Publication number: 20100090440Abstract: This invention provides a stabilizing system and method for two-wheeled vehicles that affords the rider no restriction on the full range of movements (banks, leans, etc.) common to bicycles, but that provides greater stability during turns and other maneuvers so that an unintentional bank or tilt (potentially causing a fall) is less likely, even at relatively slow speeds and startup. A rotating mass of predetermined mass-value and radial mass-distribution is provided coaxially with the front axle. The mass is supported on bearings so as to freewheel with respect to the rotation of the front wheel. As such it can be induced to spin significantly faster than the front wheel thereby generating a gyroscopic effect at the front wheel about the axle. This gyroscopic effect influences the steering of the wheel by the rider. Due to precession, the wheel tends to follow any excessive bank by the vehicle, ensuring that the rider can “steer-out-of” an unintended tilt or bank.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 5, 2009Publication date: April 15, 2010Applicant: THE GYROBIKE, INC.Inventors: Daniella Reichstetter, Sascha M. Patent number: 7641212Abstract: A bicycle frame includes an axle, a hub and freewheel assembly, two fork end members, two axle pegs, and two locking nuts. Thus, the first ramp of each of the axle pegs is rested on the second ramp of the respective fork end member to prevent each of the axle pegs from being rotatable relative to the respective fork end member, so that the first end of each of the axle pegs is clamped exactly between the respective fork end member and the respective locking nut to prevent each of the axle pegs from being rotatable freely on the axle to ensure the safety of a user who treads the axle pegs.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 2007Date of Patent: January 5, 2010Inventors: Wu-Hsiung Liao, Mei-Ling Chen

Patent number: 7641213Abstract: A training wheel assembly for a bicycle includes an upright support bracket mounted on a frame, a first pivot arm pivotally mounted on the support bracket, a training wheel rotatably mounted on the first pivot arm, a second pivot arm pivotally mounted on the support bracket, and an adjusting mechanism mounted between the first pivot arm and the second pivot arm to adjust a movable allowance or relative position between the first pivot arm and the second pivot arm. Thus, each of the training wheels is movable upward to leave the ground or downward to contact the ground so that the user needs not to remove the training wheels from the frame of the bicycle when not in used, thereby facilitating the user operating the training wheel assembly.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 2007Date of Patent: January 5, 2010Assignees: Shohu Mao Industrial Co., Ltd., Far East UniverityInventor: Yu-Gang Chen

Patent number: 7631885Abstract: A motorcycle including a frame, an engine mounted to the frame, and a stand movable between an extended position in which the stand supports the motorcycle and a retracted position. The motorcycle includes a sensor operable to generate a stand signal indicative of at least one of the extended and retracted positions of the side stand and a controller electrically coupled to the sensor to receive the stand signal. The controller is programmed for preventing operation of the engine based on the stand signal during a first operating condition of the motorcycle and is further programmed to allow running of the engine during a second operating condition of the motorcycle, regardless of the stand signal.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2007Date of Patent: December 15, 2009Assignee: Harley-Davidson Motor Company Group, LLCInventors: David Safarik, Ben Hodge, Frank Molinaro

Patent number: 7621550Abstract: The invention is a detachable kickstand support with mounting bracket that includes a kickstand support plate and mounting bracket. The mounting bracket includes a base plate, a front clamp, a rear clamp, retaining block, and corresponding fasteners. The mounting bracket is capable of attaching itself to any frame of any motorcycle or bicycle. The front and rear clamp have a rubber lining that prevents the finish of the frame from being scratch or marred. The kickstand support plate has a channel that enables it to be used with most styles of kickstands. The kickstand support plate is secured to the mounting bracket via the retaining block, which utilizes a spring-loaded ball bearing that interacts with a dimple on the kickstand support plate as the securing means.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 2008Date of Patent: November 24, 2009Inventors: Andrew Wayne Boruff, Michael Atkisson

Patent number: 7607693Abstract: An apparatus for attaching to a bicycle, the apparatus comprising a support frame including a rearward portion and a pair of spaced members extending forwardly for receiving the rear wheel and for attachment to the rear wheel axle of the bicycle. A pair of angled brace members are each attached at one end to the support frame and extend forwardly and upwardly for attachment to the bicycle frame. A rear member is attached at one end to the support frame. An elongated platform is rigidly attached to the rearward end of the rear member such that the platform extends transversely of the longitudinal axis of the bicycle frame. A wheel assembly is attached to the platform. The wheel assembly is out of engagement with a surface upon which the bicycle is located when the front and rear wheels are in contact with the surface. The wheel assembly engages the surface at a point rearward of the bicycle upon rearward rotation of the bicycle by raising the front wheel of the bicycle from the surface.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2006Date of Patent: October 27, 2009Inventor: Randy Chavis
