Trailer Patents (Class 280/656)
  • Patent number: 11738815
Abstract: A trailer includes a trailer frame having a hitch. A stationary support base is joined to the trailer frame. Two supports are slidably guided on the support base toward and away from each other. A wheel assembly is mounted to an end of each of the supports remote from the other support such that a distance between the wheel assemblies varies with movement of the supports on the support base. A locking device selectively locks each support to the support base in a first position where the wheel assemblies are furthest from each other and a second position where the wheel assemblies are closer to each other.

  • Patent number: 10981446
Abstract: This invention provides an adjustable bracket that can be used to attach auxiliary fuel tanks and other tanks to the bottom of a trailer or vehicle. The adjustable nature of the bracket allows it to be used on a variety of trailers, with different widths. The adjustable bracket comprises two parts with one sliding inside of the other. Each part has several slots that can be lined to create a bracket that is the ideal length to span the distance between the side panels of a trailer or vehicle. The bracket has holes in the bottom through which the bracket can be attached to a mounting retainer or strap that holds the tank in place.

  • Patent number: 10942271
Abstract: The angle of a trailer with respect to a tow vehicle is an important parameter to the stability of the vehicle and trailer. A tow vehicle pulling a trailer in a straight line is generally more stable than when the vehicle is turning. While turning, the angle between the tow vehicle and the trailer is not a straight line but is another angle depending on how sharply the tow vehicle is turning. To safely operate a vehicle towing a trailer, for a given steering input and speed, there is a maximum angle between the tow vehicle and trailer whereby exceeding the angle causes instability and may cause the trailer or tow vehicle to roll over or jackknife. Accordingly, the angle between the trailer and tow vehicle must be determined to ensure the vehicle and trailer will continue to be in control.

  • Patent number: 10759321
Abstract: Method and apparatus for an extendable logging trailer constructed of left and right main I-beam members having left and right male telescoping beams moving on rollers on the bottom inner flange of the main I-beam members. The male telescoping beams allow the trailer to be retractable or extendable so that it can assist in offloading the logs/pipes from the logging trailer. In operation, a front bolster and push rack are moved in unison by a first hydraulic cylinder toward the rear of the trailer at the same time as a rear bolster is moved by a second hydraulic cylinder toward the front of the trailer thereby causing the length of the trailer to shorten.

  • Patent number: 9738464
Abstract: In order to protect the side walls of a container during loading, in one design, a hopper has one or more barrier wall pairs attached to the hopper walls at the end adjacent to a container. As the hopper is moved forward the barrier walls of the barrier wall pair become closely adjacent to the walls of the container protecting them from damage and helping enable material to be pushed into the container. In a variation, an assembly of barrier wall pairs is set inside a hopper and material is deposited between the barrier walls of the barrier wall pair and then the assembly is moved forward into the container, the material being pushed along with the barrier wall pair into the container. In another variation, the barrier walls may be hinged to the hopper walls. More than one barrier wall pair can be used. Where there are two pairs, the second pair can be hinged to the first so that the second pair can be extended or rotated into a storage position.

  • Patent number: 8700284
Abstract: A towed vehicle is towed by a towing vehicle. The towed vehicle includes a motor/generator for both regenerative braking and for powering wheels. A tow member connects the towed vehicle to the towed vehicle. A sensor measures or infers the tension and compression in the tow member. A computer communicates with the sensor and with the motor/generator. The computer commands the motor/generator to either utilize regenerative braking or provide assistance in propulsion of the towed vehicle based upon the tension and compression forces in the tow member.

  • Patent number: 8696012
Abstract: A collapsible vehicle trailer consisting of a frame/cargo surface and a draw mounted to the frame/cargo surface by a hinge connection in such a manner that the draw may be folded down and pushed in underneath the frame/cargo surface, and that to the frame and/or cargo surface a hinged wheel suspension is arranged consisting of wheels, hub and spring so that the wheel with suspension may be rotated to become flush with the cargo surface, and that between wheel suspensions one or more shafts being articulated at the centre and at each side towards the wheels are disposed. One or more bars are arranged between the hinged draw and the center part/section of the shaft, whereby the bar(s), when the draw is folded backwards in underneath the cargo surface, pushes the centre part/section of shaft backwards, whereby the wheels and wheel suspensions are rotated in underneath and flush with the frame/cargo surface.

  • Patent number: 8684412
Abstract: A Collapsible Trailer. The trailer is lightweight, but durable, and includes a set of detachable deck segments that can be assembled into a deck. The trailer further includes a suspension assembly that attaches to the deck once the deck is assembled or, alternatively, is permanently attached to one deck segment. Intra-deck segment support is provided by slidable rods that are extendable to bridge between a pair of adjacent segments. Each deck segment has a male edge to be inserted into a female edge to create an exceedingly strong, interlocking hinge-like structure. The deck and trailer can be assembled without the need for any tools. The deck segments, when disassembled, are stackable into a condensed deck stack. A foldable suspension facilitates the stackable storage and transportation of the trailer. The trailer is convertible into a cargo platform that can be attached directly to a conventional trailer hitch receiver on a vehicle.
