Abstract: A sheet feeding apparatus for feeding a sheet includes a first lift tray configured to move up or down in a first lift range and to support a sheet; a sheet feeding unit configured to feed a sheet supported by the first lift tray; and a second lift tray configured to move up or down in a second lift range and to support a sheet in cooperation with the first lift tray. A lowest position in the second lift range is a position above a lowest position in the first lift range, and the second lift range is a range which is narrower than the first lift range.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing documents are provided. The apparatus includes a feeder for receiving a packet of a plurality of documents and separating the documents to serially feed the documents to a scanner. A retard adjacent the feeder is operable in first and second positions. In the first position the retard forms a nip with the feeder so that the retard is operable to impede the progress of one or more documents in the packet while the feeder feeds one of the documents in the packet. In the second position, the retard is spaced apart from the feeder to form a gap between the feeder and the retard. The system further includes a sensor for detecting a characteristic of the documents in a packet indicative of whether the number of documents in the packet exceeds a predetermined threshold. A drive mechanism automatically drives the retard pad between the first and second positions in response to the detected characteristic.

Abstract: A recording apparatus includes a placement unit on which sheets of paper are placed, a feeder that feeds a sheet, thrust mechanisms that push up the placement unit toward the feeder, and an edge guide. Each of the thrust mechanisms includes a coil spring that imparts an urging force to the placement unit, one case that is mounted on the placement unit and receives the coil spring from one end thereof and accommodates the coil spring, and another case that is disposed so as to partially overlap the one case and receives the coil spring from the other end thereof and accommodates the coil spring. The one case and the other case are configured to be movable relative to each other in the urging direction of the coil spring and to be rotatable together in the circumferential direction.
Abstract: A motor driving unit controls motor conducted current of a brushed DC motor on the basis of a motor control signal. A motor control unit provides the motor control signal to the motor driving unit and thereby controls the brushed DC motor. A brush noise detecting unit detects brush noises in conducted current of the brushed DC motor and outputs a brush noise detection signal. A speed determining unit determines a time interval of the brush noises and determines a rotation speed of the brushed DC motor on the basis of the time interval. Abstract: A driven gear is relatively movable to a first support position and to a second support position on a support member. When a first gear rotates in a first direction, the driven gear rotates at the first support position in conjunction with rotation of the first gear to permit the rotation of the driven gear. When the first gear rotates in a second direction opposite to the first direction, the driven gear moves to the second support position under a force received from the gear in an area where the driven gear meshes with the first gear. The abnormality detector may detect an abnormality in the sheet mover. Abstract: A removable media tray with an adjustable rear tray extension operable by a rear media restraint. The tray extension is slidably attached to a front section of the tray via a cam having a locking arm engaged in a J-slot. When in the curved portion of the J-slot the front section and tray extension are locked together. A rear media restraint slidably latching to a track in the bottom of the tray has a locking lobe that engages with a locking notch on the cam. As the media restraint is slid toward the rear, the locking lobe initially rotates the cam moving the locking arm to the straight section of the J-slot, then the locking lobe engages with the locking notch, locking the media restraint to the tray extension. Thereafter, the media restraint and tray extension move together until the end of the J-slot is reached by the locking arm.

The cover member is rotatably connected to an end of the tray main body on the side opposite to the sheet feeding side so that the cover member can move rotationally between a closed position where the cover member covers the first mount surface and an open position where the first mount surface is exposed, and has a second mount surface on which a sheet is mounted over the first mount surface when cover member is in the open position. Abstract: A sheet feeding cassette is capable of being mounted to and removed from an apparatus body along a specified mounting direction. The sheet accommodated within a sheet accommodating portion is conveyed through a sheet conveyance path in a sheet conveyance direction extending along the mounting direction. A sheet feeding roller is disposed at an inlet side of the sheet conveyance path so as to face the sheet accommodating portion. A retard roller is disposed so as to face the sheet feeding roller. The sheet feeding roller forms a sheet feeding nip between the sheet feeding roller and the retard roller. A lock mechanism locks drawing-out of the sheet feeding cassette from the apparatus body or releases the lock. A separator moves the retard roller away from the sheet feeding roller prior to or simultaneously with the lock being released by the lock mechanism.

A first locking piece is provided in the upper end of the outside cover, and a second locking piece is disposed below the first locking piece. Abstract: An apparatus for marking indicia on a plate blank where plate blanks are successively presented from a load magazine and moved to a printing station where the indicia is marked thereon and produce a finished plate. A drive transmission portion 200B is provided between a driving motor 227 that drives a conveying roller 250 provided in an apparatus body and a body-side lifting portion 200C that drives a lifter mechanism 200A of a sheet feeding cassette 201 mounted on the apparatus body. Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a main body including a printing unit for printing an image on a recording medium and a pickup roller for picking up the recording medium, a paper feeding device, which includes an elevatable knock-up plate on which recording media are stackable and a pressure member for elastically pressing the knock-up plate towards the pickup roller and is removably inserted into the main body, and a variable guide unit, which is supported by the main body, is fixed in a slope state to lower the knock-up plate in a direction against the pickup roller when the paper feeding device is withdrawn from the main body, and moves to maintain a contact state with the knock-up plate due to a rising state of the knock-up plate in a state in which the paper feeding device is inserted into the main body.

Abstract: A sheet feeding apparatus and an image forming apparatus capable of ensuring reliability of meshing of gears at low cost are provided. When a sheet feeding cassette is mounted to a printer body, a lifter gear provided to a lifter shaft of a lifter plate which lifts a sheet supporting plate is engaged with a first lifter idler gear, and the lifter gear is rotated by rotations of the first lifter idler gear by a drive of a lifter motor, and thereby the sheet supporting plate is lifted. And, displacement of the lifter gear is restricted by a load applied to the lifter gear by a restriction portion provided with an auxiliary support shaft which is provided to an opening portion formed in the lifter gear and the sheet feeding cassette to enter the opening portion when lifting the sheet supporting plate.

The tray includes a sheet holding surface configured to hold the sheet. Additionally, the image recording device includes a sheet feeder disposed between the recording unit and the tray. The sheet feeder includes a roller for feeding the sheet from the tray. The roller is configured to move between a first roller position in which the roller contacts the sheet holding surface of the tray and a second roller position in which the roller is separated from the sheet holding surface. A return guide, disposed between the recording unit and the sheet feeder, defines a second conveying path to guide the sheet having an image recorded on one side thereof back to the feed guide. The return guide has a first opening configured to accommodate the roller of the sheet feeder when the roller is in the second roller position.
Abstract: A disclosed paper supply unit includes a paper supply cassette having a bottom plate for placing stacked recording media therein and a sending out part. When the paper supply cassette is loaded at a paper supply position, the sending out part faces the bottom plate, the bottom plate is lifted and the recording media come into contact with the sending out part. A support member is rotatably fitted to the paper supply cassette. An elastic member is fastened between the support member and the bottom plate. The support member has plural fastening parts for fastening the elastic member. The elastic force of the elastic member is changeable using the plural fastening parts.
Abstract: A sheet feeding apparatus includes a sheet tray, a sheet feeding roller and a pair of link members. The sheet tray constitutes a loading surface. The sheet tray includes a tray main body and a lifting plate. The tray main body is openable and closable with respect to the wall portion. The lifting plate has a pair of first fulcrum portions disposed upstream of the sheet feeding roller. The downstream side of the lifting plate is rotationally movable up and down around the first fulcrum portions. The tray main body has a pair of second fulcrum portions . The second fulcrum portions are configured to be a pivot point for the opening and closing operation of the tray main body. Each of the pair of link members is coupled to the first fulcrum portion and to the wall portion.
