  • Patent number: 6576183
Abstract: A cutting apparatus comprises a machine bed support (1) having a quarter circle profile as seen from above and carrying a workpiece supporting platform (5). The workpiece may be a steel plate (6). The rear of the apparatus has an upstanding post (2) forming a vertical pivot to which is rigidly connected upper and lower arms (3) and (4) which may thus swing in a horizontal plane. A frame (7) is supported on the arms (3) and (4) by rollers R for free movement towards and away from the post (2). The lower limb of frame (7) carries the workpiece cutting device (16) and the upper limb of this frame caries a template following sensor device (8). The sensor device (8) is arranged to follow the required profile defined by a drawing or template on table (10) and this is effected by control of two drive motors using photo-electric template following means one motor driving a wheel (12) which frictionally engages the template and the other motor controlling the orientation of the wheel (12).

  • Patent number: 4653195
Abstract: A reusable template is disclosed herein for use in cutting pipe and other related applications in conjunction as a guide for an oxygen cutting torch. The template, as described in a preferred embodiment as a pipe template, has one or more contour ends so configured that after the branch pipe is cut it will fit flush against the external surface of a header pipe at the desired angle determined by the configuration of the contour end. The template is made of oxidation resistant material, with an alloy content sufficient to produce refractory oxides when heated by a flame, thus preventing the template from being cut by the oxygen cutting torch. The template is held in place over or on the workpiece or pipe by means well known in the art. The contour end or shape of the template is used as a guide for the nozzle of a standard oxygen cutting torch.

  • Patent number: 4618378
Abstract: A templet for cutting patterns in pipe with a torch includes a tube that is axially split into hemicylindrical segments. The segments are biased together in alignment with a coil spring. The segments are spread apart by squeezing attached handles together. A wide flat face transverse the tube wall at each tube end, defines a pattern. The flat face is formed by the tube wall and a coextensive flange. The tube covers and protects portions of the pipe to be retained and exposes the portion to be cut away. To make a cut, a flat-sided collar near the torch tip is positioned flush against the flat face. The flat face is angled to the tube wall so that a cutting axis of the torch will be oriented at a desired angle to a pipe telescoped within the tube.

  • Patent number: 4438600
Abstract: A semiautomatic weld grinding apparatus for grinding the surface of a weld seam interconnecting two perpendicularly disposed tubular sections. The grinding apparatus is capable of grinding off excess weld from a saddle-type nozzle to shell weldment that follows a circular path through a plurality of planes. Alternatively, the apparatus is adaptable to function as a welding or a cutting apparatus that follows the saddle-shaped path created at the interface of two perpendicularly disposed tubular sections.

  • Patent number: 4381854
Abstract: A flexible guide bar for a cutting torch and the like having magnetic means for engaging the piece to be cut and also having adjustable means for engaging metal pipe. Stiffeners may be utilized to assist the guide bar when used to guide the cut of flat stock and edge keepers may be utilized to assist a variation of the guide bar when it is used with flat stock.

  • Patent number: 4319933
Abstract: An accessory for facilitating the accurate cutting of holes with a cutting torch. A die is attached to the workpiece by legs and presents a die opening which controls the size and shape of the hole. A bridge piece fits against the die and maintains the cutting torch tip perpendicular to the surface of the workpiece as the torch is guided around the edge of the die opening to form the hole.

  • Patent number: 4137125
Abstract: A method of welding tabs projecting outwardly from grip straps in a fuel assembly grid to a control rod guide thimble positioned in a cell in the grid including providing a weld guide having openings therein which receive dimples on the strap when the weld guide is placed in a cell adjacent to the cell containing the control rod guide thimble. THe weld guide includes an opening which falls into alignment with a tab so that when a welding gun electrode is placed through the opening and into contact with a tab, the other electrode is automatically centered on its tab thus permitting accurate spot welding of the parts. To make a second spot weld on the same tab but at a point outwardly from the first spot weld, a second weld guide having an opening therein displaced a greater distance from a reference point on the weld guide, is placed in the same cell and the welding process repeated.
