Abstract: An alignment device is located on a mandrel of an installation tool and is used to align a structural member in an opening of a workpiece while seating a radial flange of the structural member against a first surface of the workpiece. The alignment device comprises a disk-shaped device having an outer surface, an inner surface forming an opening through the alignment device, and where the opening is sized to be at least slightly smaller than a major diameter of an expansion portion of the mandrel. In one embodiment, the alignment is nylon to allow the inner surface of the alignment device to be repeatedly, radially expanded and yet the opening formed by the inner surface returns to its original size.

Abstract: There are disclosed methods of and apparatus for interconnecting lined metal pipes (110, 120), applying in particular to the offshore oil and gas industry. Corrosion is a common problem in the industry. Lining pipes overcomes the problem, but welding sections of pipe together can be a complicated and time-consuming task, requiring dedicated and sophisticated tooling. More desirable is the ability to use conventional pipe-laying equipment (20, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90) with little additional tooling. As such, there are disclosed methods and apparatus compatible with known offshore connection methods, particularly where the spacing of joints on the pipe is less than 100 m. The chosen technique will not significantly impact the laying rate of the lined pipe, compared with unlined pipe.

In curling the edges of the side portions, a buckling preventing die restrains an outer periphery of the drop portion of the cylindrical body. Because the buckling preventing die receives the axial compression force of the curling dies, it can prevent the cylindrical body from buckling and deforming. • Patent number: 7328602
Abstract: Disclosed is a pipe expanding device for expanding a thin pipe with a small diameter using elasticity and compressing and bending characteristics of a spring. Steel wires whose opposite contact sections are processed with a slope to be engaged in parallel so that contact length of both ends thereof are extended are bent and wound to form a ring spring having a single circumference with its body being partially cut off. This ring spring is used as a mold so as to expand an outer diameter of a pipe as much as a circumferential length of both ends that are widened rather than a normal circumferential diameter due to elasticity of the spring while the ring spring presses the pipe. This pipe expanding device employing the ring spring is simple and economical and allows even an unskilled person to use it easily.

  • Patent number: 7225523
Abstract: An expandable tubing assembly comprises a tubular connector defining overlapping longitudinal slots, the connector comprising end portions and an intermediate portion. The slots extend over the whole length of the connector, but the only slot overlap occurs in the intermediate portion. The assembly further comprises lengths of expandable tubing defining overlapping longitudinal slots and having end portions defining nodes between and beyond the ends of the tubing slots. Tubing threads are formed on the end most tubing nodes. The connector end portions define threads and are coupled with the threads formed on the nodes of the respective end portions of the tubing lengths.
