-edged contours are shaped by mechanical pressure exercised on an outer surface of the synthetic-material tube by a shaping tool. A device for carrying out the process has a blow-molding die with a wall in which shaping slides are guided in one or more parts that can be guided in the interior of the blow-molding die and have sliding parts which can be driven independently of each other or in synchronism.

  • Patent number: 6435856
Abstract: The invention relates to blow molding of an article having an inwardly projecting hollow boss with a closed end. A portion of a molten parison conforms to the shape of a fixed pin projecting from the face of a mold part to thereby form the hollow boss. The invention includes an apparatus comprising a reciprocable sleeve slidably received within the mold part over the pin. It has been found that by blow molding the parison with the sleeve initially extended with its end substantially flush with the end of the pin, followed by retracting the sleeve to a retracted position after a predetermined delay time, a boss with a thicker end results. Consequently, the boss end has greater structural integrity, and thus minimizes or eliminates the possibility of penetration and/or cracking of the boss end when a screw is threadedly received in the hollow boss.

  • Patent number: 6277321
Abstract: A wide-mouth, hot-fill plastic container having pinch-grips and a high push-up base and method for forming the same. According to the method, a preform is positioned in a mold cavity defined in part by surfaces which deviate substantially inward to form pinch-grips in the resulting container. Initially, a mold base is located so that it defines an initial mold cavity whose length is greater than the final length of the container. The preform is axially stretched in the cavity to a length greater than the containers final length. After stretching the preform, the preform is generally expanded radially outward under low pressure. The mold bottom is then moved to a position where the length of the cavity is about the same as the final length of the container. The preform is further expanded under high pressure such that it contacts the molding halves thereby forming the finished container.

The second insert member is reciprocally movable in said channel and engages the center ring member. The movement of the second insert member is synchronized with respect to the first insert member to move at a speed that is at least half the speed of the first insert.

  • Patent number: 5202078
Abstract: An apparatus for producing blow-molded containers having thickened flanges. The apparatus utilizes major mold halves and a plurality of minor mold elements disposed within the mold halves to form containers having thickened flanges. The minor mold elements move radially relative to the mold halves and the joined pair of containers. While the blow-molded material is still moldable, the minor mold elements move radially inward to fold and bond the material onto itself, forming a pair of thickened radial flanges on each container. The flanges are each substantially twice as thick as a single layer of blow-molded material. Longitudinally-oriented reinforcing ribs are formed at the interstices of the minor mold elements which link the two thickened flanges and further strength the containers.

  • Patent number: 5198174
Abstract: A method for producing a plastic product including an axially extending portion, such as a duct or pipe, and a radially extending portion, such as a flange or bracket. A parison is placed in a first mold cavity defined in a mold and blow molded to form the axially extending portion, and then a movable mold segment is moved to a retracted position to define a second mold cavity adjacent to a part of an outer peripheral surface of the axially extending portion thus formed. Then, a second molted plastic material is supplied into the second mold cavity and the movable mold segment is again moved to another predetermined position to pressurize the second plastic material to thereby form a radially extending portion. The resulting hollow plastic product is extremely high in structural integrity between the axially and radially extending portions.

  • Patent number: 5106569
Abstract: A molding apparatus and method are adapted to mold an article having a hollow blow molded portion and a substantially solid compression molded portion. Defined within a mold is at least a first cavity portion and a second cavity portion. A parison is positioned within the mold and blow gas is injected into the interior of the parison to inflate the parison within each of the cavity portions. A compression member is then moved from a retracted position within a recess in the mold to an extended position outside of such recess. The compression member presses a first portion of the parison against the mold interior surface which defines the first cavity portion so as to compression mold a first portion of the parison. Inflation of a second portion of the parison in the second cavity portion accomplishes blow molding of such second parison portion.

Abstract: An expandable section plastic tube having utility, for example, in inflatable balloon section catheters, and a method of making the same. The tube formed of thermoplastic material is inserted in a wall defining member, such as a mold, having an enlarged section surrounding a portion of the tube.
