Abstract: The pipe coupler tool has a tool body with first and second ends and a tool body central axis. A first primary bore section is coaxial with the central axis and extends into the tool body from the first end. A second primary bore section is coaxial with the central axis and extends into the tool body from the second end. A secondary bore is coaxial with the central axis, extends axially from the first to the second primary sections and has a secondary bore diameter that is larger than the diameter of the first and second primary bore sections. First and second coupler end walls are provided at each end of the secondary bore section. A slot extending the length of the tool has sections with minimum widths that are slightly less than the diameter of the bore sections to which they are connected.

  • Patent number: 6701595
Abstract: A clamp for an inline connector having a male and a female component comprises a first sleeve having a peripheral portion defining an opening for receiving and holding the male or female component. A second sleeve is provided adjacent the first sleeve and has an opening therein which is adjacent the opening in the first sleeve. A handle having a first end is pivotally connected to the first sleeve for rotation about the pivotal connection. A bracket is pivotally connected to the second sleeve member at one end thereof and pivotally connected to the handle at another end thereof. Rotation of the handle about its pivotal connection to the first sleeve moves the first sleeve and the second sleeve relative to each other between a first position where the first sleeve and the second sleeve are closer to each other and a second position where the first sleeve and the second sleeve are further apart from each other.

  • Patent number: 6694586
Abstract: The invention relates to press tools for the connection, by cold forming, of tubular workpieces (2, 3) whose connection regions are provided with circular external cross-sectional shapes and are pushed one into the other. The press jaws (10) of the press tool have, in the closed state, approximately the external cross-sectional shape of the workpieces and can be provided with recesses (13, 17). Such a press tool may also have only two press jaws (10) and one bearing bolt (4). As a result of drive forces (F) introduced into the tool, cold-forming forces are exerted on the workpieces (2, 3) via said tool. Depending on manufacturing tolerances of the workpieces (2, 3), the distance (A) between the press jaws (10) varies.

  • Patent number: 6584662
Abstract: A tool for extracting a glow plug includes an externally threaded shaft, an internally threaded sleeve that engages the externally threaded shaft, and a fixed cavity formed in one end of the externally threaded shaft. The cavity has a side entry to permit the insertion of the glow plug into the cavity in a direction normal to the shaft, and a pair of opposing shoulders integrally formed in opposing sidewalls of the cavity to engage the glow plug. The sleeve threads down the shaft until it contacts the engine block. Rotating the sleeve exerts a pulling force on the shaft, which is transferred to the inserted glow plug by the opposing shoulders in the cavity. This pulls both the shaft and the inserted glow plug away from the engine block.

Abstract: A glo-plug extractor is disclosed. An internally threaded sleeve is threaded over an externally threaded bolt having a bolt head at one end and a set of jaws at the other. The jaws are fitted to lock onto the head of a fully unscrewed, yet bound glo-plug. After the jaws are locked onto the glo-plug, the sleeve is braced against the engine head either by screwing the sleeve down over the jaws until it contacts the engine head or by placing some bracing apparatus such as a spacer or a set of legs between the sleeve and the engine head. Once the sleeve is braced, it must be locked in place using a locking apparatus such as vice grips or a wrench. The bolt head is then used to rotate the bolt relative to the sleeve. This rotation causes the sleeve to exert a pulling force on the bound glo-plug which either extracts the glo-plug whole or breaks it.

A jacking screw is threaded into each of the internally threaded passages so that the distance between each end of the body and a pipe section which that end confronts can be determined by rotating one of the jacking screws. A tie plate is bolted to the carriage and is provided with elongated holes for receiving studs which pass through preexisting holes in the flange of one of the pipe sections. Different tie plates are provided to accommodate different pipe diameters, flanges, etc., each of which tie plates can be mounted on the carriage by means of bolts and associated tapped holes.

Abstract: Apparatus for centering and axial and parallel alignment a pair of rotatable shafts. An alignment collar assembly is adapted to fit over and around the periphery of a flanged end of a shaft or an adapter on the shaft. The alignment collar has mating halves for easy assembly and disassembly and has roller means adapted to engage both the periphery and the underside of the flanged end to permit a 360.degree. rotation of the alignment collar assembly relative to the shaft. The alignment collar assembly is also adapted to support one or more gages for determining the axial and parallel position of the pair of rotatable shafts relative to each other.

  • Patent number: 5118024
Abstract: A remote pipe fitting tool for adjustably positioning the ends of relatively small pipes while being tack welded. The tool includes clamps engaging adjacent pipe ends with each of the clamps including laterally extending arms which are interconnected at their outer ends by a plurality of spaced turnbuckles with a pair of outermost turnbuckles and an inner turnbuckle adjusting various relationships between the pipe ends. Each of the arms includes means to longitudinally adjust the length thereof to move the adjacent pipe ends transversely in relation to each other. Also, each arm includes a jack bolt and pivot structure enabling the clamps and thus the pipe ends to be angularly adjusted. The remote pipe tool enables adjacent pipe ends to be joined to be universally adjusted in relation to each other in an accurate, positive, quick and easy manner thereby greatly facilitating the positioning of pipe ends when being joined by welding.

  • Patent number: 5083363
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of installing a grommet within an opening in a wall of composite material. An opening (10) is formed in a wall of composite material (12). A countersink (20) is formed at one end of the opening (10). A grommet (22) is placed into the opening (10). A split sleeve (28) is placed on the small diameter portion (30) of a mandrel (32) which is attached to a power puller (36). The mandrel (32) with the split sleeve (28) is placed through the opening (10) and a grommet (22). The power puller (36) is then operated to pull the mandrel (32) back through the opening (10) and the grommet (22) thereby expanding the split sleeve (28) which in turn provides for the radial expansion of the grommet (22). During the radial expansion of the grommet (22), ends of fibers (16) are forced into the surface of the grommet (24 ). After the mandrel (32) has been pulled all the way through the split sleeve (28) both it and the split sleeve (28) are removed from the grommet (22).

  • Patent number: 5063652
Abstract: An apparatus is adapted for enabling a worker to install a top beam "C" clamp on a roof or ceiling beam, or to remove a previously installed clamp, without having to climb up to the level of the beam. The apparatus includes a structure for supporting the clamp and for positioning the clamp in an installation position on the beam or other suitable member. A socket assembly is associated with the clamp supporting structure and is adapted to drive either the clamp bolt or the nut received on the bolt when the clamp is properly supported on the clamp supporting structure. A driving assembly is connected to the socket assembly to enable the operator of the apparatus to rotate or drive the sockets to rotate either the clamp bolt or the nut received on the bolt. The socket assembly is adapted to be positioned through the driving assembly in either a bolt driving position or a nut driving position in which the bolt and nut, respectively, are properly engaged for driving.
