  • Patent number: 7409756
Abstract: A system for locating and determining the orientation of fasteners in hard disk drive spindle assemblies utilizes a sensor system that facilitates an automated rework process for the spindle assemblies. The screw locating system identifies the locations of the screws in a spindle and generates a signal for a screw driver system to align tool bits with the screws. The sensor is highly advantageous when reworking spindle motors with opaque labels that cover and/or block the fasteners. The present invention overcomes the drawbacks of prior art techniques by using a screw locating system that is based on a selected capacitance probe without requiring the use of timing features.

  • Patent number: 6321433
Abstract: A prewinder mandrel including an elongate shaft having a threaded lead end, a slot dividing the lead end into first and second end portions, and a pair of opposing beveled edges on the first end portion. A first drive edge is located between the first and second beveled edges, a second drive edge is located on an outer edge of the second end portion, and an inclined ramp extends along the second end portion from the leading edge towards the slot. The mandrel may part of a prewinder tool for installing helical wire inserts that includes a drive mechanism coupled to the mandrel shaft and a threaded nozzle through which the shaft extends. The shaft includes a threaded intermediate region for engaging the threaded nozzle to drive the mandrel at a predetermined pitch. The lead end is inserted into a wire insert, the shaft rotated to advance the insert over the lead end until the tang engages a first beveled edge and is seated within the slot.

Abstract: A sharps cup for receiving and storing a plurality of needles against accidental dislodgement, includes a plastic cup defining a bottom, a top, a sidewall connecting the bottom and the top, and a vertically extending central post disposed within and horizontally spaced from the sidewall. A resilient disc is disposed within the cup and defines a plurality of slots and segments, the segments being intermediate the slots, and each segment having a free end spaced from the post. A plastic cover for the cup defines a plurality of needle-receiving passageways therethrough adjacent the post and communicating with spaces between the post and the segment free ends. • Patent number: 6226851
Abstract: When a seal (10) with a lip (10A) is slid onto a shaft (14), the seal (10) is first slid from a D-cut portion (14C) to the end of a shaft body (14B) contiguous to the D-cut portion (14C), and then is slid at a first speed (at 40 mm/s) from this end to a position in which the seal (10) does not come into contact with a large-diameter portion (14A) of the shaft (14). Since there is a strong possibility that the lip (10A) of the seal (10) will have been completely curled at this time. the seal (10) is pulled out at a second speed (at 10 mm/s) on the shaft body (14B) from this position toward the D-cut portion (14C), and the seal (10) is again slid inward at a third speed (at 70 mmls) from this position to an appropriate position. Thus, the seal (10) is slid without the lip (10A) being curled. The sliding operations at the second and third speeds may be performed a plurality of times.

  • Patent number: 6190997
Abstract: To avoid damage to carrier substrates in a device for mechanically aligning carrier substrates for electronic circuits, the carrier substrates having two main surfaces and a peripheral surface and being supplied to a horizontal fixture of the device, centering elements being forced to engage on the peripheral surface of the carrier substrates to align the carrier substrates in the horizontal fixture, it is proposed that at least two centering elements be mounted rotationally and displaceably in the axial direction on at least two first shafts that are oriented in parallel with one another and in parallel with the horizontal fixture. The centering elements engage on sections of the peripheral surface of the carrier substrate disposed opposite one another in a first direction, and at least two further centering elements engage with stop faces at sections of the peripheral surface of the carrier substrate disposed opposite one another in a second direction running perpendicularly to the first direction.

  • Patent number: 6088910
Abstract: An apparatus and method for preloading roller bearings which rotatably support a pinion shaft in a differential gear assembly includes a drive mechanism which selectively engages and rotatably drives the yoke of the differential gear assembly in a counterclockwise direction as viewed from the pinion shaft threaded end. A dead shaft engages the pinion shaft nut and rotates therewith. A brake is coupled to and selectively restrains or allows the dead shaft to rotate with the nut. Preventing the dead shaft and nut from rotating causes the nut to be threadingly received onto the pinion shaft and load the bearings. Disengaging the brake and allowing free rotation of the dead shaft and nut allows sensing of the bearing preload condition within the differential gear assembly housing.

Abstract: Disclosed is a locking wrench and tarpaulin replacement method for a truck with a tarpaulin assembly having a spring-biased tarpaulin roller rotatably mounted on a roller shaft and a tarpaulin attached to the roller. The locking wrench comprises a handle portion, a roller-shaft-engaging portion, and an outwardly-projecting stem for engaging a hole provided in the side of the roller when the roller-shaft-engaging portion engages the roller shaft. When the wrench is secured to the roller and the handle portion is released, the bias of the roller causes the roller and the wrench to rotate back until the handle portion comes to rest against part of the tarpaulin assembly or part of the truck, thereby preventing further rotation of the roller and allowing an operator to replace the tarpaulin.

  • Patent number: 6052892
Abstract: An adaptor tool for mounting components on printed circuit boards. The adaptor tool has two capture members that define an opening sized to receive the component. The capture members are linked together such that the application of torque to the adaptor tool by a torque tool via a connector results in the two capture members frictionally engaging the component and transferring the torque to the component. This allows the component to be mounted to the printed circuit board to a desired degree of torque. The adaptor tool can be sized so as to be able to mount a cylindrical heat sink to a bracket on a printed circuit board to a desired degree of torque.
