Abstract: A self-indexing television program guide and advertising medium with printing on both surfaces of a sheet with the sheet provided with precreased foldlines in predetermined locations with a laterally extending first foldline located a small distance about the page center to leave a laterally extending third indexing strip at the lower edge of the back surface of the sheet when folded about the first line, a third program printed on the back surface for each day of the week, second and third aligned foldlines located above the center of the lower edge of the sheet when folded above the first line leaving a second indexing strip with a second program containing weekday, Saturday and Sunday features, and a third program on the exposed surface of the sheet when folded above all of the foldlines containing programs of specials, sports and movies with the programs interrelated so that a user moves from said first to said second to said third program for progressively detailed program information and advertising inf
Abstract: A publication consists of a folded cover sheet within which is assembled an insert of printed pages. The cover sheet is appropriately printed to provide a front cover page when folded and an integrated poster on its normally concealed side when unfolded, and the insert pages are dimensioned and configured for convenient and protected disposition therewithin.
Abstract: A paper foldable map which includes a cover, a map portion, paper reinforcing and a present location indicator with the marker. The cover is a single combined body which includes a front cover side and a back cover side. The paper reinforcing is of an appropriate width and is provided transversely along a center line of the map. The map portion itself is folded in a specific way. First, with the paper reinforcer as the center line and with an appropriate number of cuts made in the upper and lower portions of the map portion, the map portion is folded towards the paper reinforcer by following the steps of inward folding and outward folding with an equal width one after another. Then, the map portion is further folded from its right and left sides opened. An appropriate portion of the back side of the folded map portion is bonded to one side of the cover. The present location indicator provided with the marker fits over both sides of the cover in a manner to be freely slidable in the vertical direction.
Abstract: A folding board used as a backing for pamphlets, maps and graphic and printed material consists of four or more sections. Three sections are hinged together along the lengths of abutting edges; the fourth is hinged to one section along the length of an edge abutting one other section, but disconnected along the length of another such edge except by a fourth hinge. The sections are folded flat against each other along three hinges. The fourth hinge has its axis above the place of two sections to permit flat folding of all sections. Various types of hinges are disclosed. How more than four rectangular sections may be hinged together is disclosed. Illumination means for the board and compass to be used with a map on the board are shown and described. Various scales for locating the coordinates for a map may be used. One such scale is hinged; another is telescopic.
Abstract: A method for plotting and disseminating information on the paths of violent storms, which can be used to accurately and quickly describe the affected region in a manner easily comprehended by the residents of the region. A map is provided with a grid system consisting of intersecting, generally vertical and horizontal columns and rows, dividing the area into subregions. Each row and each column has an identifying designation, and each subregion of the map has a distinct designation including the designations for the row and the column in which it is located. A weather bulletin for an area includes reference to the designations for the subregion involved.
Abstract: Folded map booklets showing street and street names fit into pockets in the cover of a map holder. The holder may be folded into compactform. In open position, individual sections of the folded map may be selectively exposed. Along the top edge of the holder is a horizontal scale; slidable along the horizontal scale is a vertical scale. Means is provided to pivot the vertical scale out of the way when the holder is to be folded. An index is provided showing for each street the precise horizontal and vertical scale readings where the name of the street is printed on the map.
Abstract: This invention provides an improved map having the advantages of a book while at the same time providing a simple index system, and pages which are folded to provide a larger format than that normally found in a book. The folded pages are arranged so they cannot be readily damaged by incorrect folding and yet the pages can be inter-related imperfectly without damage and without affecting the index arrangement.
Abstract: An equal-area homolinear composite world map having parallels of latitude parallel to the equator. The map combines an equatorial map section and polar map sections. The equatorial map section is the equatorial portion of a fusiform equal-area world map and the polar sections are the polar portions of a flat-polar equal-area world map. The fusiform and flat-polar maps are prepared according to mapping equations which are the same except that the latter are adjusted to provide flat poles.
Abstract: The map of this invention is permanently folded and attached to the cover which is folded along a front hinge and a rear hinge. A cover flap is attached to the rear hinge. The map is folded laterally so that is comprises a bottom strip and a lateral strip which are attached to the cover, a lateral pleat therebetween which can be flipped upwardly or downwardly, and a top lateral flap which can be flipped downwardly upon the lateral pleat or upwardly. The map is further folded longitudinally and alternately along seven longitudinal fold lines to provide three longitudinal leaves between the outer sections which are attached to the cover. The central leaf is adhesively secured together along the bottom strip and the lateral strip. The three leaves are slit along their outwardly folded fold lines, except along the bottom strip and the lateral strip thereof. The central leaf can be pulled outwardly to create a centerfold that is pivotable to the right or to the left.
Abstract: A tidal time indicator for determining tide times at various locations on a specific stretch of coastline comprises a pair of complementary charts. One of the charts is in the form of a map having index marks representing the various locations and which marks are spaced apart at distances corresponding to the known tidal time differences between the particular locations. The other chart is in the form of a rule having a time scale and index marks representing different days, each of these index marks being positioned relative to the time scale at the high or low tide time on the particular day for a reference location on the map chart. Thus, by positioning the rule chart relative to the map chart so as to register a date mark with an index mark on the map chart representing the reference location, the tide times at the other map locations can be read directly off the time scale adjacent their respective index marks on the map. To prepare the charts, information is obtained from Tide Tables.

Abstract: A street address locating aid includes two printed paper discs. Street addresses and cross streets are printed in concentric circles on both sides of each disc. A printed paper carrier having first and second essentially parallel sheets is mounted on opposite sides of the two discs. Each of the two sheets of the carrier include "street address" and "location near" apertures through which a particular street address and the corresponding cross street are exposed. By rotating the discs, different street addresses can be selected and the cross street near that address is displayed. The two discs are mounted so that they are partially overlapping within the carrier but so that neither disc obstructs the view of the street address and location near apertures associated with the other disc.
Abstract: Presenting a plurality of characteristics by presenting each characteristic using a symbol which per se identifies the characteristic by three concurrent visual impressions (quantity, tone, and extent) and is adaptable for use with any desired grey or tone scale.
Abstract: A map is segmented into columns and rows, and pairs of segments are lamind back to back in a particular manner: the segments of each column serially, and the columns serially. A marginal flap is provided at the top of each segment, wider than the segment and with a slot in it as well as the segment. A ring passes through the slots to hold the segments together, and to permit the viewing of two segments which are adjacent in the map.
