Abstract: A pipe may include a pipe body having an axis, an axial bore and a pipe body outer diameter. A male end may be formed on the pipe body. The male end can have an outer diameter consistent with the pipe body outer diameter, and an axial end face. A female end may be formed as an integral bell on the pipe body opposite the male end. The female end may have an inner diameter that is larger than the outer diameter of the male end, a seal recess on an interior thereof, and an interior feature in the interior of the female end that is complementary to the axial end face of the male end. The female end of a first pipe may be configured to receive the male end of a second pipe, such that the interior feature of the first pipe engages and restrains the axial end face of the second pipe. A coupling may be used to join two of the pipes.

Abstract: An integral hose anti-collapse rib comprises a unitary body having a first cantilevered portion curved in a first direction. This first cantilevered portion defines a first end. A second cantilevered portion is curved in a direction opposite the direction of the first cantilevered portion, in a direction facing the first cantilevered portion. The second cantilevered portion also defines a second end disposed at an opposite extent of the rib from the first end. The hose anti-collapse rib also comprises a locking mechanism that locks the first end of the rib to the second end of the rib, such that the first and second cantilevered portions together form a generally circular shape. Embodiments of locking mechanisms may include a button and orifice locking mechanism and/or a tab and channel locking mechanism. In a relaxed state in which the locking mechanism is not engaged, the rib preferably defines a non-circular, generally spiral shape.

The flanges are joined by bolts, which slightly compress the collar. The collar has a blind slot, which opens into the closed cavity and which separates an upper collar portion from a lower collar portion. The pressurized gas in the closed cavity urges the upper collar portion against the upper flange and urges the lower collar portion against the lower flange. The collar has an inner pair of "O" rings and an outer pair of "O" rings. Upper and lower chambers are disposed between the "O" rings. A passageway to the chambers has an exterior opening for evacuating the chambers for testing the integrity of the seals prior to launch.

  • Patent number: 4772050
Abstract: A zero-leak cryogenic coupling includes a polymeric seal clamped to a male bayonet member with two pairs of tightening rings. The tightening rings threadably engage each other in respective pairs around tapered ends of the inflatable seal member so that a wedging action tightens the seal member about the male bayonet. Once in place, the seal may be inflated via an inflation port so that its expansion provides a pressure contact with the inside surface of a coaxial female member.

  • Patent number: 4685704
Abstract: The invention relates to a cuff for sealing joints of pipes, adhering inside at the two ends of pipes by a plurality of annular ribs formed in one piece with the rest of the cuff, made of elastic material and which is being pressed outwardly by expanding collars on its inner side in the region of the annular ribs. The invention is to be seen therein that in the unloaded state the profile of the annular ribs (1) forms in cross-section two curvatures (1a, 1b) towards the pipe wall. Thus it is achieved that the cuff retains its required position after it has been inserted into the pipe ends and being pressed slightly against the wall ends. Furthermore, a good sealing effect is being achieved by the new configuration of the annular ribs.

Abstract: A liquid chromatographic analytical column includes an end cap that is abutted with an end edge of a holder body when the analytical column is fully inserted into a bore in the holder body. An end cap mounted to a precolumn is compressed between the end cap of the analytical column and an end nut connected to a holder union. The holder union has a central passage that admits the precolumn therethrough and a stop that engages a ferrule placed around the precolumn to compress the ferrule against the analytical column end cap to form a seal.

  • Patent number: 4602809
Abstract: A separable electrical isolator for coupling two pieces of conductive tubing carrying high pressure cryogenic gas includes a gas-impervious dielectric spacer with a bore in which the pieces of tubing are sealed axially-aligned in fluid communication with an electrically-nonconductive gap between them. A pair of complementary coupling members are rigidly attached to the pieces of tubing to define outwardly-extending annular flanges that are each sealed about the periphery of a corresponding one of the pieces in a position slightly set back from an end of the piece. Each flange has an annular rib protruding from it toward the end of the piece. The coupling members are separably and nonconductively interconnected with the annular ribs applying compressive force to the spacer to thereby effect the seal.

  • Patent number: 4557625
Abstract: The sealing assembly includes a relatively soft rubber, tubular sleeve having an axial length sufficient to span the joint between hollow members, such as the corbel joint between a manhole frame and a manhole casing, and a sealing portion in each of the opposite ends. The outer surface of each sealing portion is compressed radially outwardly in sealing engagement with the interior walls of the manhole frame and the manhole casing by a generally circular hoop which fits into a groove provided in the inside surface of the sleeve. Each hoop has circumferentially movable, end portions and a radially inwardly extending bracket mounted on each end portion at circumferentially spaced locations. These brackets are adjustably pulled toward each other, to increase the circumference of the hoop, by tightening a nut threaded onto the outer end of a bolt connecting the brackets together.

The seal is formed by a continuous elastomeric ring. The ring is held in place by two stainless steel retaining bands. The elastomeric ring is pleated to allow an upward movement or lateral movement of the casting without impairing the sealing ability of the ring. The gasket can be installed either during construction or at any time after construction that there is found to be a problem with infiltration.

The packer is carried upon a collar presented by a member coupled into the tubing, and axial compression of the packer flattens the corrugations, expanding the rings radially so that such tightly fit with the inner wall of the casing by either penetrating it or being distorted against the inner wall, and at the same time the axial compression makes a tight fit between the inner edges of the rings and the collar on which they are supported. The packer may include a stack of corrugated rings alternately positioned with rings of harder and softer materials, and occasional robust rings may add stability.
