  • Publication number: 20140367930
Abstract: A suspension system for a vehicle having a vehicle body and a road wheel includes a suspension corner connecting the road wheel to the vehicle body. The suspension corner maintains contact between the road wheel and a road surface. The suspension system includes a bladder arranged at the suspension corner for pumping a fluid in response to forces generated at the wheel and holding a volume of the fluid. The suspension system also includes a reservoir in fluid communication with the bladder for selectively accumulating the fluid pumped by and releasing the fluid to the bladder. The suspension system additionally includes a valve for selectively retaining the accumulated fluid in and releasing thereof from the reservoir. The height of the bladder varies in response to the volume of fluid being held by the bladder to set a ride height of the vehicle at the suspension corner.

These two or more actuators are each operatively arranged between a suspended structure and a wheeled base of the land vehicle for relative positioning one another. A common supply of pressurized fluid has a given pressure and a selectively operable pump with an inlet and an outlet, for increasing the given pressure of the common supply of pressurized fluid. A fluid reservoir is in selective fluid communication with the inlet of the pump. Controllable valve means are interposed between each of the two or more actuators and the common supply of pressurized fluid for selectively bringing each of the two or more actuators into fluid communication with the common supply of pressurized fluid in response to a control unit for controlling the valve means and the pump.

  • Patent number: 8668215
Abstract: A vehicle drive arrangement for a vehicle of the type having differential power transmission arrangement that converts the rotatory motion of the rotatory power shaft to rotatory motion of first and second drive shafts disposed substantially orthogonal the rotatory power shaft. Primary leaf springs are each coupled at their respective centers to respective drive shafts by pivotal arrangements. The first and second primary springs may include helical springs that are used in place of, or in combination with, the primary leaf springs. Secondary leaf springs may be splayed and therefore need not be arranged parallel to the primary leaf springs. Control over vehicle kinematics is enhanced by configuring the resilience of a fulcrum bumper using resilient, rheological, or active systems. An active system will control vehicle height while stationary to facilitate loading and unloading of the vehicle.

Abstract: An air spring that can be used in an air suspension system includes a hollow piston, a hollow shaft and a body. The hollow piston has a hole through it. The hollow shaft has a shaft interior volume in communication with the hole in the piston. The body has a body interior volume in communication with the hole in the hollow piston. The hole in the hollow piston in communication with the shaft interior volume and the body interior volume provides a total interior volume. Wherein, the total interior volume is greater than the body interior volume thereby providing a linearized spring rate.

Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein provide a modular apparatus and system for automatically raising and lowering the deck height of a towed trailer. The embodiment is comprised of a trailer frame to which a drop axle is attached via a dynamic height adjustable means, such as electrically operated air springs. The drop axle may have two or more wheels mounted to opposite ends of the drop axle and attached to the trailer frame via the dynamic height adjustable means. Thus allowing the dynamic height adjustable means to raise and lower the trailer frame above and below the centerline of the wheels, which aids loading and unloading of cargo onto the trailer.
