Abstract: The pedal drive mechanism comprises a pedal arm immovably affixed across the secant of a drive gear, with the drive gear and attached pedal arm rotating through a partial revolution during operation. The drive gear meshes with a smaller pinion gear installed concentrically on the drive wheel axle. The pedal arm extends generally upwardly in its initial position prior to actuation of the mechanism, with operation requiring a rearward and downward kick or push. This is a natural motion for the operator of a scooter type vehicle, and the downward force also transfers a greater force to the drive wheel(s) for better traction during starting and operation. A return spring rotates the pedal arm, drive gear, and pinion gear back to their original starting positions when pressure is released on the pedal, with a one-way clutch disengaging the pinion gear from the drive wheel(s) during the pedal return stroke.

Abstract: This invention relates to a drive mechanism for a scooter or similar vehicle. A pair of opposed rotatable crank arms are mounted to a drive gear on the frame. Each crank arm is attached to a footboard that is itself rotatably mounted to the frame. The footboard is mounted further from the axis of the crank arms than the distance from the axis of the crank arms to the point at which they contact the footboards. Reciprocating downward pressure on each footboard drives rotation of the crank arms which in turn drive a wheel of the vehicle.

Abstract: A compact scooter supported by a pair of wheels is propelled by the cyclic operation of a pair of stabilized pedals by a standing user with hands on a handlebar. The elongate pedals having curved ends are connected to a crank and rocker link for predetermined pedal angles configured to maintain heel contact during the cyclic operation. The feet are positioned on pedal extensions with the heels of the feet rearward of the crank pivots to develop superior crank torque imposed upon the wheels for faster speed and better startup acceleration. Stunt features are provided to perform wheelies, rail grinding and step maneuvers.

Abstract: A self-propelled vehicle which can be driven by waist-twisting of human body is disclosed. The vehicle (shown in FIG. 1 and FIG. 11) is like a scooter, but it has a round footboard. Player stands on this round footboard with his two hands gripping the handlebar, and then twists his waist with his heels and toes tilting to force each point of circumference of the footboard to ground on the resisting board in turn. The player's strength of waist-twisting causes circular motion. The circular motion is transmitted to the two driven wheels by the bevel gears to the horizontal axle then drives the driven wheels. In this way, the player's waist-twisting causes the vehicle runs.

Abstract: A kinetic energy generating mechanism includes a driving part, a transmission part, and a driven part. The driving part includes front and rear rollers separately mounted on a vehicle, and an actuating belt wound around the front and rear rollers. The transmission part is a transmission gear mounted to an end of the rear roller to rotate along with the same. The driven part is a driven gear mounted on a rear axle of the vehicle and meshing with the transmission gear, or may include front and rear driven gears wound around by a chain to mesh with the transmission part and mount on the rear axle of the vehicle, respectively. When a user walks or runs on the actuating belt, the latter rotates the front and the rear roller counterclockwise, and the driven part meshed with the transmission part is rotated clockwise to move the vehicle forward.

Abstract: A three-wheeled device (10) for pedal-powered riding, wherein the device (10) provides a substantial but not excessive riding challenge. The preferred device (10) broadly comprises three wheels (12); two shafts (14); and two pedals (16). The wheels (12) are oriented parallel to one another so as to rotate about a common axis. Each shaft extends between and couples (14) two of the wheels (12) in an offset manner. Bearings (26) may be provided to facilitate movement of the shafts relative to the wheels (12) by reducing friction therebetween. Each pedal (16) is coupled with a different one of the shafts (14). For added safety, the pedals (16) may include non-slip contact surfaces (30) and light reflectors (32). In use, a rider stands on the pedals (16) and applies force thereto, with the force being transferred via the shafts (14) to the wheels (12) which are thereby caused to roll.

Abstract: An upright step cycle comprises a two wheeled bicycle, with two non-aligned foot support members (10) attached eccentrically to each crank arm (12) at one end, and at the other end, free to slide up and down along a straight guide track (16), producing an elliptical pedalling profile. A means by which to vary the guide track inclination angle, in order to produce a wide range of pedalling motion profiles. At lower inclination angles of the guide track, the stepping motion may resemble cross country skiing. At higher angles, the stepping motion may simulate walking, jogging, running or climbing. The guide track angle may be varied manually by the rider as the bicycle is in motion, therefore dismounting from the vehicle is not required. A system of gears (28 and 29) similar to those found on a standard bicycle, provide speed to power drive ratio adjustability to the driving wheel (21). A removable seat or leaning pad may also be included in the design.
