  • Patent number: 5355572
Abstract: A thin-walled valve guide insert for lining and relining a valve guide of an internal combustion engine includes opposing ends each having a tapered insertion section thereon. The tapered insertion section defines a reduced outer diameter to facilitate installing the insert into a valve guide bore have a nonchamfered opening, and further defines a reduced inner diameter so that the insert has a substantially continuous wall thickness throughout its length and thus maintains the structural integrity of the insert from end to end. In the preferred embodiment, the valve guide insert is made of a phosphor bronze material of about 0.018 inch thickness or less, and includes a lengthwise slit therein. The insert is sprung open longitudinally along the slit and must be radially compressed so that the insert defines a sufficiently small outer diameter so that it can be axially installed in a press-fit condition into the valve guide bore of the engine.

Abstract: A tool for removing the axle shaft from a wheel hub includes a ram and guide assembly that makes the job quick, easy, and safe. Two threaded adaptors connect the guide brace to the wheel's lug studs. A sliding ram, guided by the brace, transmits the blow of a sledge hammer squarely against the center of the axle shaft. The solid impact releases the force that tightly binds the axle shaft to the wheel's lug studs. The ram is made of a relatively soft mild steel to prevent damage to the axle shaft.

  • Patent number: 5251368
Abstract: This invention relates to an internal locking puller device which comprises three pivotally mounted jaws, a cam ring which engageably slides along the jaws for camming together and apart the jaws for locking about bushings, bearings, seals, and the like, a disk-like collar to which the jaws are pivotally mounted, a T handle for adjustably controlling the movement of the cam ring, a slide rod, and a slide hammer slidably and reciprocally mounted on said slide rod for providing impacting force to remove the bushings, bearings, seals, and the like. The jaws have arcuate rearward portions with a pair of arcuate rails integrally extending from and along under edges thereof. The rails conform to the configuration of the arcurate rearward portions of the jaws so as to provide uniform locking strength across the jaws to virtually eliminate slippage of the jaws from internally about bushings, bearings, seals, and the like.

  • Patent number: 5201104
Abstract: A tool (1) for extracting expansion sleeves (2) of expansion anchor assembles includes an axially extending tubular shaft with a conical external thread (1b) at its leading end to be inserted into a borehole (9) in a structural member (3). The external thread tapers inwardly to the leading end. At its trailing end the shaft (1a) has a force applying member or members. The shaft (1a) has a central axially extending through hole (1d) for laterally enclosing an anchor bolt (4). After the expansion sleeve is relieved of expanding force by hammering the anchor bolt (4) into the borehole, the external thread (1b) on the extracting tool (1) is screwed into a gap between the anchor bolt (4) and the expansion sleeve (2). External thread (1b) cuts into the inner wall (2b) of the expansion sleeve (2) as the extracting tool is screwed in and, as a result, forms a positively locked connection with the expansion sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5181303
Abstract: A device for dislodging an object, for example a cap that is close fit over the top of a pipe, in which a handle and a grip, each formed to be held by the respective hands of a user, are interconnected with a weight member and an impact member, such as a pair of tongs. Slide bars fixed to the weight member are disposed through one end of the grip and connected to the handle. A shank is slidably disposed through the weight, connected to the grip on one side of the weight and to the tongs on the other side of the weight. The tongs include a plurality of pivotally connected links and are formed with elongate arms terminating distally with jaws formed to impact against a horizontally disposed surface of the cap. The tongs tend to close when freely suspended from the shank so as to slip over the cap on a pipe, contacting it from below the cap. Lifting of the handle impacts the weight against the grip to transmit a hammering force to the jaws, dislodging the cap.

  • Patent number: 5090102
Abstract: A tool for removing a Diesel Injector Sleeve from a Diesel engine head is built of a split, threaded expander section within which is mounted at plunger having an angled end. The plunger extends to form a handle upon which slides a weighted hammer section. The tool is inserted into the neck of an injector tube. A downward blow with the hammer drives the expander over the plunger, expanding the threads into the sidewall of the tube and creating a positive connection with the injector tube. An upward blow then pulls the plunger into the expander, maintaining a positive connection and imparting an upward force that draws the entire tube out of the head. The expander preferably has a screw thread so that the injector tube may be removed from the tool by twisting it off the expander. The tool will engage and pull an injector tube with only a partial thread engagement.

  • Patent number: 4707900
Abstract: A cylinder liner sleeve puller has four legs having flanged feet at their bottom and being connected by four pivotably mounted pivot arms. The arms are pivotably connected to a central hub, which arrangement forces the lower ends of the legs outward when the hub is manually moved downward. In operation, the legs are inserted into the cylinder so that their bottom extremities are below the lower end of the liner sleeve. The hub is then pressed downward, forcing the lower ends of the legs outward until the flanged feet are directly below the liner sleeve. A jack support plate having spaced holes for the legs is then passed over the legs and rests on the engine block. A hydraulic jack is placed on the support plate, and a top plate is fastened to the top of the legs. When the jack is activated, the plunger pushes the top plate upward, causing a corresponding upward movement of the legs, thereby removing the liner sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4044444
Abstract: An extractor for pulling individual tubes from a tube sheet in a heat exchanger. The extractor includes two pairs of drivers mounted in a housing on parallel rotatable shafts. The two drivers in each pair have inclined teeth which project into opposite sides of a passageway along which a tube is drawn. A variable speed pneumatic motor and a gear transmission rotate the four drivers at the same controlled speed and rotate the two drivers in each pair in opposite directions to advance a tube through the passageway.

  • Patent number: 4034594
Abstract: A variable impact jarring tool comprising a handled shaft with a massive impact sleeve slideable thereon. A self-tapping screw on the end of the shaft is driven to grip the workpiece and a first collar adjacent the handle serves as an anvil against which the sleeve impacts. A second collar may be fixed on the shaft in either of two positions, one adjacent the end for a full impact stroke and the other midway thereof for a limited stroke, but providing more clearance at the end for placement of the screw in close places.

  • Patent number: 3977805
Abstract: Apparatus for use in reconditioning engines by reworking or replacing the valve guides and seats thereof, which obviates any need for meticulously positioning a toolholder individually for each valve location. A toolholder bar has one end cross-bored to receive tool-guiding bushings, and the bar has a diametral slot extending axially along a major portion of its length, in alignment with the cross-bore. A pair of V-blocks with clamps is positioned on the head or block being reconditioned and the toolholder bar is positioned in the V-blocks, the arrangement being such that the axis of the bar is aligned with a row of valve locations. Alignment is facilitated by the use of a pair of aligning pins which pass through the slot in the bar after insertion in selected valve guides. When the V-blocks are now secured to the work piece, either of the aligning pins may be removed, and the bar may be slid axially until its crossbore is aligned with the first valve location, where it is clamped.
