Abstract: A seal used with crimp-type couplings to provide a fluid tight joint has a ring that surrounds a point. The ring has a multiplicity of cross sections. Each cross section may have the same shape and area at every position along the entire length of the ring. Each cross section has a centroid. The ring is divided into portions. Each portion subtends an angle measured about the point. Each portion is characterized by the distance from the point to the centroids of the cross sections within the portion. Centroids of the cross sections in a first portion are positioned at the same distance from the point. Centroids of the cross sections in another portion are positioned at respective points different from the distance associated with the first portion. By offsetting the centroids leak paths are intentionally created before the joint is crimped to prevent false indications of a crimped joint.

  • Patent number: 8052155
Abstract: A seal (1) includes a first component (7) and second component (9), the first component including a first material having a high thermal and oxidation and wear resistance, and the second component (9) including a second material that is different from the first material and has a high spring load maintenance. The seal (1) is applied to a combustion chamber for a gas turbine, where the first component (7) extends between the casing wall of the combustion chamber and adjacent liner segments (4). The spring load of the second component (9) provides a seal also in the case of vibrations in a combustion chamber. The lifetime of the seal (1) is increased due to the individual materials, which are optimally chosen for the functions of high thermal and wear resistance and spring load maintenance respectively. The seal is further applied to the sealing between adjacent stationary blade platforms in gas turbines.

Abstract: A metallic seal design that reduces manufacturing costs by minimizing production steps and also lowers the sealing force by incorporating a thin-wall, high height/width ratio annular column. The seal has two horizontal ribs which constrain the thin-wall column from unstable buckling to thereby reduce or eliminate the tendency of the sealing dams to become inclined to sealing flange surfaces.

Abstract: An industrial automation input output module is protected against ingress of water, oil, debris, dirt and other contaminants without use of a potting compound. An elastomeric main seal provides a fluid-tight connection between inter-fitted inner and outer housing members that define a housing of the module. The one-piece main seal includes an integral light pipe portion with at least one light pipe that communicates light from an LED or other light source to a visual indicator opening in the housing, and the light pipe portion is also sealed to the housing to prevent ingress of contaminants through the visual indicator opening. Connectors pass through a wall of the housing and connector seals are used to prevent ingress of contaminants between the connectors and the housing. The connectors are also secured against rotation relative to the housing.

Abstract: General-purpose fluid-tight gasket which allows the coupling between pipes in a fluid-tight manner, and which can be used for a wide range of different diameters of pipes. It has an annular configuration of trapezoidal section in the base of which is a series of projections, as well as a triangular recess which narrows toward the interior of the gasket, it has an inclined side on which there are likewise some semicircular projections. Due to the configuration which the gasket has, the use thereof is possible for a wide range of different diameters of pipes, since different degrees of deformation of the gasket can be obtained with a given tightening torque based on a different travel of the tightening screw. The different deformations which the gasket adopts are those which adapt to the different diameters of pipes for which the gasket can be used.

Abstract: A pipe sealing gasket is shown which is designed to be received within a groove provided within the belled, socket end of a plastic pipe. The sealing gasket has a body formed of resilient material and has a retainer ring embedded therein which circumscribes the gasket body. The groove in the plastic pipe is preformed during the manufacture of the plastic pipe and the gasket is installed thereafter. The gasket nominal diameter exceeds the internal diameter of the belled pipe end. The retainer ring is placed within the body of the sealing gasket at a precisely determined location which most effectively retains the ring in position while withstanding the forces of the assembly of the pipe joint.
