Gaskets Patents (Class 285/910)
  • Patent number: 4641858
Abstract: A gasket for the tight coupling of pipes having an outer face adapted to cooperate with the cylindrical bearing surface of the female end of a pipe, a succession of annular ribs each taking, in cross section, the form of an asymmetrical tooth, two annular housings opening via slots in the inner face and adapted to receive two rigid annular cores, and two mouldings of prismatic cross section and inclined towards the edge of engagement of said gasket in the female end. The invention is more particularly applicable to underground pipes for the circulation of sewage.

  • Patent number: 4630850
Abstract: A pipe joint suitable for connection with a flexible tubular member includes a joint body, a sleeve and a cap nut. The cap nut is threadably fitted over one end portion of the joint body defining a tapering axial bore communicating with a cylindrical axial bore and having a shoulder at its axial inner end. The sleeve split axially into a plurality of segments at a cutout has a flange at its axial outer end, and at least one ridge of a currugation extending from its inner surface into engagement with one of grooves of a corrugated outer surface of the flexible tubular member. To assemble, the sleeve is fitted over the outer surface of the flexible tubular member in such a manner that one to five ridges of the corrugated outer surface of the flexible tubular member extend axially inwardly of an axial inner end of the sleeve, and the flexible tubular member is inserted in the tapering axial bore while the sleeve is held between the cap nut threadably fitted over the joint body and the flexible tubular member.

  • Patent number: 4616855
Abstract: A threadless nonrotating steel coupling system that is quickly connected and disconnected in an axial manner by simple hand tools, is sealed by a compressible gasket, and is locked together by a pin system to prevent rotation of the male half-coupling relative to the female half-coupling. The coupling is held together by means of matching circular saw-toothed ridges and grooves at right angles to the axis of the coupling, which substitute for the pitched threads used in standard threaded coupling systems. The steel male half-coupling is rigid whereas the steel female half-coupling, which contains a series of spring-loaded and parallel longitudinal fingers, is flexible, since each steel finger is free to move in a radial direction with respect to the axis of the coupling system.

  • Patent number: 4616857
Abstract: A seal for sealing between two mating faces that are curved. The seal includes a groove formed in one of the faces for encircling a passageway that terminates at the face. The groove has a depth that varies along the diameter of the groove with the curvature of the face. The base or bottom of the groove is located in a single plane. An elastomeric seal ring is located in the groove. The seal ring also has a variable cross-sectional thickness that varies around the diameter of the ring corresponding to the depth of the groove. The seal ring has an annular band that fits within a counterbore in the groove to retain the seal ring.

  • Patent number: 4614371
Abstract: A ring for the leak-proof and traction-resistant joining of the ends of two pipes which surround one another at a radial distance, made of a basic body of soft-elastic, resilient material having cylindrical contact surfaces engaging the pipes, and of a cone ring of unyielding material embedded therein, which is defined radially inwardly and outwardly by cone surfaces, in which cone ring the cone surfaces are inclined in the same direction and are at a distance from the surface of the oppositely-lying or confronting pipe which diminishes increasingly with increasing distance from its end.

  • Patent number: 4613171
Abstract: What is disclosed is a novel unitary locking gasket for use with a junction coupling to obtain a leak-proof mechanical pipe connector. Also disclosed is the use of the gasket to provide a junction in a main conduit. The gasket is designed to allow full rubber gasketing between the pipe and a metal spigot of the gasket.

  • Patent number: 4603893
Abstract: A pipe coupling joint including a pair of rubber packings, with one each being installed onto the outer circumferential surface of one of two pipe segments at the area near the leading end thereof set in alignment and closely opposed relationship with each other, a middle ring of cylindrical shape disposed closely in the middle position between the pair of rubber packings, and a pair of clamp rings. The two pipe segments are joined with each other by having the pair of rubber packings secured and urged in an operative position of engagement between the clamping face of the middle ring and the pair of clamp rings, wherein each of the rubber packings is defined with the top corner at the outer circumference thereof cut away at an oblique angle with respect to its mating surface with the middle ring, and wherein there is formed a step formation which rises at a substantial angle with respect to the inclined clamping face of the middle ring.

  • Patent number: 4601476
Abstract: A heat cured exhaust seal, adapted to be interposed between a pair of confronting pipes in sealing relationship therewith, is formed of wire mesh having openings between the wires thereof and a mixture of metallic fibers, non-metallic filler, a thermally stable lubricant and resin binder, which mixture surrounds the wires and substantially fills the openings in the mesh and forms the seal. The method of forming the seal includes placing a preform of wire mesh into a die cavity, forming a powder mixture of metallic fibers, non-metallic filler, a thermally stable lubricant and a resin binder, placing the powder mixture into the die cavity, pressing the wire mesh and powder mixture to the final size and shape of the seal and curing the seal at an elevated temperature.

  • Patent number: 4593939
Abstract: The invention is directed to an arrangement for interconnecting a first pality of conduits with a second plurality of conduits such as conduits of the kind utilized in nuclear facilities. Maintenance work in large-area hot cells subjected to radioactivity is conducted with remotely-controlled apparatus that is movable within the hot cell. The conduits must be disconnected and connected again with remotely-controlled apparatus. The connection should be completed quickly and effectively. For this purpose, conduit end portions of the conduits which are to be connected are arranged on a fixed supporting bracket. The two sets of conduit end portions which are to be interconnected curve continuously away from the bracket to define an angle of ninety degrees so that the open terminations of the one set of conduits are spaced from the open terminations of the other set of conduits and the axes of the conduit end portions are mutually parallel.

  • Patent number: 4589690
Abstract: A sealing structure to couple an irrigation valve through a rectangular opening in the side of a pipe includes a rectangular conduit portion and a rectangular gasket of elastomeric material. The gasket has a side wall which is wider than the other walls and flange portions which extend outwardly against the inner and outer surfaces of the pipe around the rectangular opening. The conduit includes a laterally extending flange which, upon assembly, encompasses the wider wall. Compression of the wider wall permits insertion of the other side of the conduit through the central opening in the gasket, forming a watertight seal with the rectangular opening.
