  • Patent number: 8701282
Abstract: A sensor utilizing a non-leachable or diffusible redox mediator is described. The sensor includes a sample chamber to hold a sample in electrolytic contact with a working electrode, and in at least some instances, the sensor also contains a non-leachable or a diffusible second electron transfer agent. The sensor and/or the methods used produce a sensor signal in response to the analyte that can be distinguished from a background signal caused by the mediator. The invention can be used to determine the concentration of a biomolecule, such as glucose or lactate, in a biological fluid, such as blood or serum, using techniques such as coulometry, amperometry; and potentiometry. An enzyme capable of catalyzing the electrooxidation or electroreduction of the biomolecule is typically provided as a second electron transfer agent.

  • Patent number: 8637771
Abstract: The disclosed invention describes a motor/generator coil produced using rectangular electric current conductors of any thickness and width. A unique joint between the up and down segments of the coil turn enables an improved conductor packing ratio and geometrical orientation that minimizes the effect of eddy currents. The resulting coil produces higher power than typical wire wound motors but is lighter weight and physically smaller in size. In addition, the coil can be free-standing, and is capable of slotless and/or ironless core device configuration.

Abstract: A connector cover may be used to protect a connector from exposure to environmental contaminants and physical abuse. In some examples, the connector cover includes a housing defining an opening that is configured to receive a connector positioned on the end of a transmission line. The housing may contain a complementary connector for mating with the transmission line connector. The connector cover may also include first and second doors positioned to cover different portions of the opening. In use, the doors may bias together when the connector is not inserted into the housing so as to keep the opening closed. Upon inserting the connector into the opening, the connector cover doors may move apart in response to the connector physically contacting the doors. This may allow a user to insert the connector into the connector cover without using their hands to touch the doors, which may transfer contaminants.

  • Patent number: 8631562
Abstract: An electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection circuit for protecting a protected circuit is coupled to an input pad. The ESD circuit includes a nanotube switch electrically having a control. The switch is coupled to the protected circuit and to a discharge path. The nanotube switch is controllable, in response to electrical stimulation of the control, between a de-activated state and an activated state. The activated state creates a current path so that a signal on the input pad flows to the discharge path to cause the signal at the input pad to remain within a predefined operable range for the protected circuit. The nanotube switch, the input pad, and the protected circuit may be on a semiconductor chip. The nanotube switch may be on a chip carrier. The deactivated and activated states may be volatile or non-volatile depending on the embodiment.

Abstract: A power supply device includes a battery block that includes battery cells, and fasteners that securely hold the battery block. Each of the cells includes an exterior container, a wound electrode, a sealing plate, and a connector. The container has a rectangular exterior shape, and opens on one face. The electrode includes electrode and separator sheets that are wound so that the electrode and separator sheets are alternately superposed on each other. The sealing plate closes the opening of the container. The connector is fastened to the sealing plate and electrically connected to the electrode. The electrode has a thickness smaller than the opening width of the container. The electrode is suspended by connectors so that the electrode is spaced away from the bottom of the container. The fastener securely holds the battery block so that the electrodes are interposed between the interior surfaces of the containers.

Abstract: An insulator for a coaxial connector is disclosed. The insulator is adapted to connect to a coaxial transmission medium to form an electrically conductive path between the transmission medium and the coaxial connector. The insulator is constructed of dielectric material. A laser-cut pattern in the insulator produces voids in the dielectric material such that air is incorporated into the insulator. The insulator has a composite tangent delta and a composite dielectric constant based on a combination of the dielectric material and the air and maintains dielectric properties to insulate and separate components of the coaxial connector.

Abstract: A testing device for wafer level testing of IC circuits is disclosed. An upper and lower pin (22, 62) are configured to slide relatively to each other and are held in electrically biased contact by an elastomer (80). The elastomer is precompressed from its natural rest state between a top (22) plate and a bottom (70). Pre compression improves the resilient response of the pins. The pin crows (40) are maintained relatively coplanar by the engagement of at least one flang (44a-b) against an up-stop surface 90 of plate 20, thereby insuring coplanarity of the crowns. The pin guide (12) is maintained in alignment with the retainer 14 by establishing a registration corner (506) and driving the guide into the corner by elastomers in at least one diagonally opposite corner.
