Abstract: A mold core with a plurality of tension springs is placed in a mold box such that the top of the mold core is even with the top of the mold box when the plurality of tension springs have no tension. Block mix including a substantial amount of compressible material is poured into the mold and lightly vibrated. A movable bottom plate then moves downward at the same time as the mold core is moved downward a first distance to stretch the plurality of tension springs. After the mold core is moved downward the first distance, the movement of the mold core stops while the movement of the movable plate continues downward, thereby ejecting the partial block element from the mold. Block elements are cured, then glued together to form a complete block. One or both of the exterior surfaces of the block may have a wooden attachment layer attached.

Abstract: A resin infusion system uses a housing that has an upper flexible diaphragm and a lower flexible diaphragm such that the two diaphragms form a cavity. A fiber reinforcement mat is positioned within the cavity. A mold is positioned below the lower diaphragm. A flow plate has a series of V-shaped grooves and is positioned either underneath the lower diaphragm or overtop the upper diaphragm so that the grooves press into the respective diaphragm. A vacuum is created within the housing causing resin to be drawn into the cavity with the resin interacting with the grooves increasing the turbulence of the resin flow. Once the reinforcement mat is properly wetted, the mold is pressed into the lower diaphragm.

Abstract: A manufacturing method for producing building material is provided. More particularly, a processing method for a waste residue produced by burning and desulfurizing oil dregs in oil refining is provided. The main raw material in the method is waste residue produced by burning and desulfurizing oil dregs, including fly ash and bottom dregs. Dilute sulfuric acid solution is added to the main raw material as the additive. The amount of additive is dependent upon the content of CaO in the main raw material and the concentration of the dilute sulfuric acid solution. The post-reaction materials can be used to produce bricks and brickwork. Therefore, the method provides for recovery of excess process materials, i.e., oil dregs, by utilizing the process materials to form building materials which process material would otherwise be placed in a landfill.

Agglomerates, made by feeding wet chopped fiber strand segments into a wave chamber having a vibrating curved surface supporting a curved, dimpled liner working surface have improved density and flow characteristics compared with dry chopped strands, but it was discovered that the dimpled liner flexes during operation during vibration causing undesirable variation in properties like agglomerate size. In the invention the dimpled liner is backed up with a substantially non-compressible material and this results in agglomerates that have even better uniformity of flow and agglomerate diameters. Typical backing materials include a particulate material, an elastomer, a rididized elastomer, slurry or liquid, or wire or slivers of metal.

Abstract: Both ceramic and intermetallic materials as a rule have a very small elongation at break of distinctly less than 0.3% and therefore a break behaviour with low damage tolerance. In order to increase the damage tolerance, it is important to increase the elongation at break to at least 0.3% or more. This can be achieved by introducing, for example, fibres consisting of carbon or ceramic or metal fibres into the matrix. It is important in this respect for the distribution of the fibres in the matrix to be homogeneous and/or defined. It is of advantage and therefore as a rule desirable for the fibres for reinforcing a material or component to be oriented in a defined direction which is adapted to the main stress.

  • Patent number: 7115223
Abstract: The present invention is a method of forming and heating a compressed composite wood product. The method includes introducing a mat assembly of resinated discrete wood elements into an oscillating compression press. Once the material is within the oscillating compression press, the compression/release oscillation is controlled to form the material. Specifically, the compression/release oscillation is controlled to heat the mat assembly to a to at least a cure temperature of the resin.

  • Patent number: 6994820
Abstract: The present invention is a method of forming a compressed product. The method includes introducing a material into a press that is oscillating between a compression phase and a release phase. The material has a compression recovery response time when compressed and released. The compressed product is formed by repeatedly compressing the material during the compression phase and releasing the material during the release phase.

  • Patent number: 6989116
Abstract: The present invention is a method of forming a compressed product. The method includes introducing a material into a press. The material has a flow direction through the press. The press is arranged to have at least one platen oscillating between a compression phase and a release phase. The at least one platen is configured to impart a compressive force onto the material during the compression phase such that the force is applied initially at an acute compression vector angle relative to the material flow direction. As a function of the angled compressive force, the material is transported a distance through the press and then released during the release phase.

  • Patent number: 6960011
Abstract: The invention relates to the setting of poured concrete and the need to avoid air pockets and voids within the setting slurry. At least one reinforcing rod, and preferably a grid of rods, is embedded in the poured concrete. The setting slurry is vibrated by vibrating the rod or grid. A vibrator receives the protruding end of the rod and is vibrated to vibrate the rod.

  • Patent number: 6886304
Abstract: The invention concerns a product and the relative manufacturing process, said product, including at least a precast support (2) of expanded material and at least a layer (3) of agglomerated stone material in form of granulates bound by a binding phase, over at least one surface of said expanded support (2). According to suitability, the product (1) is made by a sandwich structure with an intermediate layer of expanded material and two surface coatings of stone material. The product (1) can also have a complex or modular shape, from which it is possible to cut and eventually to work finished pieces of predetermined dimensions. The main advantage of the invention consists in obtaining a finished product (1, 10, 100) lighter than a product made of agglomerated stones homogeneous in the thickness.

Abstract: The invention relates to a simplified production process with which it is possible to obtain carbon blocks, in particular anodes intended for aluminium production using the Hall-Héroult electrolysis process, which have high thermal shock resistance. This process comprises a grain size distribution adjustment operation of a carbon aggregate which includes: a) separating an initial ungraded carbon aggregate AC into a first fraction F1 made up of grains whose sizes are smaller than X, and into a second fraction F2 made up of grains whose sizes are X or greater, X lying between 0.2 and 2 mm; b) crushing B1 the first fraction F1 and part P1 of the second fraction F2 such as to obtain a powder F comprising a controlled proportion of ultra-fine grains; c) mixing the remaining part P2 of fraction F2 and said powder F in proportions with which it is possible to obtain crude carbon blocks whose so-called “Gr/S” ratio between the proportion PGr of grains larger than 0.

Abstract: Cure and consolidation of a viscous thermoplastic resin, especially one that softens and melts at a high temperature, is improved by assisting autoclave pressurized momentum transport for compaction of the composite using high frequency, low amplitude acoustic vibration within the resin. The vibration induces shear thinning in the resin which promotes resin flow, achieves filling or collapse of voids, and assists consolidation of the composite preform.
